  1. That sucks! You might've had better luck with a case of infectious TB but all kidding aside, its a damn shame what you went through.
  2. I was in a army surplus store the other day and came across some flight helmet bags like these: ----------- Roomy enough for a lid;the ones I saw were used and sold for $7.99 and came fleece lined with both interior and exterior pockets. Some even had metal clips for adding a carrying strap.
  3. My daughter used to share daddy's Star Wars fascination. Now that she's in middle school however, she's no longer interested. But there is another as they say - my 5 yo son wants to be Jango but scary enough, thinks Obiwan is cooler.
  4. Oh goody! Another pauldron discussion - which came first, their alleged rank function or just a visual accessory? Both? That's the question I suppose...
  5. Congratulations Paul and best wishes to Lisa and William. Hope to meet them soon (after they're well rested of course)!

    Best suggestion yet.
  7. This ties with the other discussion about how the majority of the legion, including the 'shorties' are fine with the FX. The general attitude was yeah, they knew it was inaccurate and yeah, they were aware of better suits out there - but most of them seemed to be in no rush to upgrade anytime soon. For me it was a learning process to move from something entirely FX to a hybridized RT mod chest and TE2 lid, and LOTS of time with the heat gun. This option suited my own money/time constraints without shelling either out on a whole new suit. I chose RT when some guys in the Canadian garrisons raved about it and put me in contact with the seller. Quick response and up front about everything sealed the deal for me.
  8. 501st only polls I believe, but no worries - follow the standard and the suns still rise the next day for a crusty TD
  9. For some reason I kept getting an error message when I tried to view 501st only poll. Ah, maybe TDs don't count

    RT mod

I think its a spray treatment which some people apply to the bed of their pickups to sort of rubberize it but I could be wrong.
  12. I saw the touring suit at the OMSI exhibit in Portland and I thought the quality and construction was pretty shoddy compared to my early FX suit. Go ahead and replicate what was on screen but at least ensure the quality of construction withstands just a few minutes screen time which the original suits were designed for.

    RT mod

Can't wait to see it Wyatt. Pics, pics!
  14. I believe I was that person. The padding was initially added to prevent wobbling since I have a small head but removing a front and back pad did add a little relief. I found also by wearing a UA cap, it indirectly prevented the helmet from wobbling around. During the march I noticed one trooper with minimal padding having to adjust his helmet every five minutes or so due to wobbling.
  15. I've brought this issue up before in the first edition of Static Burst and was rather surprised at the time how many people took offense to my prediction that the FX lid was on its way out. FX armor is still by far the most common worn by the legion but at TORP, I noticed a lot of hybrid configurations with RT Mod, TE and even MovieFx. More than a year has passed since I had written that article but as Paul noted, ANH styles are increasing in popularity. An informal count of FX helmets in Bravo company(about 66 marchers), excluding clones, TBs and snowies yielded only about 4-6 FX among the TDs which were greatly outnumbered by ANH styles. Anyone else in Bravo, feel free to correct me but I would be curious what the breakdown for Alpha would be.

    Rose Parade

I'll be there, probably in my Garrison Titan shirt and jacket. Just used my legion mug here; photo's over a year old and FX lid since replaced with TE2. http://www.501st.com/members/displaymember...amp;userID=5288 See everyone in Cali!
  17. Wow, some amazing bios here! What makes me who I am begins naturally with my upbringing. My family hails from Hawaii, but moved around a lot since I'm an Air Force brat. Dad was the first Asian-American crew member for Air Force One during the Nixon/Ford presidencies and the first half of Carter's (he thought Nixon was the most personable despite what the media said). His world travels influenced my own interest in current events around the world and appreciation of our country's rather privileged place in it, for better or worse. Knowing everyday is full of potential to achieve something personally and professionally makes me tick. I despise mediocrity; any endeavor should be accomplished to the best of one's ability and prefer quality to quantity - that's why I'll never collect Hasbro stuff Self-reliance once was a trait I greatly admired and still do, but as I get older and my social and professional networks widen, the realization dawns that we can't live like luddites. Day job? Trade finance banker for 12+ years and although it allows my family and me to live comfortably, my inner geek tells me to get out and open that hobby/comic shop. Passions, where to start? Before SW, I've always had an interest in earth sciences and natural history, particularly geology and paleontology. First couple years at university I majored in chemistry before deciding it wasn't for me. Also keen on history, scale model building, and hiking. I've been married 16 years with a 11 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son. My wife's from Japan and tries to ensure they're raised bilingually but its a real challenge when you're competing with Sponge Bob. We lived in Tokyo for 10 years early part of my marriage and before the kids were born but decided the good ole USA can't be beat for quality of life in comparison. Glad to know some of you and hopefully meet up to troop some day.
  18. I noticed you're in the Seattle area. You might try hooking up with the local garrison there at http://www.garrisontitan.com. A few of the guys are trying to get some weekly armor parties going and that may be a good way to get some pointers on assembly. Some of them are real pros at it.

  20. This issue has been argued endlessly on the MEPD boards with the conclusion that in order to meet its deployment standards, a pauldron is required because the majority of those on screen wore one. However within the context of setting canon deployment standards for FISD, it should likewise be based on the film and no where does it instance any clean troopers with a pauldron. Deductive a priori reasoning says yes, a TD must've been clean before getting dirty but again, no objective evidence in the film to support it. The whole purpose of setting up FISD was to set higher canon standards which would eliminate any ambiguity as to questions whether a clean TK with pauldron is acceptable. The legion may tolerate it, especially for non-canon events but I'm finding detachments to be more parochial.
  21. That the OT armor was designed for moderately tall and trim stuntmen is well known. However the spectrum of fan body types is obviously much wider thereby requiring an inversion of the 'mold fitting the cast' in order to meet accuracy-based deployment standards. Two issues really: the armor's external appearance vs. internal construction. The challenge then is modding for utilitarian comfort without skimping on accuracy. However the fact that a lot of armor makes out there are pretty uniform means some troopers will need to shim while others don't. Some prefer lower lumbar flexibility and separate the butt and kidney plates while others don't. So its impossible to be 100% dead on unless the armor fairy magically custom sized and scaled each person's armor according to their measurements. We can only approximate to a reasonable level accuracy but it shouldn't mean at the risk of personal comfort. Remember, we're also striving for durability since most of us will be wearing our suits far longer than any of the scenes shot in the OT.
  22. Wyatt, you should've been at Shepperton back in '76 doing this to save us from a lot of grief.
  23. I've also used a heat gun with some success when I wanted to reshape my ab piece. Go gradual at about 8" minimum distance to avoid warping being careful not to overheat any one spot.
  24. Way to go! Congrats to all
  25. Just say the word and it could be arranged Paul.
