This is my biggest concern, if I'm going to have the patience to finish mine. -
Capt Cardinal Build Thread - Sally
jsilvius replied to astrosally's topic in Captain Cardinal Build Threads
I want to thank you so much for taking the time to do this build. I've been wanting to do this since I read the books. And no that you've got the CRL approved, I'm working on my build. I am a bit worried, because as you said, I don't think these kits are made for 6'2" 250lbs male stormtroopers either. I currently have two 850 Armor works kits and an Anovos TFA hemet enroute to me. I don't know if the kits will work for my size, as it was suggested to get a KB Props kit, but those are getting harder to find. I printed both my SE-44C and my F11D Heavy Blaster and I'm currently working on finishing them while waiting for the armor parts to arrive. -
As I said before, the Jedha Sandtrooper is an MEPD costume. https://crls.501st.com/mepd/jedha-sandtrooper-rogue-one So there is no EIB (Level 2) or Centurion (level3) for it. FISD doesn't approve MEPD costumes. We are happy to help build the Non-Saga Stromtrooper (formally R1 Stormtrooper), but some of those questions will need to be addressed with MEPD (https://forum.mepd.net/) as to how their Level 2 and Level 3 approvals work. MEPD has Police Officer Program and S.W.A.T. Program as their Level 2 and Level 3 approvals. Typically, you need to meet all the criteria of Level 2 or Level 3 for that approval, but how you troop later is up to you.

ABS is always better for strength and temperature resistance, but my experience thus far is that PETG does the job. As for a build thread for the Jedha Sandtrooper, you'll have to check out MEPD.net. They are the home of the Sandtroopers. There is a lot of information on MEPD for them. https://forum.mepd.net/index.php?/forum/59-jedha-city-sandtroopers/ As for build threads, I don't know if they do that there like we do. You can always start a R1 Build thread here, and then go make it dirty with them.

I think the only comment I would make currently is, be very careful using PLA. When I first started printing I printed several blasters in PLA, and every single one of them warped at some point. PLA doesn't deal well with even moderate heat. If you leave it in the car to go have some lunch before or after a troop, there is a high chance that it will warp. I personally, don't print anything that is going to go outside, or be stored in the car before/after an event in anything less then PETG. I would print everything in ASA or ABS if I had the right environmental controls, but so far, knock on wood, none of my PETG props, including my Droid, have had any issues.

There are a few builders that will do this. But nothing is "501st Approvable" out of the box. Approval is based on how the armor fits the member wearing it. So while you could send your measurements to one of the folks that do commissioned builds, if it looks sloppy or out of proportion on you, it would need to be fixed before approval is granted. Your best bet is to buy a kit and find local members that can help you build it. There are plenty of Stormtroopers members in the North Carolina area. If you build it, you know how to adjust it, and fix it when, not if, it breaks. You can find many of the suggested makers on this list. Best of luck in your quest to join the ranks!

Aluminium plate? for the blaster? or the one for the thigh armor?

I do have the blaster printed. Just working on finishing it properly. It is a little rough currently. But figured it was something I could do while waiting to start the actual build. Sent from my SM-S938U using Tapatalk

with my many thanks to @shashachu, I shall soon have all the parts needed to start the build. With the coin shipping getting close to done, and the Mando and Grogu movie troops out of the way, I should hopefully be able to start building very soon. Thanks again to everyone that has offered to help! I may still call upon you for your assistance as I move through this build.

First off, welcome to FISD! We hope your build goes well and we look forward to having you join our ranks. Next I will warn you that 3D printing Stormtrooper armor, while possible, is a lot of work, and there are better ways to do it. With that said, while Jason ( @BigJasoni ) is no longer a member of the legion, his work lives on and his build thread is the bases that many members who go down this rabbit hole start with. I wish you nothing but luck! As a 3D printer myself, I considered this route, but after the filling and sanding and filling and sanding and filling and sanding, I just bought a vacform kit. I look forward to seeing you succeed where I could not. James

What I have So Far
jsilvius replied to SpiderTom37's topic in TK Pre-Approval Questions & Discussion
I'll echo what @Sly11 said, the holster is wrong for this version of the TK, as shown in the CRL, the ANH stunt uses this holster, which is attached to the back side of the belt via Chicago screws, and is required for approval. You can pick this holster up from several different vendors, or possible even ask Shepperton Design Studios if they sent you the incorrect version, if you could swap it out with them. You back armor (backplate, kidney and butt plate) should ideally not overlap each other. They should butt up to each other or have small gap (specifically the kidney and butt plate). That may just be adjustment of some straps. Compare your image with the screen shot of the movie. The edge of the shoulder bell should be covering the top of the bicep. In some of your pictures it is, in others it isn't, which leads me to think it is free floating, I might also suggest attaching your bicep to your shoulder bell in order to secure it in place. Tony ( @ukswrath ) does a really good job showing how he did this in his build thread. Looking forward to seeing you put in place some updates to your armor so we can help get you approved and out there trooping. With Unquestioned Loyalty, TK-12953 aka James -

This is great @Nairy! I've been looking for something to replace imgur and Flickr wasn't cutting it. Thanks for sharing, I'll have to try it out.

Added another part to check off of my list of items. I still have to print a few things, and work with a very kind offer from another member to secure a few missing pieces. Hopefully I'll get this build going in the next few weeks.

We are up to 40 members that have donated. We have raised $498.94 of the $928.12 needed. So we have $429.18 left to go. If you haven't donated yet, please consider doing so. And please make a note in the PayPal notes that it is for the forum. I'm receiving payments for coin shipping and patch orders as well, so having a note telling me what the money is for saves me some headaches. Thank you, James

My argument has been if Stormtrooper shaped, why isn't it FISD. But it seems that MEPD has grabbed anything that is dirty, and SpecOps has grabbed anything that isn't white.
-
Thanks Greg, I'll wait it out until you get the everything sorted. I appreciate the hard work!

I was actually lucky enough to get 2 of them. My wife and I were visiting her folks in Illinois, and we stopped at the local Walmart to grab some supplies and there were two in the display, so I grabbed one for myself and one for my son.
-
Amazing! 2 questions. 1. How do I get the updates? 2. Any further thoughts on slicing them to fit the 256x256 bed plates of the newer printers like the Bambu P1S and Elegoo Centauri?
-
So watching a few videos and looking at some other build threads and comparing them to what I have, I can see that I'm missing a few part. I'm missing the knees and the lower back/kidney plate. So it looks like I'm going to have to aquire those piece before I can proceed. That's a bit disappointing.
-
Thank you for that! I'll definitely check it out. If you've got extra, I'm happy to grab it. Just shoot me a dm or email and let me know what I owe you.

Awesome! Thank you @gmrhodes13

Thank you for that. I was looking to see if there were any good youtube videos of builds. I'll add this to my watch list as well.
