  1. I only use styrene because it's all I can get in my area. My rule of thumb is that if it gets painted anyway, it doesn't matter as long as the plastic is at least 090 thick. How thick is your plastic, Jim?
  2. good god man that was fast! Did you visit the links I posted? Hope this helps.
  3. I'm sorry but I just can't let people walk away with this notion. High Impact Poly Styrene (HIPS or Styrene) vac forms very well, in lower temperatures when compared to other plastics, such as ABS (Acylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), which is a different soup altogether. But please don't take my word for it; check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Styreneand https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylonitrile_butadiene_styrene they are both good reds and you will find the specs therein.
  4. I believe they retooled the chest and back, and that the Shim was left untouched, leaving it larger. That's why it fits over the outside of the retooled parts.
  5. I would like to post pictures of the second wave TFA build I am working on, but it is not my armor. I can say that the second wave was quite a bit different from the first. It looks like some of their molds were reworked. This made some parts difficult to match up to the parts from the original. It also looks like they recast their stuff in order to have molds to rework, which makes parts a bit smaller, making them even harder to line up with originals. The first wave kit was definitely an easier build. If you have any questions about specific parts, post them in this forum. It will pick up!
  6. I'm afraid the current status is contrary to our moniker; "Troopers helping troopers". I have faith that this will be rectified soon.
  7. They are easy enough to cast. I should do a run of them so all the troopers have replacements.
  8. Love the video! Thanks for posting that. I had trouble coming up with the right tint for various alien mask eyeballs. That's the ticket!
  9. I would love to see your progress, but you wont catch me on facebook. Please take the time to upload your progress here. Your thread will forever be easy to access, and it will be highly appreciated by the FISD community.
  10. Do you have a good hi-res photo of the Dizny fabric? We have a few textile places in Seattle I could check out.
  11. Correct. All we can do is hope to find a match. I asked anvose why they used a fabric that wasn't even close and I was told that they wanted to use something that "looks cool and is available". They did ask me what the difference was, stating that "black fabric was black fabric. They also asked me if I was an "uber accuracy nerd". They obviously had no idea who they were dealing with when they went into business with the legion.
  12. The fabric that I found was a match to the anvos fabric, but it did not match up to the fabric in the TFA room. I asked the guys at the anovos booth and they told me that Dizney had their own custom textiles produced. Same with the gloves.
  13. I found an exact match to the fabric that anvos used. It was at Hancock Fabric, in Tacoma WA. I bought the bolt. I also ordered a case of White Eagle gloves. Once in Anaheim, face to face with the real-deal, I felt very foolish. But who is more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?
  14. very funny. Best for the NCO club I might add.
  15. great work! And a cute baby:)
  16. Great thread! One thing that stumps me is this photo. The suit that I built didn't have enough flashing for this mod.
  17. I'll be one cool FN stormtrooper!
  18. The kit comes with a parts list, but there are no instructions. In fact, I've never seen a plastic armor kit that comes with instructions. You can, however, find lots of help here on the forums from people that have built them.
  19. I've never heard of mat finish ABS, neither has my plastics distributor.
  20. Do you agree with the MSDS in that they have not changed from ABS to HIPS?
  21. There is also a liquid truck bed liner. I urge caution, as I've have seen these soften and warp thin plastic.
  22. The chest and ab are thick and high in detail. All of the smaller parts are thin, the TD is a lot thinner. I didn't see all of the parts yet, but it looks like all of the high mileage parts are thicker.
  23. I started trimming out another ANOVOS TFA kit last night and I couldn't help but notice the change in plastic. This kit has a lot thinner plastic for lots of the parts. I'm talking too thin for trooping. It also looks as though they have swapped out ABS for HIPS. I didn't inspect all of the parts, but the ones that I did inspect were all polystyrene. The first TFA that I built, from the first wave was all thick ABS. The new kit weighs about half of that. I never heard that ANOVOS was changing plastic, so if they mentioned it already, I missed it.
