  1. Not worth $200 in my opinion. Fiberglass is heavy for a TK helmet and not accurate. You can get a ATA kit for $140 or so within a week or two and build it yourself or get a well built one with proper lineage for around $250 or so. It will look quite a bit nicer then this one as well, which just looks wrong.
  2. It looks like the original owner trimmed the right one too much. So for approval, technically, yes I would think this will not pass. It is really up to the GMO who looks at the approval, they might miss the detail if the whole suit together looks ok and they overlook it. But this isn't the right way and a new thigh would be required to be in the correct way.
  3. Completely agree. The MR just doesn't look right. You can get some helmet kits or built helmets around from good makers which also look clean and nicely done. Look into a TM helmet kit, he will even do a build for you, it will look fantastic! PM TrooperMaster here.
  4. Thats up to you! I would say it has a semi collectors value inside the community, but nothing beyond that besides being a TK helmet. The yellowing on the sides is really a shame but sadly not much do do about that. You could take it apart and polish the yellowing out potentially as long as it was built in a way that allows for it to be taken apart vs glued together.
  5. The armor when built and fitted right is still approvable. The kit is one of the early fan sculpts of ANH armor.
  6. Thats the surprise. I will wait to chime in on my sales thread once I pull the first casting out after work and see if my mold was ok.
  7. So here is a teaser picture for people to try and figure out what I'm updating. One item is a reshaping of an existing piece due to the new pipes. The second one is the real surprise though. It is a very needed update to the parts in the kit, replacing a badly inaccurate part with a part that is the ultimate level of accuracy. So lets use those eyes for detail and see if you can see what I see inside the silicone.
  8. The source material for the approval of the helmet can't be the comic, since the helmet in the KW kit is lightyears away from the one seen in the comic. So I'm looking for detailed shots of the GG helmet since thats what the kit helmet is based from.
  9. Ian, I'm estimating that about mid 2015 I will have a system in place with my kits that will completely redefine how we do the front sight in kits. The sights I have now are something that I am not completely happy with. The lack of texture on the sight guard does bug me and I'm glad I am not the only one. It will force me to keep moving up and improving these kits.
  10. Ok, anyone who has the GG statue, can you take me some detail shots of the helmet, front, sides and back? I'd like to paint it right and like basing my work on the source material and not what others have done. Thanks!
  11. The Legacy Female Trooper (Jes Gistang) is a comic book EU trooper. Then Gentle Giant made a figure of the only female trooper ever known to exist, cause girls are nice. This helmet kit was created by KWDesigns. The frown is large compared to the size and shape of the helmet, which gives it a very different look vs a normal TK. KW stayed very close to the source material he used to sculpt the suit (GG statue) and the helmet very closely matches the proportions of the statue helmet. I think the idea behind the GG statue was to design a different helmet for a female to give it a more female look. When cutting the eyes out I tried to remove any downturns in the edges that would give them a sad look and removed the return edges completely to give give the eyes a larger look, as well as a slight upward angle at the edges to mimic how some women tend to do makeup with pointy edges around their eyes. It is very subtle, but it's there. My goal is to see about doing these small things to give the helmet an overall more feminine and pleasing look... at least to me. My true opinion is that the armor would look good with a scaled down stunt helmet.
  12. I'm building a Helmet for a garrison mate so I figured I would put up a build thread with a lot of photos for everyone to consume. The Start The helmet kits have all of the trim lines well defined. For the first time I decided to cut in the oval shape on the teeth. With TK's I normally do a more squared off tooth as in the screen reference photos but as this is not a screen TK... Also I am not too fond of the front view of these helmets. The nose bridge is much more pronounced then a normal TK giving the helmet a much longer, narrower look then the TK. The teeth when viewed in person look very normal but when seen on the finished helmets, they look big. I figured I could change this with a mix of the rounded teeth holes as well as the paint job to create the illusion of a smaller mouth area. Semi positioned capn' back All of the holes are premarked, but I don't like to trust guides, especially because I wanted to change the way the helmet looks a little during the build, so give it a more pleasing look from all angles once built. I drilled out the holes on the capn' back but left the holes on the face plate intact. Once I got the helmet together where I felt was best, I marked the faceplate holes through the cap holes. My marks were about 5-7mm behind the premarked holes on the faceplate. You can see form this photo that the helmet looks tall and narrow. At least it look slike this to me. This is why I tried to position the cap a little lower, almost a "lowbrow" When seen from the side, it looks really good as far as proportions. So It must be the high nose bridge that sets off the direct front view of the helmet (in my opinion). A bad mark about the helmet is the rubber that KW provides is ultra susceptible to marking the white ABS. So this helmet will have black marks in quite a few locations from the fitting and movement of the pieces while getting it locked down. It is a greasy type smear that will come off, I just have to look into trying to get some warm water and soap and failing that maybe light paint thinner and then buff the area after with plastic polish. The next step tonight will be cutting and fitting the ears and then taking it apart a little to do the painting. More to come in 24 hours.. or so.
