Another newbie helmet build that needs help...
SirDenzington89 replied to JimmyFilth's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I'm kinda OCD about the gaps myself. I just started redoing my helmet and put a new set of ears on. They had small gaps so I just took some calk and smoothed it around the sides. Then let it dry, sanded it all down and painted it and you can't even tell it's there. Not sure if that's an automatic fail or not. I have a HIPS helmet though so I have to do painting anyway. Not sure what you have but if it's ABS or something similar and you don't have to paint then I wouldn't touch it -
Sorry if this is long. To start I have an ATA kit from 2010. I posted this on the welcome page but basically I think I irreversibly wrecked my left thigh peice and couldn't pay to replace it so my whole suit has been sitting in a box since 2010. Now I really want to get this thing done so I have been working on what I can. I wanna make this thread for the build and as a place I can come to show pictures and ask for help.

What's done
Chest, back, lower back, butt, shoulders, biceps, forearms, handplates and helmet. Everything but the helmet needs to be repainted.

Problems
The legs are the issue. This is where I screwed up. The right thigh is now quite a squeeze to get into. As are both shin parts. The shins connect in the back with Velcro. I messed up the left thigh and in an attempt to save it I tried to pull it apart and it cracked and where the parts were butt joined in the front looks like sharks teeth (jagged up and down both sides) and I don't see a way to fix it. This is where I put it down 5 years ago.

Still needed
Clips, belt, boots,

I was younger and less wise when i started and problems ensued. I hand sanded and trimmed everything with a knife. I didn't have the right tools or a lot of money and that's still the case. I'm just a massive fan like you guys who wanted to get a set of armor. Hopefully I can make it happen this time. I'll post some pictures when I get back home. I also want some advice about attaching the knee band and sniper plate. I was using screws but they poke my legs when I put the stuff on so that won't work. Basically it is a real hot mess

Which armor kit should I get
SirDenzington89 replied to Ric_Stargazer's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I like the shiny look of the ABS and itd probably be my ideal choice. I like the fact that you dont have to paint it. Hopefully I can get an ABS kit someday. I do think that they are overpriced. You dont necessarily get what you pay for, ATA is a cheaper kit, AP is more expensive but ATA has really sharp details in the the faceplate on the helmet and the rest of the armor. It looks da%^ good when its all done. -
Which armor kit should I get
SirDenzington89 replied to Ric_Stargazer's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Its made out of HIPS and the AM, AP etc are made from ABS. The HIPS is a slightly more fragile then the ABS. Someone more experienced can explain why. However the HIPS is very durable even still. One of the guys I know here has had his HIPS kit for 5 years and it still looks great. Already I've dropped various pieces on the concrete in my garage and its held up very well. I'm planning on using it to get into the 501st also. Ill PM with some Armor info that was sent to me awhile back when I started out -

Im 6 ft and 160, ATA is perfect for me and its cheaper than the AM and looks more accurate -
I like it too. One thing tho, I think itd look good with just a helmet with the blasters crossed underneath and the words "first imperial stormtrooper detachment" below the blasters in that silver color, just a thought

Definatley. Thanks for the kind words everyone. It really means a lot

Whats up everybody? Ive been away for a couple months. Truth is ive been battling a drug addiction for a year. Thankfully I dont have to do it by myself anymore. Now ive been clean for a almost a month. I'm in therepy to help me get over the grip of addiction and I am now getting back to my ATA kit that I neglected for months in the corner of my room, I couldnt fit it into my busy schedule of getting high everyday. Working on my kit has now become my "anti-drug" haha. It really helps to get my mind focused in another way. Well anyway, sorry to get all personal here. Im hoping to get my suit done (id say its about 85% done at this point) and get admitted to the 501at by June so I can troop the Star Wars Concert in Raleigh. You guys are great -Jonathan

Anyone planning to offer an accurate ANH HDPE Trooper Bucket?
SirDenzington89 replied to JoeR's topic in Off Topic
i am now checking the bottoms of every milk container and mustard container in my refidgerator to see if they are made out of HDPE lol -
it seems like every day there is a new AM thread haha. John, id check out the ATA. IMHO its a great kit, pretty accurate and a fair price for sure. There are still some of the old FX problems with the AM even. Also I believe the kit still comes with the old FX helmet. Before you make a decision check out ATA armor, if you havent already, its right under your nose. Good luck trooper!

man someone is always talking about MOT, get armor from a vendor here on the FISD -
Im pretty sure you can get an ATA lid for 100 bucks. ATA would probably assemble it for you too, he seems like a nice enough guy.

Yeah I am using the Rustoleum. My helmet has a pretty decent shine to it but the armor is looking a little dull. Its started to warm up significantly here in NC so I'll probably give it another go here pretty soon.
