This is correct, nomex/leather gloves are good for EIB and are great for trooping. Trooperbay has some great rubber ones when you are ready for Centurion. Welcome to the FISD!!

I'd have to see the helmet for sure because I'm not familiar with that brand but don't give up too soon, just don't trim anymore off yet. Let's see if someone more familiar with this build will chime in with some ideas.