  13. Brian, I wish you could see the situation as most people here do after your description... First, even though you know these people gave you a hard time about the costuming gig, you brought your helmets to a bar, which means they are important enough to you that you are proud of them... Good on you, you should be. Second, your friends should THANK the shizz out of you. You bringing them discovered another costumer who owns the BAR! Who gave you a free round and if you go there in the future is likely to remember you, and you alone, your friends are now beholding to you because you know the owner of the bar. I suggest you go back often to this bar and get to know the owner better. Being friends with a bar owner is never a bad thing. Third... if women want to wear your helmets and you are ok with it, let em. Maybe if your girlfriend or wife (if you have one) doesn't like it, that is another case. As far as your friends and others are concerned, they are straight jealous. They got more action from women because of you then they ever have in a bar. The long and short... it is your stuff, do with it as you like. There is no code, there is no rule. It is yours, do as you want, and enjoy it.
  14. WIP is "Work In Progress" It is a thread you can call your own that you can post your progress building your suit, questions specific to your suit, build questions, accessories questions, anything and everything relating to your build can go in there and you will get people that come back over and over again to help you as well as new people stopping in to add things.
  15. NE is a recast of RS props and was not allowed to be sold by him on the FISD due to it's questionable lineage. So he went back to selling AM here and not NE.
  16. At your size, almost any kit will work for you, so it comes down to researching the different suits, and their prices. However, for your size, I would generally stay away from AM, RT and FX armors. FX is old and inaccurate, and the AM and RT are geared towards larger troopers. RS has a few pieces like the kidney which are a bit wide as well, but can be heat shaped to form the body a little better.
  17. In the ongoing sales forum, look at the stickies. There is a post in there about a combined on-going accessories listing. There you can find links to all of the ongoing sales on he forum. As to the etiquette... search, research, and if you have troubles, ask in a thread. When you are ready, you can also setup a WIP thread that you can house all of your questions in one place, and get help during your build, show photos and so on from your build. We all love to live vicariously through others and their builds!
  18. I am 6'6" and 220, 34inch waist. Troopermaster or TM fits as best as possible due to the slightly longer torso, but mostly because of the special XL shins that he sells on request. They are 2 inches than the normal shins which is a BIG deal for us tall guys. AM is good for wider folks, RT is the same, but TM is the only one that will will find purpose built longer parts. To wear the TM unmodified and to fully close on the sides you should have no more than a 34in waist in jeans with a fairly flat belly (doesn't have to be washboard, but can't be a pony keg down there). It is always possible to have the sides open a little or even to add a seamless shim. You will find on such tall guys there is always more black gaps in the pieces then with the shorter guys who are almost fully covered in armor but if you strap it right combined with a longer set of shins and allowing for more space on the shoulder bridges (between chest and back straps) you will have no problem getting into a TM set of armor.
  19. Woot! Another great addition to the 501st! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Or maybe they are just cashing in on the craze by offering something but not being honest about the origins.
  21. The photos are pretty bad, you can't actually see the detailing except that the crotch and caboose are shiny. I don't see any ribbing. I will first say from my experience about firstracing.co.uk is that their material is much too thick and can end up bunching up around the armor pieces. It is a nice suit for average or colder weather, but not recommended for warm/hot... you will boil.
  22. Ben, just like Ian said slow and steady. The link to my build of the kit is in my signature. There is some extra details in there but the steps are pretty straight forward. It really can seem overwhelming to start but once you open the packaged and lay everything out and study the pieces it really is pretty straight forward. Everyone here is quick to help out an we as a community will make sure you get all the help you need to get it done.
  23. Thanks for the post. This photo surfaced at or around the same time as the actual shot of the other side of the helmet. There is a lot of questioning regarding if it was accurate or not. Rumor was that they put in the mic on one side and not the other as a tip of the hat towards the asymmetrical nature of the originals. However, nothing confirmed at all. Several early makers of this helmet copied this single tip design and it looks good, but it is really just a guess as we have not seen this far yet. From a design standpoint, as Roy said (he know what he is talking about here!) it makes no sense to put it, unless it is a deliberate addition. We will just have to wait until more views of the helmet are released to know 100%. Roy will be making the design based on actual helmet data and nothing conceptual or conjecture. Gotta get it right the first time
  24. This is awesome and we all are waiting anxiously for the update!
  25. The Parts are sterling and there isn't any resizing done to account for the 40mm OD pipe. What is fitted to the 40mmOD pipe is the predone curves on the grip, mag well and rear sight. But there was no scaling of parts in the kit, they are straight 1:1 copies of the sterling parts.
