Hello, my name is Dan.  I am in the Makaze squad of the Florida Garrison.  I currently have an Imperial Death Trooper but also wanted an ANH Stunt.  I put in my order today so now its just a waiting game to get my kit and start trooping in it!

Looking forward to seeing some BBB photos soon.

This thread may be quite helpful, research while you are waiting for your kit.

Good luck with the build

I've been working on a Boba Fett since May 3rd of last year and it still isn't done.  Waiting is definitely a part of the game!

Dan, congratulations on starting your ANH Stunt Stormtrooper journey with the Makaze Squad of the Florida Garrison how are you preparing for the build and the waiting period before your kit arrives? Will it differ from assembling your Imperial Death Trooper?

The ANH Stunt is such an iconic choice. While the Death Trooper has that intimidating, modern elite vibe, there is something unbeatable about the classic look of a clean white TK. It’s a perfect contrast to your current kit.

Not a whole lot of prep at this point as I am just waiting for the kit.  I've been planning on mods to the kit, but haven't made it too far as I am not 100% sure on what I will get.

First note...The comment about not sure what I was getting was from a couple of weeks ago, but apparently I never hit post...

My box actually got here a week and a half ago but I have been travelling for work so I couldn't enjoy it much.

Easy approval according to my GML.  Some photos at the end...

I have a bunch of parts laying around so now I just need to make it fit and look a little better.

1. The helmet sits way to low on my head, I can pretty much swivel my head inside the bucket without it moving.  Going to add a PASGT harness like on my Fett helmet to the inside for comfort and control.

2. Also need to cleanup the insides of the bucket.  The 4 screws that hold it together were not trimmed down so they are like 1-1/2" long which is bonkers.  Gonna trim them and put some acorn nuts on them so they don't catch on my balaclava.  I also don't really like the chin strap.  I may remove it or just tuck it away, not sure yet.

3. Add fans to the bucket.  I got some Henry's fans in pretty quickly so I just have to mount them.

4. I may look into replacing the lens material as its super flimsy and occasionally touches my nose and deforms and it drives me nuts.  I'd like to find something a bit more rigid that I can trim up and put in, but for now it works.

5. Need to work on a better suit up order.  Right now it takes more help to get this on than my Death Trooper which is 10x more complicated.  I think this will just be a practice thing.

6. Need to look at others suited up to see what "right" looks like.  I don't like my approval photos at all as I can tell my ab armor is twisted funny and I'm picky.  My handlers (wife and kids) do their best, but don't always know what to look for.

7. New gloves...Oh do I need new gloves.  These rubber things are awful.  Thankfully Dave's Darkside Depot is in FL and he was able to take my order pretty quickly.  Not sure when they will arrive.

8. The tops of my shins press into my knees and its somewhat irritating so I may add some foam or something to make it hurt less.

9. As with my DT, the thighs hang lower than I'd like so I'm going to build a harness that goes over my shoulders.  Belts don't work great as I have a bit of a belly and the belt just slides down my stomach, so I need the support higher up.  Biggest problem is making sure its not visible.  That shouldn't be a problem on my back, just at the chest level.

10. I picked up an iComm box and amp, so I just need to work the mounting in the chest armor.  I may also put in a sound board for preprogrammed stuff, but we'll see.

Questions for the knowledgeable folks out there.

1. For your undersuit, do you just wear something like an under armor skin tight suit and the armor over that, or are there multiple layers?  RS Prop Masters sent along an under suit for free but its like a pair of sweat pants and shirt and was hot as heck.  I'd prefer to just wear my under armor compression clothing, but not sure if that is too revealing under the armor or if another layer is required.

2. Anyone have a source on more rigid eye lens materials?

3. Any tips/tricks for suit up to make it more of a 1 man operation?

OK, so its been a couple of months and I have been dealing with some fit issues.  I really do not like how this sits on me.  I was able to get it to fit well enough for approval, but its still not great.

1. The codpiece ends up sitting about 3 inches too high and hits me square in the crotch.  In order to connect the butt/cod strap, it has to be pulled extremely tight which then makes the armor shift constantly while wearing.

2. The back sits too high in my opinion.  If I put the back plate up where it sits properly at my shoulders, then the bottom of the butt plate hits the middle of my butt.  Again, it can be pulled down with the strap, but then the armor just sits funny.

I contacted RS prop masters and they are trying to help me remotely but so far we've only traded a couple of emails.  So some questions for the experts...

