Jochensen[TK]
Hi everyone - I'm trying to figure out what the best/preferred way is to add shins to the ab and/or kidney plate to cover up gaps on the sides of the armor. In the CRL, shins are mentioned in the ab section but many people seem to be adding them to the kidney plate instead. Does it matter where I add them? If I add them on the ab plate, do the positions for the rivets move over to the side beyond the return edge and do I also have to move the snap positon on the upper right of the ab plate to the right side as well? Many thanks in advance for your help...
magni[TK]
Most of the time people one shim on each side of the kidney. Unless you're a thicker trooper then two may be required. The seam should be about mid section on your side. Hope this helps.
TK bondservnt[501st]
I'd prefer to hear from the DO's on this.
TK bondservnt[501st]
This is a serious issue to be handled by the DO's
Locitus[Admin]
Magni has the right idea.
ukswrath[Staff]
Magni is on point however, we do have a trooper currently going through approvals as we speak with double sided shims (ab & kidney). It's the general consensus between past and current DO's involved in the conversation that either way will be excepted as long as the shims are installed correctly, as specified in the CRL.
Jochensen[TK]
Thanks guys - what I am also worried about is whether the snap in the upper right corner of the ab plate would stay where it is without shins or whether it would move to the side? Same for the three rivet holes?
Locitus[Admin]
Thanks guys - what I am also worried about is whether the snap in the upper right corner of the ab plate would stay where it is without shins or whether it would move to the side? Same for the three rivet holes? I would move them accordingly. The shims become an extension of the armor, and should be treated as such.
Sly11[Admin]
The kidney plate is a fairly standard position to add shims, as per many past builds and reviews. Ukswrath is correct, we are currently reviewing an application with both Ab and kidney shims as each is several inches wide, it has placed the main seams very central on this particular trooper, but this doesnt mean it will work for everyone. It really is going to depend on how big those side gaps are.
Jochensen[TK]
Hi - the gaps are approx. 2 inches wide, so if it's advisable to start adding to the kidney plate, I will do that and check if it does the trick with the main seams. Thanks for all your feedback!
