FernixBix Requesting Pre Approval Review (CFO-ROTJ)
sskunky replied to FernixBix's topic in Request TK Pre-Approval
The helmet is fine. Not sure what anyone thinks is wrong with the construction but it’s assembled like my original. The brow trims were nearly all very low. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I can help you on that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well done. That didn’t look an easy task. CFO ears would have been an easy fit but there you go. Looks great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Was Studio Armor Different From Location Armor?
sskunky replied to Folgore's topic in ROTJ Stormtrooper
I would think the helmet liners were installed in the uk as the came from a climbing helmet made in Wales uk. They were re-strapped by the costume dept with the black webbing you see in the liner. They were also used in the uk filmed scenes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

You could be getting confused between ESB mkii which you have pictured and true ROTJ. The ESB mkii were probably made for promotional work but we do know of one or two that slipped into production and used in the freezing chamber scene. The ESB mkii were also made using pinseal/Haircell abs whereas ROTJ were made in smooth abs. ESB mkii used foam in the helmets and ROTJ used a suspension liner from an old climbing helmet. Is it a working version? I have a working one that’s great fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi Sorry late to the party. If you have my old armour the overlaps were as the armour was when it was moulded from the original set. Which was quite tight. As a lot of people had issues getting it to fit I extended the run offs so there’s more to play with. Have you got a pic of the backs of your shins? I can’t guarantee an exact match as the colour and gloss varies from batch to batch. That will be the same with whoever you go with unless you go with acrylic capped. (Which I hate) There’s no point in matching old armour together as it’s different nearly every time. Not a lot but there wil

I get that. It’s just frustrating that everytime I make or sell a suit I get people quoting the CRL at me which is incorrect. This has been an issue for years and years. It’s not a new development. I don’t understand how it’s so hard for someone to set accurate standards and use accurate pics to support those standards. Why does it take years? This is not a legal document it’s a standard for grown men or women running around in white plastic! It’s clearly a power struggle. [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why don’t you have a pic of a proper ROTJ armour and helmet in the CRL? The shoulder straps pictured are wrong. Level three says you cannot have overlap? That’s how rotj we’re constructed. They should not be butt joined with a cover strip? What that implies is that to be top level you have to construct it wrong! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Recaster Alert: Makerofthings! has recast my R1TK
sskunky replied to jimmiroquai's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
He’s been recasting me for years. I’ve just noticed he is back on eBay selling recasted rotj armour and helmets as well as RS armour etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Hi guys I would appreciate you reporting this guy to eBay if you get a couple of minutes. He’s recast my armour and blatantly lying about its source. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-Return-of-the-Jedi-Armor-Kit/302999662958?_mwBanner=1&ul_ref=https%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F0%2F0%2F0%3Fmpre%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.com%252Fulk%252Fitm%252F302999662958%26rvr_id%3D0%26rvr_ts%3Df96de7a81670a99be2f359b9ffdb8f79&ul_noapp=true&pageci=ba7cac9d-e260-4f03-a6e1-3a5e1e1ad824 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Failing miserably at making ABS paste

Just saw Harbingers post. Basically the same but I use a solvent made for the job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Use liquid solvent cement or “Plastic Weld” get a small screw top bottle or pot and cut up small pieces of abs, fill the pot, then pour the solvent into the pot. Put the lid on and leave over night it a day or two. Done. I’ve been making it this way for years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
What were the movie costumes genuinely made of?
sskunky replied to thaynes's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
As far as I’m aware the Sds ANH suits were made of an abs from a company called Union tyres. Essentially a tyre company but started making sheet abs in the 70’s. They were based in Acton. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

As far as I know the ESB mkii suits were made in a pinseal/Hair cell and and rotj in smooth ABS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Awesome job. Looks fantastic.

I echo what others have already said. Nicely done. Be interested to see how this holds up to trooping.

I built one out of Polycarbonate roofing sheets. Cut to shape with a jigsaw. I purchased a filter and a extraction fan etc and built it around that. It works a treat. I really recommend a booth or you’ll be at the mercy of the weather and paint dust!

POLL: What glue have you tried, what actually works
sskunky replied to Daetrin's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
??? This wasn’t a dig at you or a competition about how long you’ve been assembling armour. I was just correcting some wrong information on a link you provided backed up with some experience. I’ll just keep quiet in future as you obviously know more than me as you’ve been doing this for so long. -

sskunky replied to Daetrin's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Not as accurate as it should be and take it as a rough guide. For instance if you are using a liquid solvent as I do then saying “One disadvantage with this glue is that there is only a very limited time to assemble the parts after applying it. There must also be a good contact between the surfaces to be joined as this is definately not a gap-filler. “ Is wrong. The parts are supposed to be clamped together before applying the liquid. It work through a capillary action then welds the parts together. I’ve found this the cleanest fastest and strongest way to glue abs. I’ve been making and as -
I hope you’ve got extraction and a good face mask. 2K is killer otherwise. Good choice for finish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

His armour is cast from two modified ESB mkii suits. And not originals as he borrowed two vendors suits and basically recast them. Hence the overlaps and differences between ANH and his.