1. One of the recommendations is to lengthen the strapping between the plates.  I can do that, but I am concerned that it will not look right.  By my estimation, I need to get almost 3" more "height" on the front and back for it to sit comfortably.  I may be able to get near that on the front as there is overlap on the chest/ab, but the back is butt joined and any lengthened straps will create gaps in the armor.  Will that look bad/wrong?

2. In the pictures below, is the butt plate sitting too low?  I put it there as that is where it properly covers my bottom and allows the bottom tip to go between my thighs comfortably to connect the strap.

3. Are there any suggestions on what to do or am I being overly picky?

Here are the latest photos I sent to RS to help with fit issues.  Their first suggestion was to lengthen the shoulder straps which did allow the front to come down a good bit.  The problem then was that the sides were severely misaligned so I had to pull the back down which made it fit poorly at the shoulders.  As you can see from the side picture, even pulling the back down, it is still too high for the front, but fit well around my bottom.  The front was positioned so that the cod was comfortable.  Again as you can see from the side picture, it still bumps out a little at the bottom.

How tall are you?, most armor makes can comfortably fit up to 6', anything over that is challenging. Adding extra strapping between the backplate and kidney would allow the backplate to come up.

I'm around 5'10" to 5'11"

I don't mind doing additional strapping, but all of the pictures I see have the back and kidney butt up next to each other or a slight overlap. I don't want it to look wonky/wrong by spacing them out.  Is that OK/allowed?

I have not been able to get mine to fit totally tight between the back and kidney plate either.  I've adjusted the strapping, used new straps and still there is a little gap.  I'm curious too how it can be done.

From the CRL

  • Back plate shall have no, or minimal overlap of the kidney plate.

This is a L3 Centurion detail not for base approval.

I suggest adjusting your strapping, you can see in this photo your backplate needs to come

Same with abdomen and kidney:

For L3 Centurion , ideally there is no gap between the abdomen and kidney armor Be aware that although not specifically listed in the CRL, this is a requirement for Centurion.  Please also note how the tops of the ab/kidney connection are level.

What you could do here is to change the internal chest strapping, to make it come up a little bit more, and when you tighten everything up with the belt, the back won't hang as much on your shoulders as it does now!

I've been trying to keep the L3 Centurion requirements in mind when getting this to fit which is why I am struggling.  If I pull the back up so it sits correctly, and move the front so it sits comfortably across my chest/crotch, the sides (ab/kidney) are grossly misaligned on the order of 3-4" off with the back much higher than the front.  If I pull the front up, I can get them somewhat aligned (less than 0.5"), but then the codpiece hits me mid-crotch and is about 3" to high.  Doing this also means the butt plate sits too high and the part that should go between my thighs hits me mid butt.  If I add strapping to lower the ab plate down, that will cause a misalignment on the sides again.  Ideally I would add strapping between the kidney/butt to get that into a better position, but that does not solve the side misalignment.

The reason the chest/shoulder strapping is really long is that was RS's suggestion to try and get the armor to be lowered a bit.  In my initial pictures to them, the back/chest where snug around my collar like they should be and that is where the problems started.  With the back/chest sitting correctly, it sits incorrectly around my crotch/butt and is roughly 3" too short.  They also suggested tightening the belt which helped with the side alignment, but did nothing for the fit problems down below.

Your height is pretty normal and should fit RS armor, perhaps have a look at other RS centurion applications and builds they may give you a better insight into what to adjust, here's a 5'10" RS, note the gap between the backplate and kidney.

I appreciate the links, thank you.  However, all of these look to be using the basic RS Prop Masters internal strapping and it fits them quite well.  In the pictures where the armor is splayed open and you can see the internals, thats exactly what mine looks like.  I believe my problem is that I am tall and have a longer torso than most.  So being almost 6' tall and then having a torso that is 3+" larger than typical for my size is throwing everything off.

Hey there Dan.

Just wanted to jump in here as mine is that first link.

I actually didn't use the RS internal strapping. I did custom snaps and fit the length of the strap, to whatever length I needed so I wouldn't have to constantly size the straps when I took the armor apart for storage.

2laq1qR.jpg

As some of the others have said, it looks like your back is sitting a bit low and your chest is a bit high. Those pieces are in a way connected as if you move the chest down, the back will come up. Similar on the ab/cod and the butt/kidney. You could then move the ab/cod more towards your body so there isn't that gap which would move the kidney/butt up and close that gap with the back since you moved that up. Are you trying to stick with using the RS strapping? I believe you don't have to for centurion (I didn't) and for me the snap strapping worked much better as I could size it to what I needed.

Reach out with any other questions, happy to help.

Keep up the great work!
