Congrats on getting started and don't give up. Most of us took a while ton complete our armor the first time. I took 4.5 months on my MTK. At least 100 hours including the helmet build. Other than the Demel, I didn't see any other tools used in your build. Do you have a pair of hobby shears? You can find them at most RC shops. People use them to trim the plastic bodies on RC cars. Will make short work of curved trimming like return edges around the tops of the thighs. Don't give up and it's normal to feel discouraged. The thought has crossed many of our minds, thrust me. I kept thinking I will never get past the trimming and sanding but when you hit the home stretch, things start to come together pretty quickly.

Awesome way engaging with some of our youngest fans!

Spacebrew's ANH Stunt Build (MTK)
toybiz replied to spacebrew's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Congrats Chad and looking great! MTK has come much further than when I bought mine! -
On my older throat mic, it WILL NOT pick up any sound on the sides of my neck. The pick up is practically near the front of my neck. Just below the Adam's Apple. After reading this thread today, I put mine back on and tried it on the sides, 2/3rds of the way forward and finally pretty much at the front to confirm my findings. The sound output with the mic directly plugged into my Aker was loudest as it moved forward. Something to note, my older version only has a single transponder. Looks like everyone else here has the dual. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. But then again, not sure how to troubleshoot if defective. I have someone in my garrison (Ukswath) is having similar results with his. He is plugging his into his ROM/FX which has a built-in amp and not having much success. I am hoping to meet up with him to try his in my set up. This way we could eliminate the possibility of a defect. Has anyone else here having difficulties have someone else try on your mic? This would eliminate if it is a physiological cause. Please report your findings.

Here is a post from Hyperfirm for a B grade one that he sold. It should give you an idea of what comes up in the For Sale area. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/30661-fs-hyperfirm-dlt-19-b-grade/

I know even with the older version of your throat mics, I had to play with the position on my neck. If you notice in my video, the transducer is almost to the front of my neck. When on the side as it would seem it needs to go, it wouldn't pick up even connected only to the Acker. Now that I am aware of the sweet spot, I simply place it directly there. Everyone's anatomy is slightly different and my recommendation is to play with placement. More left, more right, higher or lower. Keep the findings coming.

------------ This guy had on rigged on his blaster at Celebration.

Tip on protecting the TD clips from scratching the back plate. I used a strip of the fuzzy side of some white velcro to protect the plastic on mine. Share some fitment pics when you get a chance! I was just going to suggest the shortening of the shoulder bell straps and rotating them forward. You are on the right track.

Spacebrew's ANH Stunt Build (MTK)

You can do it! I'm sure you can find snaps at a fabric store or Walmart. -
Congrats and welcome to the ranks! Any plans to attend Celebration 7?

Spacebrew's ANH Stunt Build (MTK)
toybiz replied to spacebrew's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Great progress and awesome another MTK! My only opinion and this wouldn't affect your general approval, but is there room to taper the bottom of your thigh armor at the knees? This would improve the overall appearance and avoid having "bell" shaped knees. If you used zap a gap, this may be too difficult to modify. -
Congrats and looking forward to your approval. Shouldn't be a problem IMO. Great to see another MTK build.

Nice..almost there.

Looking great...appears very sturdy. Clean details. One question. How flexible or rigid are the straps?

I have the icomm. Other than choosing PTT or VOX there are NO other adjustments available. I too sent it back in for the new firmware update and it came back with the ability "lock" the squelch sound effect to a single tone of the available 5 (I believe there are 5) even after powering it down and the volume level of the sound effects were lowered about 20%. I'm pleased with the overall simplicity of the unit but that comes at the cost of lack of flexibility.

Thank you Scott for sharing! Great to see more troopers finding benefits switching over to a throat mic setup! I was originally told by a seller here that a throat mic wouldn't work with their amp, it didn't make sense to me from an electronics perspective. So after experimenting with about 4 different acustic mics and not being happy with the results, I figured what do I have to loose and plug in a throat mic. The rest is history and here we are...

You know I'm always looking Tony...looks like most of what I need to prototype my EAS is finally here. I will document and post my findings shortly. Hopefully this goes as planned. Combo headset and mic? Stealthy stuff is expensive but I personally would look towards a gaming headset and cannibalize the raw conponents...(hint hint..)

Military mic wiring conversion question?
toybiz replied to Quadan's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Brand or any close up of the pin out connection? Please provide diameter of the male pins. Basically one of those pins will be the mic and the other earphone. They look like 1/8" mono which are common extension patch cords. Look at Radio Shack or www.monoprice.com -
TK-77477 Requsting ESB EIB Status(TK Armor)[449]
toybiz replied to Veeds's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Hi Sean and congratulations on receiving your TK ID and working your way to EIB! I'm sure Steve will provide his input here soon, but please keep in mind that we all want each other to look our best and don't consider any recommendations as criticism. We all put in hours and hours of hard work into our armor and should be proud of what we done. Good luck and don't feel that any recommendations are meant to discourage you but to look your best and represent the world's preferred Star Wars costuming group! -
Almost Off Topic: Socks for Trooping
toybiz replied to FNGmacaroni's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Black Dickies work socks here. Extra padding on the heel and under the ball of the foot. Trooper boots aren't the most comfortable for my feet.
