  1. I have the DVD and I feel the same way. I was expecting a road trip type movie where the documentary would go to different garrisons all over the country/world, go over some history for each, and show them in action. I think the stories in the movie were compelling, but didn't need to take up about 75% of the movie. I don't think this movie had its audience figured out very well. The first 15 minutes went over a brief history of star wars and 501st, explained what a "prop" is, and showed how to get suited up into some stromtrooper armor. Um, do you seriously think anyone who would watch this movie DIDN'T know about those things already? Its not like some one who has never heard of the 501st is going to watch this flick. I didn't hate the movie, its just not what I was expecting. If it was in video stores, I would say it was worth a rent. But since the only way you can see it is to buy it...
  2. Maybe if you make the curve you've cut reach out to the edges of the chest plate, rather than the kinda "Clone" shape you have right now, that might help the over-all look of it. Another solution would be getting a replacement chest and wearing you're ab plate lower.
  3. One good thing about Rubies... makes an FX lid look screen used when they're standing next to each other!
  4. Neat! Maybe if the Stormies in the movies has Laser sights they would actually be able to hit something!
  5. I had a hard time getting mine off without the area around the aerators getting really soft, too. The key like Murray said the key is low heat. I just heated the inside up really slowly so the glue heated up before the plastic did, with a LOT of wiggling.
  6. Hey all, Is it normal to not be able to bend your arms much more than 90 degrees when you're wearing your armor? I want to get some opinions before I start trimming even more. I have RT-Mod so I know all the pieces are made for some one around 6'2" and I am around 5'8 so that might be the source of my issues...
  7. So long time no update! My dad took these, and this was his first time using a digital camera (ever). All things considered I think he did a good job. So please excuse my funny faces, the sun was in my eyes and I had no idea when he was taking pictures or not. Problems I see: -Shoulder bells are sagging too far away from the straps (fixing) -Biceps are too low (going to try adding foam to the inside of them, if that doesn't work I will add a strap that connects them to the shoulder bell) -Back plate is off center (fixing) -Thighs are a little ajar (fixed) -Shims on the thighs are a little crooked (fixed) -Sniper plate is stuck inside thigh (heating it up and bending it outwards slightly) I am thinking about reshaping the chest a little bit with a heat gun, so it flares out a little more, or at the very least adding some elastic straps to hopefully pull things a little more tightly. Opinions?
  8. In my opinion you'd be better off looking at reference pictures online. The only thing I think the scaled helmet would be helpful for is a ROTJ helmet build.
  9. Well here's where my MRCE is at right now. Soon I will have some pictures of my armor! Comments? Concerns?
  10. So yesterday before nightfall I was able to paint my MRCE which I have been working on for the past few weeks. I didn't bother taking any in progress pictures since I basically followed Noel's MRCE overhaul to a t, other thank keeping the ears that came with the MRCE and thinning them. I painted it with the infamous Rustoleum High Performance White, so all I can do is look at it for a few days. Here is how it looks right now: As for my armor its scattered all over my house, clamped together with some E6000 entering its first hour or so of drying. I should have a test fit picture up in a few days!
  11. I'll call and ask, but from what I gathered from talking to them before all they have are these precut sheets of ABS with no real variety for what color and gauge I wanted. Actually I asked for .080 but they said the closest they had was .096 <_<. So I assume that they just have more of the same.
  12. So I bought a sheet of ABS locally to make the detail strips to assemble my RT-Mod armor the "movie accurate way", rather than doing it the "overlapping the pieces" way (If that makes any sense). Unfortunately I did not to have the wisdom or foresight to bring a piece of my armor with me to verify that the shades of white matched. So now this is what I am faced with, a big ol sheet that doesn't match my armor. Now the way I see it I have a few options: 1) Do it anyway and hope no one notices the difference in color. 2) Do it anyway but paint the strips with the Rustoleum Pro Enamel White I have left over from reworking my MRCE first. (my favorite option) 3) Save the ABS for another project and assemble the suit the "overlapping the pieces way" and hope I am still eligible for the EIB. (probably the most practical option) So... what do you guys think?
  13. So should one not attempt "option b" with Rt-Mod?
  14. You guys are right, I should just leave it be, so I will. I think I am just suffering from this diseases I have called perfectionism Thanks guys!
  15. Hey all (Happy 4th!), I posted this in my build thread also but I think this is a better place to ask this question. My RT-Mod chest has some "ripples" in it. They are these little raised grooves that are somewhat noticeable to the naked eye, and I am looking for a way to fix them. I was throwing around the idea lightly sanding them out and then bringing back the shine of the plastic with some Novus, but I am not sure if that would work, or look worse than what I started with. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Here are some pictures. They are really hard to photograph, but they are there: Thanks, -Hayes
  16. Hey all, Yesterday, after a few months of waiting, I finally got my helmetless RT-Mod kit: (yes I know a shoulder strap is missing, it fell out of the box and was out in my car ) Everything looks great, expect for a few areas. On the chest there are some "ripples" in the plastic that are somewhat noticeable to the naked eye. Is there anyway to fix this, like maybe sanding these areas smooth with a fine grit and bring back the shine with some novus? I'd really rather not have to paint it. The ripples are hard to photograph but here are some shots: So, any ideas on how to fix this?
  17. Amen to that! I can't wait for The Old Republic...
  18. An MRCE can be painted to nearly match ABS plastic. But personally if I was going to get such accurate armor as AP I would get an accurate helmet as well. I bought an MR CE liking it a lot at first as a newbie, but the more I am on this forum and see accurate helmets, the less I like my MR CE. So I am going to have to mod it now
  19. Thanks for the tip! I am glad to see you still recommend those speakers, I just bought some yesterday
  20. What kind of speakers are you using, a home made rig with parts from Radioshack? How loud is it/are they?
  21. Hey guys, I have a feeling this has been covered some where else, but maybe I can get some fresh opinions My RT-Mod armor is being shipped out next week, and so far all I have for supplies is one tube of E6000. I also plan on completely reworking my MRCE. For the suit I was planning on going with a snap system. So my question is, how much on average do you guys spend on your building supplies? I don't have a rivet gun, clamps, earth magnets, etc either. The only to I do have that I will need is a dremel, and other "basics". I ask because I need to figure out if I will have enough money left over to pay for next month's rent Thanks!
  22. There was an acclaimed expanded universe comic in an issue of Star Wars Tales a few years back, that addresses Vader recognizing C-3PO on cloud city. I really like this comic, actually. Here is a page: More info can be found here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Thank_the_Maker!
