Quartermaster's Incinerator Test Fit
Darth Voorhees replied to Quartermaster's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Understandable Paul, and i do see that its been taken care of. Not that i had any doubt in you, or the detachment. Just wanted to mention the observation so we wont unintentionally do something similar with another new character. I guess it was Johns timing that got him..inevitably it will happen to someone starting a costume on the cusp of reworking the CRLs. I am glad to see the new LMOs are looking to the detachments to up the game for the whole legion. Looking forward to a great 2011 with the FISD and the Legion! -
Quartermaster's Incinerator Test Fit

John is going to make the corrections mentioned, but did point out the first pic posted on the CRL was of someones suit, and his is a dead on match for that. Apparently that persons suit is based off the action figure. We should try and be more clear on these things so that this doesnt happen to someone else. I dont think the pics of that persons suit should have been on the CRL if they were based on the action figure, (unless it was an option to go in)since the game preceded the figure, and the game is where the character originated. Or, if that version is acceptable, it should be an option, and Johns suit should be fine. I cleared his suit as is, but recommended he do the changes mentioned as i think the main reference should be the game, not the figure. John always does nice, together builds, so im confident he will meet the new standards. Again, John, great work my fellow ECG brother! EDIT: Type-o -
Quartermaster's Incinerator Test Fit
Darth Voorhees replied to Quartermaster's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Looks great John! This is really making me want to do this build..arrgh! LOL! To add to what Daetrin said..around the mic tips/vocoder area should be red as well. A darker red would be better also. -
I would use a combination of what Bluegrot and seantrooper suggested. Support underneath with a strip of ABS or similar and then fill any seam on the outside with ABS paste (mix together abs shavings and a little acetone to make the paste) You can then sand it with 180 grit sandapaper and then again with 400 grit and use the deep scratch polish after that. Then use the other 2 polishes. Makes the crack almost invisible and you will still have a decent luster to the armor.

that is sooooo awesome!

DV's ATA ESB Build[*ATA]
Darth Voorhees replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
So i tried to paint the tube stripes on the ANH helmet, but didnt like the way they came out...so i ordered decals for that today. Since im doing a lose representation of the "set for stun"/DaveM helmet, from the reference photos ive seen on Starwarshelmets.com, it looks like the decals would be the way to go anyways. As for the ESB helmet, it is now complete! -
Caboots back making stormtrooper boots

Same here! -
One for the guys in my garrison has a 3PO suit as well. If you cant get any info from TK409 (hes hard to get a hold of sometimes) ill gladly ask my Garrison mate for ya. I always thought the white Protocol driod on hoth would be cool to do as well. That would be Rebel legion though as well. But im WAY to heavy to pull off a protocol droid lol.

You and me both brother lol Yea the back is a bit high, but the front looks good man....perfect to me in fact. The thighs look good too man. Keep in mind you need some space to walk up curbs/steps and the likes. I had mine a little higher than yours at first then i had to lower them cuz i couldnt go up and down stairs and it was difficult to step up a curb!
-
Honestly bro..it looks good to me! The chest height looks perfect. If you make it lower you'll cover the ab buttons. Cant say about the back as i cant see it..lol. The thigh height /elastic length looks perfect as well. Like Mike said, id like to see pics with your arms down in just a forward stance, but it looks great to me bro.

Thank you sir! I just ordered the decals from Mike. Hopefully ill grab another can of white paint this weekend and get this all done and ready for the decals! -
Really? Didnt know that! I know the older RT stuff was "not quite right" looking so i thought it just progressed. I stand corrected on that.

i agree with everything you just said! thats basically what i was saying...but you said it simpler lol.

Thanks Bluey! I used some of your pics from that sweet TM helmet you got for reference along with shots on StarWarsHelmets.com -
Well put Nathan. If Mike is VT, which i have now heard through a few people that VT is in fact Tk-4510, than so be it, so what, who cares. Im getting tired of all this debate about the same thing over and over. This all stemmed from a recast movie suit...to me...at this point in time, with so many TE linage makers out there...it shouldnt make a difference. One of the reasons i joined the 501st, was the good it does, the positive..if i were TE i would have let anyone recast my stuff. Why? Because this isnt supposed to be about money..its supposed to be about helping each other out, pushing the legion accuracy forward, and doing good for our communities wearing those suits. The more people offering quality accurate style armor the better. Cuz really all i see is arguments over money..cuz if someone recast "armor maker x", your cutting into his business.. (a busness that isnt even really legal!) At this point..does that really matter? The TK community now has TE,TE2, AP, Cap-W, and ATA ..as acceptable sellers, all from the same linage. Personally i think its great. Id like to see the legion filled with non-FX accurate style helmets, and the TKs of the legion look more uniform, as they did way back when only FX helmets were out there. We've come a long way..with lots of drama in there..but enough is enough...TE did something that pushed the community forward..whether we like him or not. If he didnt someone else would have eventually. im just happy we have what we do now. I am i supporter of recasting? No. If anyone recast TM or RT-mod, THAT to me is not acceptable, as those suits were sculpted by the makers and years of work put into them from a hunk of clay to a finished product that is always getting revised. That is taking away from the artists hard work. Becuase if you sculpted a TK suit, you ARE an artist. Recasting a movie suit and making a few mods isnt an artist. If i ever got my hands on a movie suit to cast, i would do that, and guess what, i wouldnt care who recast it..the point is the community...not money. So if Mike is VT..i personally honestly dont care. I do however feel he should come clean and say so himself. Honesty is what i feel is key in this community, and ive done many dealings with Mike and like the guy. Hes done plenty good for this community. Hopefully he will come clean and still be around for newbies to get decals and supplies from. I love this community and i hate to see it getting all bent up over...as Scootch put it "bootlegged spacesuits" Did you see what happened in Japan...quite the reality check...im more concerned with Nathans, all the other Japanese Garrison members, (and everyone else living there) lives than some white plastic. I think its time to get over it and move along. Thats all i have to say..love me or hate me for it.

Thanks John... I decided to redo the tears and traps...it was pointed out i painted the tears kinda small, and the lines on the rear traps were kinda big lol..so i fixed that, and also decided to base the helmet off of the "Set for Stun" helmet. Aside from the tube stripes and neck trim..this is done! -

Darth Voorhees replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Thanks Guys! Ok so i finished the ANH bucket..less the tube stripes(which ill order soon) and the neck trim which ATA will send as soon as he has it in stock again. I did the trim with a deco color paint marker. I did the vocoder with black enamel paint with a "filbert" brush. It has a curved top. And here is the helmet... My Cat Diego likes it also! Ill likely start on the ESB helmet this weekend. Stay tuned! -

Did a little more work tonight. I wet sanded the helmet with 400grit sandpaper to allow the paint to stick better and then sprayed a few coats of gloss white Krylon Fusion for plastic. Pretty much emptied the can. I then hand painted the frown, ear rectangles and traps with testors grey #1138. Tomorrow i will do the black trim on the traps and ears, paint the vocoder, and put the brow back on. Heres what it looks like now.. -
