Star Wars Battlefront (DICE) Shock Trooper
Dark CMF replied to mikedwelle94's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I can't promise anything before we get wrapped up in the TFA madness, because I'm in armor finishing mode, but I'll see what screen grabs I can get when I play next as well. Very exciting times around here indeed! -
Indeed. LoL

If you're on the XBox One, you can also get a 30 second video clip or a screen shot, using the Xbox button.

Personally, I used the "Dritz" ones that you get at Walmart or Fabric stores for my first TK build. Since then, I have used Tandy snaps in a more recent TK build and will be using them when I strap up my FO TK within the next week. I highly recommend the Tandy ones as they set a little bit easier and more consistently in my experience, and they are much stronger than the Dritz - even though those work fine too.

When it comes to the games, it seems to be the characters/costumes that are revered as Canon - unless it is a story driven game. Battlefront is not a story given game. Really it is only the Battle of Jakku that is a Canon event, and obviously, even that is not going to be a concrete event, as either side can win it during gameplay, but with the movie references, it will be very clear as to the outcome in the Canon. As for the appearance of characters in costumes that don't quite jive with the environments, I think that is all just part of the game design choice, to ensure that the "Hero" characters are visible and identifiable on the battlefield. Believe me, if Luke came running out into the battle on Hoth wearing his Hoth gear, you'd never be able to find him unless he lit up the saber. Luke always appears in his ROTJ Throne Room attire, Han always appears as if he's just arrived at Cloud City. I believe it is just for consistency to aid the game players that it is done that way. The game is a lot of fun though.

Hmmm... a little help please
Dark CMF replied to Live Wire's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
The chest and back plates in the AM 1.0 kit were simply not accurate enough representations of the TK to be awarded Centurion. Joseph (as I remember it) contacted AM and purchased new pieces of AM 2.0 which have been upgraded by the maker to be accurate enough for Centurion approval. -
Well, there was some debate going on about Battlefront itself being Canon. LFL has said that the games are Canon. Historically, only characters that are not customizable in the game are Canon - Starkiller, Juno Eclipse, Karth Onassi, Darth Kreia, for example, as opposed to the characters that you play as in The Old Republic. Regardless of any other part of Battlefront though I fully feel that the Shock and Sullust Troopers will be Canon costumes (The HWT is), the Battle of Jakku has been specified as a part of Canon that will be a major influence in events in the universe moving forward even though it may not be seen on screen, it is alleged to be referenced on screen quite strongly.

When you mess something up, you won't ruin your kit. I say that, because almost every build thread I've read has an "oops" moment in it somewhere. Unless you manage to somehow remove WAY too much plastic, or glue something really, really badly using CA glue so it cannot be undone, nothing you do to these kits cannot be repaired with a little bit of work. In my blaster build, I attached the bayonet lug upside down. I had to cut it in half with a Dremel and reattach the top of it properly. In my TK build, I attached the shin hooks to the wrong side of the shin, and had to rip them out literally twenty minutes before leaving for my first event in armor. During my First Order TK build, I've managed to glue the replacement chest piece in upside down, using Devcon glue. I had to take a Diamond Cutting Wheel for the Dremel and cut it out of the chest so I could re-do it. I'm allegedly appreciated as a good builder, and these are things that I've done wrong. All of them simple things that happened because I got careless, or rushed, or simply didn't pay attention for mere seconds while building. All three of them have been corrected without incident. It happens. With your first build, use E6000 and you'll have the ability to undo any mistake with very little difficulty at all. Besides that, we've got your back, and we won't let you ruin your kit.

The Battle of Jakku is without a doubt, Canon. Make no mistake about that. If you aren't fully aware of that yet, you will be in less than two weeks - even if you never see it on the big screen, it is Canon.

Revisiting this thread, because since I originally asked - to help out a fellow trooper that is on the short side - we've all but completed his armor, and we made several cuts to get a better fit. For the biceps, you can pretty much cut height off of the top of them with no impact at all, as they are hidden behind the shoulder bells when worn. For the forearms, you can cut down 1/4-1/2 inch or so from the elbow before you get into the details of the armor and can't cut any further. Obviously, you cannot cut anything out of the wrists. Additionally, much like the OT TK had mobility cuts (half moons) made in the backs of the thighs and calves, you can put similar cuts in the forearms on the FO TK. Why do I say that you can do this? Here's why: For the thighs, you can cut plenty off of the top of them with no risk of really damaging the appearance of the armor. The shins, you can cut from the top a bit, or from the bottom some (but you may have to recreate the cutout if you cut too high) without issue. For the back, yoke, and chest... We didn't find any way to sensibly downsize them, but the way that the armor fits, you can pretty much leave them alone for most people. For the abdomen, as has been discussed, you can cut down the top of it (behind the chest plate) or cut some girth out of it, but not a great amount as the sides are hard molded to the body shape. For cutting down all of those limb parts evenly, there is a simple trick that I use (for cutting any armor uniformly, actually. Not just the FOTKs). You get yourself a pencil, and another straight "stick." It could be a chopstick, another pencil, whatever. You tape the two of them together so that the one on the top extends no less than an inch beyond the pencil's sharpened tip. Then, you put the tip of the pencil lead against the armor and rest the other "stick" on top of the armor. Draw all the way around, and cut to that line. You will effectively recreate the original curve of the armor and remove about 1/4 of an inch each time you do it.

Karpouzian's (50677) Anovos TK build

Aye, that it does. Boots are looking good, by the way! -
Mediocre? Now you're being generous.

There is a lot of speculation that they'll appear in Rogue One, and I'd say while that Battlefront should be considered a Canon source, an onscreen appearance would pretty much do away with any customization of the costumes as there'd be hard details to follow after that.

Tapatalk is indeed probably the best way to go about posting from your iPad. It is the only way I can do so without the annoying
popping up all over the place.

More or less, yes. There are some out there where the rail ends in the front half of the sight, and others where they "pop-up" window of the sight is removed and the rail ends in the back half of the sight aperture.

Hey there Chris, The differences can be seen by researching the CRLs (Costume Reference Libraries) for each of the costumes. They are primarily differences in the helmet and belt. As for the "why" there are two different TKs, that's pretty simple. Back before HD and home viewing, costume shops for movie productions typically made two different "versions" of many of the props that they made. The "Stunt" versions were more widely produced (typically) and were never meant to be viewed close up on screen. The "Hero" versions were made in smaller numbers, and were meant to be used for all of the close-up shots, to ensure that all of the proper details were evident and on display consistently during the movie. Many new people think that "Hero" and "Stunt" were specific to Star Wars, and the fact that the Rebel Scum "Heroes" were wearing those helmets, but they really have nothing to do with that. They're just terms from the industry.

Neither actually. LoL. I've managed to miss out on the fun at the place for over 25 years now. Just going down for a site visit and to attend a public meeting on an airspace proposal they've been working on.

If any of you happen to catch this in time, I'll be hanging out in your neighborhood for the next couple of days and nights.

If you want to meet up for a bite to eat, let me know!
