Right, but what Paul was saying was this just happened because they were running around in this scene--not because this was planned how their armor should be arranged. In the Luke surrenders scene, the ab doesn't look over chest to me. Looks to me just like the trim on ROTJ armor at the bottom of the chest piece.

Some more observations about the original pictures. Some parts of these almost look like FX armor, especially the very rounded tops of the shoulder bells, the overlap of the back and kidneys, and the strap connecting the chest and the back. Other stuff like the narrow cod piece, I've never seen before. And, the drop box stuck in the thigh armor is just funny.

Glad I could help. You will find tons of great info on these forums. I also noticed that you mentioned rivets. Another suggestion is to start with the provided bolts and nuts during the build and only rivet it at the very end. You can see that mentioned in Gaz's thread. This allows you to still take the helmet apart if you want to before you are finally done, which I did a couple of times. I only riveted at the end once I was completely happy with all my trimming. In the end, the rivets in the helmet are going to be completely hidden, so don't worry about what type they are--pop rivets are just fine. Just one last suggestion, if you look at some of the centurion submissions, I think you will find you'll want to take a little more out of the teeth of the frown. You're getting a great start! Just follow the best advice from everyone: GO SLOW. Look at the different tutorials and refer to all the great examples of builds and completed helmets here on the forum.

Brian, your ATA kit comes with two sets of stunt ears. They both have four bumps. Terrell knows that ears are the items people screw up the most, so he includes a second set just in case you make a mistake on your first. (Thank you, Terrell!) Ears have completely different right and left curves. In this earlier post (http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/34537-gaanons-first-build/?p=449751), the ear covers on the left are for the right side of the helmet (if you are wearing it) and the set on the right is for the left side of the helmet (if you are wearing it.) yes, they look different from each other around the bump area, but remember the original ANH helmets were not symetrical. There are a lot of tutorials on this forum that can help you with your build. Gazmosis' one on the ATA helmet has a lot of tips that can save you from little errors. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/28633-howto-ata-helmet-build-hand-painted-details-pic-heavy/There are many other great ones, too.

I really like having fans in my helmet. It makes the helmet way more comfortable to me.<br><br> I just got Echo's set for my new helmet and absolutely love it. It is a great setup, looks good, and personalized option adds a really nice touch. <br><br> Note that Echo said he's taking some time off over the holidays from building.

R2-KT appears for several seconds when Poe and Finn great each other. Look behind Poe, just behind/underneath his X-wing moving from left to right. Also, outside of Maz Kanata's base, one of the troopers reports on the radio as "TK-338."

Really nice, clean build! But, I think your boots look a little too much like toes for approval.

I'm down to the last steps on my helmet. I need to do the final trim of the bottom lip and bottom ear covers. I've seen many various trims here. Are there any good suggestions for the best trim off the bottom of the ATA helmet? Picture of my helmet is below. --------- One other issue. I made a poor decision about the assembly at the bottom and placed the bottom screw on the right side so it would hold the edges together well. This put it into a slightly bad position. Would it be better to leave the screw where it is or does it look lame enough that I should move the screw and try to fill the old hole and carefully paint it? (No way I'm reshaping the ear covers from scratch again!) --------- (Nevermind the too-short brow trim. New one just arrived from Trooperbay and I'm recutting that tonight.) Thanks for any advice the community can share!

I thought I'd come back here and give an update on what I did. Based on your feedback, I knew I was really close. Measuring and carefully comparing the look of both sides and looking for any of the original mold lines that I may have missed I decided to remove up to 1.5 mm off of the very edge of the left eye socket and tapering down to the remaining. Below are the pics of what I marked to remove and the results. I'm very happy with how it came out. Thanks again for everyone's advice. ---------

Trooperbay Down? + Tear question

Echo has posted in this thread that he's out of rivets and taking a break from selling them. -
I ordered an E-11. This is a really amazing price for a hyperfirm. Discounts off everything on the site, too, so good time to get small things you may need.

Thanks everyone, this is all great advice and really helpful. Thanks. I'll check to see if I missed the lines and I'll take the outer top edge down a little more. By the way, your tutorials on the helmet and the ears helped me out a lot. Thanks a ton for sharing your tips. Even though I was so careful, I picked up gaps when putting the final screws in. But I take solace in this part of your tutorial and accept it as it is: "First and most important thing to remember is the the ears on the original helmets were FAR from perfect." Great idea to smooth out the burrs. I think I'd planned to do that and never remembered to get back to it. More generally, it's great to get the positive comments on this board. Everyone is very supportive on these boards. I think it's a little nerve wracking to put my own personal work up here for review when there are so many awesome examples that are way better than mine. To post and get encouragement rather than criticism, helps a lot. I'm really glad for these boards and the spirit of working together that everyone has.

So, I'm building my first ATA helmet and these boards have been tons of help! Now I've run into something that I can't seem to find a definitive answer to. How deep should the eye sockets be? I've cut right along the lines in the ATA helmet eye sockets, but looking at all the photos online, I can't tell if this is the right size and shape to keep the sockets or not. Should I cut them down more or leave them as they are now? I'm sorry if this is already answered somewhere that I just haven't found. Any advice is greatly appreciated. ----------

By the way, what is the point of the velcro under the holster attachment? Anyone know? Is the belt going to velcro to the armor at that point?

Boot opinions please?

Why do you have to paint Imperial boots? The white they have is not good?
