Oh of course - the other option is Blender - also open source and free. Actually go with that - bit more of a learning curve but a better result.

Most 3D programs will import Vector art for extrusion, but probably your best bet is Google SketchUp for a simple job like this because it's free! SketchUp can import Adobe Illustrator files in the for of AutoCAD Drawing (.dwg) or AutoCAD Interchange (.dxf) file formats. So it's just a matter of saving the aart in the right format. You will obviously have to make sure all your parts are separate, extrude them and reassemble them in sketch up - otherwise you'll end with a mess extruding the entire graphic...

How does it fit if you slide it in from the muzzle end instead? It could be that your pipe has been distorted a little or perhaps the wall thickness of the pipe is too much and so the inner diameter is too tight for the outer diameter of the bolt? Whatever you do don't hit the resin with a hammer! You'd be better off to sand down the bolt a bit to make it fit better.
-
No need to drill it at all - it will be completely covered by the glued on stock. If you're using 40mm tube (which the doopy doo's is designed for) then it should sit pretty flush after this adjustment.
-
Hi John! It's not fitting because you've got the folding stock sitting way too far back. This bit here: Is supposed to sit forward of the muzzle like this: That's why it's sitting so high instead of flush on the pipe surface. That larger hole is for the folding stock clip, you are correct, however this spring clip is well under the folding stock mid section and is not present on the doopy doos kit. Since this bit doesn't exist on the resin kit you don't need to worry about it. It's for functional folding stocks only. Are you using 40mm or 38.1mm pipe for this build?

First TK.......Feedback Please.....

Looking damn good if you ask me. The only thing I see is the elbows of your undersuit being a little baggy - maybe get something tighter there. Pretty tiny thing on such a great suit though - looks like you're the perfect proportions for a TK too! -
Looking good Sean! Nice work bending the front sight to shape. There should also be a tiny little stick in the envelope that goes in the selector switch base to insert it into the trigger assembly so the selector switch can move. It sure is gratifying to see my trigger fits the doopy doos like a glove! I made that trigger shape from photos so I'm reassured now... PM on its way shortly regarding your other parts being on the way

Is there something wrong with me that I find this one of the most interesting conversations I've ever read online?

Good catch Andy - 8.5mm really doesn't make any sense does it? I'll fix that error immediately. I think it came from a misunderstanding on my part from this pic of the measurements of the inner barrel: I think I took that 8.5mm line out of context and made it the barrel hole without thinking - this is a 9mm gun! I'm using Adobe Illustrator to create the templates and using the 3D > Extrude and Bevel function to turn those into the 3D Illustrations. If you don't have it or are unsure just ask or send me the 2D templates and I'll whip up the 3D diagrams no worries. That 27/64 came from the measurement of 10.7mm for the barrel holes which (as I understand it) is more accurate than the 11.11mm of the BBC templates. I looked up on the internet which imperial drill bit was precisely 10.7mm and that was the answer according to the chart. Which is equal to 6.74 over 16 anyways so it's a barely noticeable difference. Unless .6 of an inch diameter difference will drive you crazy I think you'll be ok!

Great work - you went right in and tackled the hardest one by far, but you got great results. Nice job

Nice work on the M-19! Good job with the metal folding stock too - very clean metal work. What did you use to cut the aluminium? Just the dremel cutting wheel? -
This an exciting thread - I know it's come up before but we're really making progress in the research here. As Vern just said to me - it's an exciting time in the TK world!

Wow This is post number 666 for me, so I was trying to save it for Halloween but this is just too cool to ignore! Awesome find Mathias - this will come in handy for internal mechanism builds and templates. Plus if anyone wants to build a functional trigger mechanism or spring loaded folding stock this would be a nifty guide. I had no idea the spring went so deep in the stock support. Or that the magazine went into the barrel that far. Great shot of the metal texture too - I'm glad Sean put me on to that Hammered spray paint it looks just like it. Sure wish I had a spare $1,400 to pick that up Well since I blew my "devil's Post" for Halloween I might as well put up my outer grip template work while I'm at it. Those of you who are used to the other templates will find this a strange way of putting the grip together, but the other templates only build solid grips. This way ensures a hollow grip you can assemble using the other templated grip parts just like it was supposed to be. Plus I've provided general measurements anyway so if you don't wanna do it this way you can still get enough info for a solid grip build, or any other way you sit fit to put it together. Once again I've also done my best to match fonts as closely as possible: As you can see it will require some body filler to complete sanding that back will help perfect the shaping too... This - Ladies and gentlemen - is in fact the completion of Version 1.0 of the new templates! This is the entire exterior of the Sterling. Version 1.1 will include the internal set up, but pending a few things here and there I will be posting a complete booklet shortly. I'm putting the booklet together in PDF form as it will hold print size accuracy much better than JPG's. I'll make a new thread for that though so people don't have to trawl through ten pages of posts to find them. Meanwhile let's keep this thread open for more research!

Trying my hand at scratch build E-11
ZeroRoom replied to TD-4395's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Expandable Spray foam for sure. Look for something like this: It's light weight and sands very very easily. You can sculpt this stuff into practically enything. Hope this helps -
That's an AP kit, which is great and that's a pretty good price (at the current bid). Depending in how high it goes you might get a bargain. However it's been built to someone else's body size and you can easily get a great unassembled AP set direct from the maker if you look around the boards here. Besides the fact that it will fit you perfectly, you can trust that AP is on the vetted sellers list here and so is much less of a risk than eBay can be at times. Plus then you get the fun and satisfaction do working on your own kit - you don't wanna miss out on that!

The weathering you've done on this look fantastic Rolf. What have you used for the copper undercoat on the sight? Have you just added the copper scratching or have you actually scratched the black back and been able to keep the copper?

Hi Steve, Only the admins can modify the topic titles as far as I know. You could put in a request for the change you need and I can fix it up for you. Otherwise give me a link and the new title you want

He says in the listing it's movie Fx but I don't think so - check out the whacky thermal detonator. It's also a cast so soft it looks like its been sculpted with whipped cream. That is also one hell of a crazy looking blaster I'm always tempted to use the 'ask the seller' a question field to call these people out - but that would make me lower than people who post under videos on you tube..l.

Whoa there - I understand what a contentious issue this can be and how feelings are always going to be strong with an issue like this but let's simmer down the cheap shots. It's a delicate matter for those not directly affected by a tragic event like this to intervene in any way, staff or not. It is less of a forum staff or non staff issue and more of a social agreement in general that memorialization of those passed should be left to those who feel the loss the keenest in order to maintain some level of dignity and taste. I lost my best friend last year and both myself and his family were extremely angered to see the amount of people who did not know him at all posting "memorials" on Facebook and other places around the Internet in what amounts to 'tragedy tourism'. This can be received in different ways by different people, but the feeling that people are voyeuristicly associating themselves with what is a very painful and personal loss for you can be offensive to some. For this reason alone we should all be careful about how we deal with recognizing the passing of someone we were not close too. This makes it tricky for places like FISD - the honor needs bestowing, but grIeving is not a cheap post on the net. In my own experience last year, for example, we were experiencing something private and painful and the public displaying of it on the Internet only added to that hurt. Had those of us closely affected by the tragedy chosen to use the Internet to memorialize my friend the case would have been different. It is important that the decision as to when and where to remember a loved one is left to those to whom the tragedy of death is the most impactful. If anyone close to the person wishes to start a memorial thread or similar that is excellent and they are sure to receive many sympathetic thoughts from the community here, but it is not, and should not be, the prerogative of those who are not involved.
