  1. I think I am good to go straight to Phasma and not go white. So no painting before chroming. Some parts are not chrome, they are more of a brushed metal, mostly the additional parts. I'll be working on that this weekend. I GET A WHOLE WEEKEND TO WORK ON HER!!! Special thanks to Ray Choi who is going to salvage my bondo disaster, and to all my Squirrelfriends who have been putting up with my obsessive chats, growing pains, and helping with stupid questions.
  2. OK Sorry this is the slowest dang build ever. HELMET ARRIVED!!!! Most exciting thing since March! It's a Thorsson, nice size and good quality, seems to be pretty accurate as far as I can tell, and came with bubble lenses which I do not look forward to seeing through (but probably better than my TFA helmet's lenses!). --------------------- I have a lot of work to do. I wish I still had my flexible work-from-home-on-your-own-hours job!!! hhaaha Anyway I can't seem to do it after school so I need weekends. Excuses excuses. I have analyzed photos from the mannequin at D23 and made a list of all the parts to create from scratch. Most of it is pretty do-able. I have a source for 3PO fingers to attach to the gloves. Her gloves are not TK gloves but something more like thin leather driving gloves. Should be easy to attach stuff to. She has extra hand plate parts, extra double shins held together with mylar/sliver tape, foot plates, all sorts of fun stuff. The hardest thing to get right will probably be the cod, which is pretty much a hockey jill that I thought would be easy to find and modify but they all seem to be weird shapes now, but I will keep looking. Like online. Duh, I forget about online sometimes. Her blaster is just a chromed D-11 or whatever it's called, the TK blaster. It looks "bigger" but honestly I don't see any actual proportional difference based on her hands. She is a big but skinny woman and the blaster may look bigger from foreshortening or who knows what -- I don't think it will matter in the initial build but if it is different I will source it afterward. I laid my hard rubber gaskets out and measured and will be making lycra versions. If it comes out well, I will make you all Lycra versions! So that's the latest, more soon!
  3. They look like a cross between incinerator trooper and clone shock trooper. The stripes on the helmet scream shock trooper. The armor/helmet is mostly TK-ish, not clone.
  4. I think I've already glued everything wrong!!! Just kidding. I feel rusty. I glued biceps, thighs, and shins. I have a long way to go. I spent an extra 2 hours battling my internal craftsmanship foreman on the biceps which I had apparently not finished detailed trimming... All those mods in that photo... awesome, I didn't even notice on the hand plates! She has a LOT of parts to contend with making new. The Stony Props looks pretty good... any news on how to reach them?
  5. Any photos like that are beyond helpful, you have no idea! I did not get to see the suit in person at D23 so if anyone has any photos close up or weird angles, yay! I am told those are C3PO fingers, maybe close enough... I can do them without plastic, in any case.
  6. UPDATE 12/23/15 - TUTORIAL IN PROGRESS HERE. https://goo.gl/QZYhBE -------------------------------------- From 13 September 2015: Hi, all. I've been slooooowly chipping away at my armor and it's time to get building. It's been a long while since March and I hardly remember what I'm doing. So many pieces!!! My plan is to build a general white TK for now which will be modded for Phasma. I'm still looking for a helmet to mod so if anyone has a cracked one or something proportionate and workable (not the RFP early ones) let me know I have many details for her mods but I need the basic build first. Tips welcome!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Wow! I would never know who was in the helmets!
  8. It has been my plan to do this character... though I'm only 5/10/11 not 6/3 ... but I've been watching some of the differences in the images and some of the details can be confused with reflection (i.e. cod dimples = parapets?). Need more images!! But build in the works, and probably automotive chrome ftw.
  9. ME ME ME ME ME And any Epic TKs I can drag along... I thought you said "I don't have any pants"
  10. I just use a thin black elastic strap from bell to bell across my chest. There's no tension when I'm at rest, but if they start to slip backward, the elastic tenses and keeps them from going anywhere. By thin I mean like a hair band thin... You can get elastic cord at Michael's or Joann.
  11. Don't ask. His text was along the lines of "I don't see your local people making the news"... Which in a positive spin shows that what SCrossG did for the young lady is internationally famous, and that all over the world people are getting the message that bullying is not okay and Star Wars rocks and bad guys can do good. Yay!!
  12. You guys are so awesome, in fact, that someone I know who hates star wars heard about this troop and texted me about it!!!
  13. Wow, this IS an old thread! I still prefer to look like I walked off the screen, not the set. I'm not into the acrylic-capped or screen-used look. But that's just me and my one opinion. I have had to ditch the S-trim and I have gone back to regularly wearing Nomex gloves with Karin's rubber hand plates; that just became a functional requirement for trooping often. Over the years my energy has waned for caring. Generally speaking, while my attention to detail is still high, my tolerance of variations is also high. I love my TK buddies, the people inside the costumes, more than I care about their suits and whether or not they are screen or set accurate. GROUP JELLY ROLL
  14. Hi there, neighbor! First of all, welcome! Someone will probably contact you shortly to help you get started. I would but I'm limited to my phone at the moment. I think k if you can use Tapatalk the garrison web site should work on your iPhone. We have an academy, fire team, armor parties, our first LA Squad meeting, and lots of other fun stuff going on so stay tuned or try again and you'll be up and marching shiny in no time! Ingrid In valley glen next door
  15. Best. Mission. Report. Evar. Also best booth best people best con experience evar. Thanks, Clamps and Pickles, for being best hosts ever!!! I'll be "your Americans" any day!!!
  16. I know I just think they look higher ankled and more rounded toe ... they also have some elvis boot looking thing in front... I'm guessing some kind of future TK like everyone else......... wish they'd stop teasing the animals!
  17. Those look more like biker scout boots to me but hey, I doubt TK Boots is supplying their wardrobe department.............. er.............
  18. They look fine to me. You don't want any visible seams if possible, but these days that's hard to find. If the seams are at least black it should be good.
  19. Welcome, Jenny! There are lots of girls here (and smaller guys) who can help you along. Don't worry, there's a lot of room in the chest piece for "the girls"... you'll probably have more room than I do for the Aker amp once you get to that point. I say get a suit and build it all. I would get your hands dirty on some plastic before tackling a helmet. CHEERS! Ingrid
  20. I was going to say the trickiest parts were the sniper plate not lining up and probably the belt snaps into the ab piece. I thought the helmet would be hard but I enjoyed it the most. The knee ammo is a little bit of a challenge figuring out whose advice is correct for lining up the bumps, where to put the rivet, etc. I also built in a complete vacuum, going only by the awesomesauce here on FISD. Making snap plates and having my husband understand how to help me "wear" separate pieces of armor to determine where to put the snap plates so that the elastic would be the right length, etc.... that was a challenge for sure. In fact it still boggles my mind that my armor fits so nicely.
  21. Hey, Darren, just popping in to see your progress - great job so far!
