That was my assessment as well. Look at the right shin - it's composed of two outer pieces. Be it a 3D scan, a casting, or whatever - unless there are other suits out there that are built like that, that detail in and of itself is signature RS. Perhaps any original sculpts they did were parts that did not come with the original RS suit (sniper plate, ab button box, etc.)? Besides that, I'm a bit leery of this new-fangled internal strapping system. So I'm taking a wait-and-see approach. But since I'll be at C7 this week, you can bet I'll be taking as close a look as I can.

Sizing concerns for a weightlifter
tkrestonva replied to Brandon's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I have the same issue and concern as you. I'd love to get a TM, but I'm concerned that it won't work unless I put large shims in the arms and legs. Further, if you've been doing a lot of chest, back, and shoulder work, unless you do some very creative mods to the chest plate, shoulder bells, and backplate, you can expect to have some sizeable gaps at the shoulders. I would take some flexed measurements, send them to TM and/or RS, and see what they say. Once they get back to you, please post the answers here. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -

Yeah. He's a notorious one. Haven't seen that name in a while and was hoping he had faded off into obscurity. Sorry to hear it, Mark.

This topic probably belongs more in the NCO Club than in the hard armor section. Although I would never use a cover of Mad Magazine as reference material for costume building, it does makes me wonder ... how much of the new look did they get right? For instance, the highly visible seams in the biceps and forearms ... is that accurate to the screen-used suits?

RS Propmasters On Bigger Frames
tkrestonva replied to FNGmacaroni's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
The (non-FX/AM) buckets are pretty much the same size, although the width of the opening is dependent on how you trim/build it. As for the armor itself, the standard line around here is that any armor can be made to fit any physique. Yes, RS will take your measurements and build you a suit. The disclaimer (or at least MY disclaimer) is that at your size, you are going to have to live with some compromises. By "compromises" I mean there is no way you are going to look like a guy who is 5'9", 160lbs, and skinny. You will have a TON of black undersuit showing at the knees, hips, waist (depending on your waist size) upper and mid-back, shoulders, and elbows, and your cover strips that bind the clamshell halves of the arms and legs together will be quite large. -
Planning on it.

Kevin, how did you assemble the arms and legs? Did you do it TK-style (cover strips), or clone-style (seamless), and why? -

Ericia's ANH Walt80 Kid build
tkrestonva replied to aicire's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The problem I have is that I had her try on an RS helmet this past weekend and she looked like a bobblehead - the helmet literally went from shoulder to shoulder on her. I shudder to think what an FX helmet would have looked like on her. She didn't even need to do the side twist to put it on, and helmets (especially screen-accurate like RS - and this one came preassembled by Rob and Si) tend to run one-size fits all. So I was looking for other options. -

Woah. I've been away for a while so I didn't know that Walt had actually moved into armor production with this project ... excellent. @Walt - I know of a very small woman (~5'1", 100lbs) who would kill for a set of TK armor sized to her. Could she fit this? -
I know exactly how you feel, Lucas. I'm just now getting back in myself. Life ...um, yeah. And yes, I've missed ALL of you. It's good to be able to come home.

I think there was a poll done here a couple of years ago, and it showed that the average trooper is in his or her late 30s to early 40s. Makes sense given what I've seen around the Legion, and because most people who are just starting out in life (late teens or early 20s) simply don't have the gobs of disposable cash that this hobby seemingly requires.

Recently obtained armor with an interesting history...
tkrestonva replied to kennyo21361's topic in eBay Armor
I also suggest you find a local armor party where you can get some hands-on advice. Although you are technically in Old Line Garrison's territory (D.C. & Maryland), there is nothing to say that you cannot also reach out to local members of Garrison Tyranus (VA). We have armor parties here in Northern VA averaging once a month - in fact, our next armor party is on 23 Jun at a member's house in Annandale. -
How exactly do you "fit" the armor?
tkrestonva replied to Deadghosty's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
Option 2 is better, just like Phil said. Having a cover strip that doesn't completely (or nearly so) cover the ridge just looks odd, IMO. The key words are "appropriate sized" and "approximate". In the end, you do what works best for your body while still being as faithful as possible to the costume's intended shapes and sizes. There a few of us who have larger-than-screen-accurate limbs. So it's a problem that has been addressed and resolved repeatedly. As far as cover strips and 501st standards go, the basic CRL neither requires nor addresses them (and IMO we are a LONG way from that happening) so no worries there. I'm one of those guys with a chronic gym habit. My biceps currently measure about 17 inches flexed - and you definitely want them fitted to your flexed measurements. I've been lifting weights for the past 25 years, and even at 43 years old I have the physique to prove it. And despite being considerably larger than screen-accurate, I wouldn't change a thing. Being a large trooper adds to the intimidation factor. -

Agreed. You can take a lot of that off. It will be more comfortable and more accurate. -
Broken Shoulder Strap (Plastic) (AP)
tkrestonva replied to 27555's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
As a temporary fix, wrap the break in white duct tape. Suprisingly enough, very few people will notice and it'll hold together until you can get a replacement. A garrison mate of mine has been trooping with this "temporary" fix for a couple of years now, and only a few people - all of them being fellow garrison members and/or handlers who help her get in and out of her kit - have even noticed. -

Does E-6000 really, honestly melt armor?
tkrestonva replied to bigtrev503's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Melting with ABS cement = absolutely Melting with E6000 = never experienced it, not even once. Since it's a contact cement and isn't designed to fuse plastic, I'm not even sure how that could happen. -

New NE Armor Arrived Yesterday!
tkrestonva replied to HeyItsAdam's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Woot!! I'm on the Run #2 list. After 2 1/2 years in my current kit, I'm due for an upgrade. I still need to get an up close look, but this looks like it'll definitely be my next kit. Glad to see the accurate details (look at the ab plate!!) and to hear that it looks like it'll have plenty of room for us bigger guys. -
Great lineup, boss.
