  2. Protective gear is important Shoulder bell and tab support - trimmed/untrimmed Thighs The back pieces were just a big cylinder cut in half and I could not see any indications on what was up or right/left so eventually (after testing every way) just figured they weren`t specific The back piece sticks up quite high so that had to go before first test fit Looked at various ref pic and tried to emulate the shape best as I could Here`s the sanded and cleaned up pieces taped together, ready for final fitment.

  3. I also could go either way on the return edge at the wrists. As to the rivets, I am satisfied we have seen enough evidence that these existed on more than one kit and the amendments to the CRL should be made.

  5. So I’ve done a bit more adjusting and it’s a bit better but still won’t get higher levels of approval in my opinion. In these pictures my chest is as high as it will go without... talking in a higher voice. I’m hoping I can find a better way to fix this than shimming the back piece about an inch or so. Basically same premise as when people shim the ab to kidney. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Added more snaps today, the conectors between lower arm and biceps are now drying. The snap on the cod-piece is also in place. Even now, when I am so close, I feel intimidated by the amount of ABS and work still ahead of me. I thought my First Order TI was a lot of work, smoothening it out, painting it to commercial-paintjob-levels of high gloss. But somehow this iconic costume makes me constantly backtrack and triple, quadruple check what I am doing. Next up: the ammo pouch on the thigh. cut the edges tighter to the boxes, haven't smoothened them yet. It is too warm to do any sanding today Also didn't cut the round edges yet as I am now measuring and playing around. I would have loved it if I could have put the middle pouch lined up with the coverstrip, However I do not feel I have enough playing room to get the pouches lined out on the corners of the leg to move it around. Innerleg: Outer leg: And the front: 45 (yes, I know I still need to clean up the glue on the coverstrips...) Tips on the placing and alignment here would be much appreciated! Shoulder straps... they were still too wide: So started by marking them off with pencil. Attempted to do snap and score on them, but they are too bent and too narrow an edge for that to work for me (might work for others of course, but I could not get a proper grip on it). So marked the line with a pencil and used the scissors instead. After cutting and sanding: The fit seems a lot better now: Cleaned them under the tap to remove all pencil marks and sanding dust. No more clamps, so not glueing them down today just yet. Now I am off to also cut the edges of my belt pouches a bit closer to the boxes and then the 45 degree corners off of it. Again, all your help, comments and suggestions are incredibly appreciated!!

  7. Honestly I usually look it up before writing it but I was just too tired and didn’t want to loose my train of thought on the whole thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Here is a question wrt to return edge - before you put this in a CRL - the question is what problem are you trying to solve? Has this come up a lot? We can't put every detail in a CRL, so usually put ones where people have issues.

  11. Hey guys, Andrew – can you please update the first post so that there is a list of changes and their status as the first part? It will keep things clean for tracking. Any changes should be in keeping with the spirit of the awards, e.g. EI = a step up from base CRL that can be done for a low to moderate cost, and a moderate amount of effort. Parts/changes should be easy to come by. Centurion = as good as we can get it and builds upon L1/L2 requirements. Thus we’d never want to put something in EI that is very hard to do, or requires an extensive mod or a part that is very hard to get or expensive. Also, realize that we can’t include every possible permutation or costume flubs, e.g. just because there is a single TK on screen that does not have a holster doesn’t mean we’ll allow them to be optional, and just as there is – on BluRay freeze frame – gaffers tape and paint boo-boos doesn’t mean we’ll allow them either. CRLs should be pretty static and are usually done once a year for major changes. The ones we are doing monthly are usually small adds to L2/L3 that shouldn’t really affect people who’s builds are in flight. L1 items again if monthly are usually small items. The “official stance” is really whatever the DL & LMO agree on. Ultimately, the CRLs are owned by the LMO team and as they have trust in DLs, they allow the DL’s to make changes directly. Since I’ve been involved with the CRL process for over a decade and have written or re-written dozens of CRLs across 3 detachments, they’ve been pretty good about letting me update them directly. At some point it would be great to have a trusted FISD staff member as back-up, as at some point I’ll want to pull an Albin and retire from day-to-day. For ROTJ for the rivets on the shoulders, this is why it is a case where we start with making it optional for those who want to do it, and would only make it mandatory if for instance we only find one person without them. As noted, we do move quickly on FISD mainly as we have a very mature and seasoned team in place. I was reading chatter over at one detachment where most staff were pretty new and had little idea as to the CRL process, and as a result they spent a lot of time churning on this. For the CRL models, we change them as we get better models is really all there is to it. As for text vs. pictures, I’ve been a GML for 10+ years and can certainly say that neither on their own is adequate. The reality is that neither can really stand on their own, and if GMLs are confused to me this is a failure of training new GMLs. Sad that some garrison's just aren't that squared away.

  14. Some do and some don`t...I never did on any of my belts (1.5mm) and they stay put just fine, try bending the belt and see how much of a flex it has would be my advice

  15. So i decided I couldn’t stand my bucket anymore. Took it completely apart. (Rivets and all) to get it looking better. I’m super happy with It now. I lowered the brow a tad, gave it a slight bow up in the middle, and got the ears fitting waaaay better. Before After Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. I am so sorry this thread had to end up here. In a place that has become so non friendly to other members of the 501st, no mater what costume they are trying to assemble. Terry is a 501st member and he was just asking for help, experience and guidance. But just because you do not UNDERSTAND the costume should not give you right to tear down someone for something you know nothing about. My FEM7 is NOT a Stormtrooper costume! I know there is no canon character like this in the Star Wars universe. That's why I was able to make it. I have devoted 10 years of my life sculpting canon characters and have made over 16 different ones for the 501st members and some for the Rebel Legion. I know all the nit picky details that need to go into making a costume so that it can be approved by the 501st. This FEM7 was something I wanted to do, to break away from all rules that tare down the fun and creativity. Simply, I got board as an artist, just coping someone else designs and making it look as close as I could to resemble a canon SW character. Making things function was fun as most of the characters I have made over the years where never a tangible armor. It all came from CGI or drawing or animation. So the FEM7 was just taking the things I have learned and love about Star Wars and making something fun for the ladies. Cosplay is huge!!! It goes way beyond the 501st. You need to think outside of the box and realize there is more to costumes than just the canon characters. Sometimes it's just about expressions, like a person who creates new fashion designed dresses for a run way show. I am creating something new with a material I am familiar with. I am creating a new line of Cosplay armor that women can do what ever they want with it. Paint it any way they want. Add any add-on parts they want. Simply, they can just have fun with it and not worry about what others think. Kevin W.
