was that one 64$ sheet all you needed for your whole armor set? Have a total styrene estimate? I'm not finding another thread that gave accurate estimates for making your own armor.

I found a local plastic supply, but they only have 12" x 12" sheets of styrene. Is that too small for vacuforming helmet molds? Or body molds? Would anyone know what size styrene sheets I would need to get to vacuform? I am trying to figure out prices to figure out my budgeting for my armor build.

I am not yet a member, but am looking to make my own molds, vacuform table, and pull my own stuff as cheaply as possible. I am looking at the armor kit prices, and styrene prices.... Could anyone quote what it cost them to make their own molds, and styrene? If I do it myself I am not seeing the average 550$ for the armor and helmet. I've done enough sculpture to feel confident in this. But am currently trying to figure out budgeting before I begin. I figured I'd start with the white armor prices when made from scratch and go from there.

I see, also I've learned the thickness adds to the price. Thus I now understand why stormtrooper armor is so dang expensive, even when made yourself. I'm still researching this stuff so I can save enough money to justify the purchase. No matter how hard I try to save cash, the project seems to be way pricey. Making the molds, vacuform table, all of fit is doable for me but justifying the money. Can't do 1k on this build..... The white armor styrene would have to be found at a deal for me... Hmm, well, I will keep pondering and looking. Maybe if I can get the hook up.

Why is it that everyone uses HIPS over regular styrene sheets? It looks to be 10x cheaper. I've worked with the stuff before, but not for vacuforming. Does it not mold well? It seems tough enough to me. What's the deal?
