Karin uses a mix of white acrylic paint (water based) and white glue (wood glue or similar) but you need lots of thin coats and it is time consuming, Karin's tutorial is here . I managed to find some screen printing paint, worked really well and I only needed three coats. I tried a small section and it worked fine so ended up applying 3 light coats as it covers quite well. It says on the directions that you can lock in the paint by heating to 130 deg in an oven, I was a bit worried I would find a puddle of latex in my oven but I gave it a go. They worked out great, can bend, fold, squeeze the hand guards and there is no sign of the paint cracking or peeling.

I'm sure Charles won't mind me answering. Magnets are great for the areas that clamps can't get too, along the middle of cover strips, good for first setting up your helmet too, would highly recommend them. I had 20 3/4 rare earth magnets and could have done with more. Best place I found to buy them was ebay.

No I applied just enough heat to both sides so it didn't distort, if you hold pressure to it you can feel when there is enough heat, you can feel the pieces move. Pressure first then heat, has saved me on many a stubborn piece of abs.

I had a bit of a gap in the centre of one of my shins, I applied some heat to both sides and then pushed the two pieces together which closed the gap, just hold until it cools. I used the velcro, was a nicer look for me, make sure you leave enough cover strip to glue the Velcro too, I glued 10mm of the cover strip to one side of the calve and left 15mm for the velcro. Just a tip, before applying glue rough up the surface with some course sandpaper, will give a better hold for the velcro

Sometimes the paint is still soft so you could use a knife or toothpick to scrape some paint away. Sanding would be a last resort as you need to use a very fine paper before using polish, if the paper is too course it will leave scratches

Yay you got your kit but shame you have to do so many mods, I have heard this with some other pre made kits. It is a shame but at least you have taken the right road to improving what you have. Just on what I can see the black lines on your ears just needs a little fix, just to get them a little thinner would look great. Some people have to use quite large cover strips on their thighs and they put these on the rear so they are not noticed as much. Keep up the good work I'm sure you will win in the end

I keep 2 small flat pieces of wood at hand just in case there is a warp, sandwich the warp while hot between them and you can bring it back to straight

Having others eyes is a great help, I went through the same experience, you think you are just about done then someone says "hey did you notice this" lol. After all you where 99% there, just needed a couple of tweaks. Good luck with your mods and hope to see a centurion approval soon

I had all sorts if trouble with mine, I could get it to sit straight but then it wouldn't follow the angle of the shin, again with the use of my trusty friend "the heat gun" I managed to fiddle a bit and won in the end

No you can't have just flat backs, must be an inner backing, with sides
