Solcar23[TK] Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I began my E11 full resin kit last evening and after giving the kit a bath in the sink with some dish soap, dry fitting and scoring the surfaces to be glued I put the handle on the body and the two mag pieces together. I clamped all the parts with rubber bands and left them for 24 hours. When I came back to it tonight the handle fell off after inspecting it and the two parts of the mag came apart very easily. In everything I've read so far everyone seems to be using E6000 for the builds. Why didn't my glue set? I've never used E 6000 before. Would it just make sense to use 2 part epoxy instead for the build? It would occur to me that it would be a lot stronger as well as setting and curing faster. I have a lot of experience with styrene models but I've never put together a resin kit before. I have available in my modeling kit epoxy, cryo glue, plastic weld, Loctite for plastic, standard testors model glue as well as testors styrene glue. Would any of these work instead of the E 6000? I'm a bit bummed this happened on my first night, but at least I'll be able to scrape the E 6000 off if I have to and use another type. What to do......what to do!!! Quote
captsafe66[Admin] Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I have had good luck with the 2 part epoxy for my Doopy Doos projects. Loctite is good, Devcon makes a good one too. You shoud use a bit of cleaner to clean off the E 6000, I have had luck with one called Opps, multi purpose remover. Aceytone used lightly could work too, try a inconsicuous area first. Good luck. (Does it has one? idk) I used e6000 on my doopydoos build and it has NEVER failed me. I have even dropped my blaster a few times my accident on a few troops and no part has ever separated. Try getting a new tube, if it doesn't works then you can use crazy glue? Quote
darksideemt Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I did the hasbro mod with the doopy doos and used E6000 on all of it and never have had a problem. I also left mine banded for 24hrs and then moved on. Kinda weird. The Loctite stuff will work or CA glue is even better. Quote
Woulf[TK] Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I've actually been using a few different glues on mine, E-6000, loctite epoxy for plastic, and CA zap a gap. I bonded my pistol grip with E-6000, and then after the 24 hour cure time, i used CA Zap-A-Gap (medium thickness) and basically filled the gap between the edges of pistol grip and the body. I also did this method for the stock as well. I have yet to have had a problem with mine. Quote
Angevine[TK] Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I used mostly Unibond Repair Power Epoxy which really stuck the parts that will get handled the most. I then E6000 for all the rest, mostly for the ability to have a little movement for adjustment before it finally cured. So far the blaster has held up to my 2 year old grabbing it every now and then Quote

Solcar23[TK] Posted January 25, 2012 Author Report Posted January 25, 2012 So far so good, it looks like it's holding well. I haven't worked on it for a day so I'm not sure how it cured but after about 20 min it felt really solid! I think the epoxy is the way to go for me. Quote

ZeroRoom[TK] Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 The best and easiest way to do it is to get an account with an image hosting service like photobucket (absolutely free!). Put the pics up there. Then there are two things you can do: the easiest is to (on photobucket) hover your mouse over the image you wish to place in your post. A small drop down menu will appear offering the selection 'image code'. Just click on this and it's automatically copied. Then just paste it into your thread! The other way is to simply choose the image icon above the reply window. A pop up window will appear into which you can paste the URL of your image and it will magically appear in your post Quote

I know it's not much but this is about 2 days (not counting the removal of the E6000) work on it so far. I'm hoping to get back to it by the weekend! I also was informed by Terrell that my ATA kit is ready so that'll be here soon and this may take a backseat to getting started on that.......we'll see....
