  2. Hey, we won an award! Here's the email we got from the chamber... "Congratulations! your entry has won a trophy in your category! We will present the trophies on Sunday afternoon, January 3, 2016 at 2:00 at the Visitor's Center. Please be present, or have someone come in your place to receive your award. We want to make sure that we get pictures of all of our winners! Thanks and Merry Christmas! -- Pamela Alford Secretary 96 Chamber of Commerce" Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  3. Today, we had the awesome privilege of ringing the bell for the Salvation Army of Greenwood, SC at a local Walmart. For a Thursday morning from 10-12, we had a lot of interaction with the public. When we arrived, Walmart was kind enough to allow us to change in a fitting room. Many employees stopped by to take pictures before we could leave the store. We got outside about a half hour early and set up the kettle stand. A steady stream of people, mostly families with small children, stopped by to take pictures. People started giving donations before the kettle arrived. Finally, the officer from the Salvation Army arrived with the kettle, bells, and aprons. The public responded very enthusiastically to our presence, especially the "older kids" (aka grown-ups). The local newspaper dropped by with a photographer and reporter. They took lots of pictures, and I gave a short interview. Hopefully, we will be in tomorrow's paper. Hundreds of pictures were taken, we got to talk to a few people about the Legion, but most important of all, we were able to raise money for a worthy charity.
  4. Disclaimer: No actual armor was harmed in the making of this video...
  5. Still trying to find a few pictures. Here's a couple I found on Facebook. Here's our group photo, buckets off. 501st members are TK-71063 (second from left) and me, TK-14082 (between Vader and Leia). The weather was beautiful, about 50F. Perfect for a stroll in white armor! We were probably the only group that people stopped to take pictures with us. One lady asked where we bought those costumes. I told her we made them. She said, "No, you did not make those." LOL I'll get more pictures and post them later. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  6. This will be the second year we will participate in the Christmas parade in my hometown of Ninety Six (the first as official 501st members). We were told the theme for the parade would be "A Star Spangled Christmas", I assume a patriotic celebration of the holiday season. Our group will (of course) feature two 501st stormtroopers and assorted non-501st costumed characters. It seems interest in our group is growing and we hope to guide them to eventually join the Legion. The parade will be this Saturday, December 5th at 11:00am. Pleasant weather is expected. In keeping with this year's theme, this will be the 9' x 6' banner preceding us... Stay tuned... Pictures of the event to be posted later!
  7. I have never been able to find an acceptable substitute at Lowe's or Home Depot. The only place I know to get them is from Seals Direct in the UK. Brow trim is US52, neck trim is SWR149. http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.asp?intDepartmentId=4
  8. Thanks, Joseph. I think the armor is ready, but I still have some work to do on the blaster before it's EIB ready. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  9. Thanks for reminding me. Special thanks to Kyle and Lisa Neal, who acted as our photographers and handlers.
  10. My first official troop with the 501st, the midnight release of Star Wars: Battlefront at GameStop in Greenwood, SC. We were there from 7:00 until a little after midnight. We posed for many pictures and answered questions about joining the Legion. 501st members in attendance were: TK-14082, TK-71063, and TI-3855. Between the time when families with children came early and the actual midnight release of the game, we had a little down time and decided to make an appearance at Lowes which was next door. After all, we needed building materials for a new Death Star. While we were trooping through, someone came on over the intercom and said, ā€œMay the force be with you...ā€ And of course, we had to stop for pictures with fans. By 11:30 there was a line around the GameStop store of people waiting to take Battlefront home. All in all, a GREAT first official troop!
  11. The family that slays (rebels) together, stays together! (Left to right) Daughter, grandson, son-in-law, me and my wife. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  12. At one point, the main camera battery died. While it was recharging, Mrs. TK-14082 and I posed for this photo against the green screen. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  13. Here's TK-71063 and his date. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  14. This was our church's Halloween carnival we do for the community every year. This year, we had a green screen and photo processing software. TK-71063 and I posed with kids and families for about 2-1/2 hours. It was great! Here's a photo of Darth Vader and us taking a moment from slaughtering rebels aboard the Tantive IV to pose with Princess Leia and her family. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  15. My wife named our wi-fi connection "Alderaan". She couldn't connect to it this evening. We found out later our daughter had unplugged the router. Anyway, when I scanned for the connection with my phone, this is what I saw... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  16. Selector switch turned out well, I think. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  17. It's really not that hard. The first one may be a little intimidating, but then you see it was no big deal after all. Trimming the ears is probably the only part that might really frustrate you. I think many kits include two pairs for that reason. Find a good tutorial on this site.
  18. OK, What you see in the picture at the top of this thread is not an optical illusion. After applying a template and drilling, I noticed something wasn't quite right with the tube. I rolled it across the table and it wobbled. Sure enough, there was a slight curve to the tube. No way I'm using this one. I may try another set from a different manufacturer, but I'm sure straightness in not a primary consideration for what this kind of pipe is used for. Maybe I'll get lucky. We'll see. If not, I'll probably bite the bullet and go with 1-1/4" EMT conduit. Same dimensions, but steel. I don't favor that, so keep your fingers crossed.
  19. Thanks, I thought adhesion might be a problem. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  20. It would probably look even better if I extended the ab as well, putting the joint closer to the middle of my side. Eventually, I will probably do this. Always looking for ways to improve. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  21. Thanks. There is no seam. It's all one piece. I vacuum formed the kidney plate with the sides extended. There is a return edge on the top and bottom that is blended with the edge that was already there. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
