Is 3D scanning wrong?
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to GandalfTheImperial's topic in Recasting Discussion
Yeah, there's so much cleanup work that needs to be done that it's really only good for basic reference. By the time you clean it up (re-topolgize it) it's practically something else. -
Nice work Andy. I can't wait to see this finish out.

First Order Stormtrooper for 3D print
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to DeafJamb's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Interesting. Are you planning on printing it full size? If only we could borrow Tony Stark's 3D printer. -
ROGUE ONE TRAILER - IMPERIAL STORMTROOPERS!
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to Redforce's topic in Off Topic
These suits look like they were made to be rugged. Much more expansion areas built in. If I got blowed up in my Anovos kit I'd be laying next to the crater naked. See those TK's running? That scene would look so different in Anovos kits. Parts flinging off. Blood squirting out. Troopers limping and tripping. Gotta hand it to these guys. They made armor you can move in and it still looks damn good. Can't wait to see this movie. -
Sorry to hear that Alan. I hope things get back to normal for you soon. Take it easy.

How to repair cuts in armor?
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to SupRsloth's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I've had good luck fixing these cuts with a small sealing iron. They are used for applying monocote covering on RC airplanes. You could probably use a regular sized iron if you are careful. The good thing about a cut like this is that all the plastic is still there. An iron and a little bit of pressure will heat the plastic and push it back in on itself. I'd practice on a piece of scrap first. Good luck. -

Mark, please report to reconditioning. We must not have any creative independent thinking. -
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing this Alan.

Would someone kindly assist with photobucket images?
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to humperdingle's topic in Forum Help & Support
Lol, we literally did that at the same time. Now if only photobucket would cooperate. -

copy the direct link from photobucket then click on the little picture icon above your post. Its green and blue with a little orange dot like a sun on a landscape. You will be presented with a pop up window with a text field titled URL. Copy your link there and hit ok. Bingo! Picture in post. Good luck. -
Suspenders out of fashion?
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to Stutz's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I use suspenders too. If you attach everything correctly you won't get overlap or flapping. For me it keeps everything in place and takes the strain off of the armor. When you are trooping for 5+ hours at a time it helps keep things comfortable. Also you can leave that other accurate accessory at home (gaffers tape). All my parts are attached together with heavy duty elastic and industrial Velcro. Then attached to rugged construction suspenders. It keeps everything in its place extremely well. Custom Tailored to me. I've been trooping in it for years with hardly a repair or an adjustment. I bet back in the day when they we're filming they never knew who was going to be wearing the armor. Then it only had to stay together a few shots at a time. Assistants with gaffers tape standing at the ready. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

[ANH] ANOVOS build time!
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to DapperTrooper's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Just curious, did you get your under suit and gloves with your anovos kit? Seems like a lot of us are missing those items. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
One thing to keep in mind, the more fans you install the more noise. It helps to engineer insulated mounts out of rubber or foam to keep the vibration off the surface of the bucket. One of the best things I've seen to increase air flow in a helmet is to install the eye lens so it stands off the helmet internally and provides air flow through the eyes. You absolutely can't tell it's there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Cool find at Radio Shack.
TK8776 jgarrettg replied to Darth Ramsey's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Thought I would post an update on my experience with this kit. It is awesome! I pretty much set it up like Darth Ramsey with a different set of head phones. Mine came from a motor cycle helmet kit. It really helps being able to hear your surroundings while you have your bucket on. The kit was pretty simple to assemble. I highly recommend it. Thanks Darth Ramsey for sharing. Have you guys seen these yet? They are rumored to be the Episode VII stormtrooper helmets. If they aren't, someone put a lot of work into them. They are pretty darn cool.
