  1. Hey Issac! Thanks for the advice! This is actually my first build but I've been researching since late October '11 so I have some direction, although actually working with the plastic has proven to be a bit more challenging than it looks! Thank god I have some model building experience and own most of the needed tools and supplies! I have been using as many reference pics as possible including the frown thread but as I was cutting I think I've been a bit more on the careful side and definitely need to go a bit further. I'm just so paranoid I'll cut too much away and have to contact ATA for replacement parts! (I've already contacted ATA should that possibility arise!) I agree with you about the relative accuracy part! The more I work on it the more accurate I want to make it! I'm really praying I can get it to EIB and Centurion in one shot, then I'm going to apply for my 501st membership. I don't want it to be completely accurate, I'd like a bit of "idealized" elements as well. Wish me luck! Jesse and Gaz! I am definitely going to go back and trim a bit more. I like the bigger eye look and everything I've seen so far has wider openings in the teeth, so I'm going to go with that! Thanks all for the help!
  2. I do believe I am being a bit schizophrenic with my build, jumping from trimming to the lid to rough fitting to beginning the glueing prices but considering the limited amount of time I can spend on it, it really ends up being whatever is inspiring me at the time. I'm sure as the build progresses a method and order will emerge! Well, so far I've trimmed and rough fitted the lid, began glueing Jesse's awesome new thermal det and started the forearms with some inside strips from the leftover trim pieces when I trimmed the parts. I think next I'll start cutting some finishing strips and try to get the limbs going first then work my way up to the body and the lid. I also still need to get rolling on my snap plates! Well here's just a couple of progress pics. the lid: I still haven't gotten to retrimming the teeth and eyes yet. Soon though: Gluing the inside recycled reinforcing strips, finishing strips and assembly next. Boy could I use about 20 more clamps to get more done at once!! Menards, here I come!
  3. Ahh, decisions, decisions. Well I kinda like the "Twinkie" thing but I do see that I should take a bit more off. Thanks for the advice, I'll be updating after I get a chance to work on it a bit more. Onward and upward!
  4. Decided to tinker with the helmet this week and trimmed it out. How am I doing on the eyes and teeth? Should I take more off, or is it dialed in? I've been meaning to get to Gazmosis' workshop but life keeps up that nasty habit of getting in the way! I just couldn't resist beginning it! Here's some close ups of the areas: Opinions would help a ton!
  5. I can answer the first one. This is from Gazmosis' build When you ask for two right biceps it'll look like this (minus the thumbprint mod): ---------- This is what you get when you don't order it that way. this is from my brown box pics (still a WIP): ------------ The lefts are curvier than the rights. I purchased the Dave M decals from Trooperbay. They mimic hand painted ones that are requirements for EIB ANH stunt. They don't come with the kit because many folks paint them themselves.
  6. I LOVE my ATA kit and Supertrooper is a great guy to deal with! I have no experience with any other kits but I couldn't be happier with my purchase! AP looks great too, but for the price, ATA is really a great value! Highly recommended!
  7. I'll second that! I used the leftover rail from my E-11. Worked perfect!
  8. Hey Keith, Well, slow going so far. Between work and kids, getting to the kit has been challenging to say the least. I started a progress post here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19213&hl=&fromsearch=1 Ive gotten a little further since then but haven't posted any of the pics yet. I started to work on the helmet a bit but am waiting to visit a garrison mate here to get some expert advice as soon as i can get out to him. My advice is just to read everything you can and begin compiling links to ATA builds and EIB/Centurian posts for reference. That's helped me enormously so far. Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing your build progress! Manuel, That's great advice! I was working on the helmet and am glad I didn't go drilling anything yet! You're timing is excellent!
  9. If you know someone who plays drums a 5A stick works perfectly! Fits snug as a bug! I followed Luis' advice and used a coat hanger.
  10. Ahhh, so familiar! This is an excellent thread! I have a spreadsheet running of nearly everything so far as well. I may share the details after I've finished with the build and satisfied that I'm generally done (can that ever happen?). I've been dropping the ball as of late with keeping up with it, especially after I went over budget and have easily cracked the $1,200 mark that I set as my limit. Fortunately, I've been financing mine with ebay sales of my other nerdology items so as long as I still have worthy things to sell I should be in good shape! Onward and upward!
  11. Well, I've finally begun the kit. I've been trimming for 4 days and still have 3 parts to go! Wow, is that a process! My fingers are going to fall off!! This is what I've got done so far: This is left: The tools I've been relying on: And a bit of the progress: Testing a bicep with my compression undershirt on.... note the cardboard standee "model", been staring at him a lot!: Still need to get the helmet going but I'm waiting to get over to Gazmosis's house to get some expert help! Onward and upward!.......
  12. I got the exact same ones at the same price! LOL! We're all on the same page! I've only worn them to try em on and for sizing pieces so far but they seem excellent and comfortable!
  13. That's a great idea! Nice work so far! I'm loving your creativity!
  14. I'm using Safari 5.1.4. And I'm seeing exactly what you have in the picture. Adjusting them doesn't make a difference. So weird!
  15. Even after using the new theme, resetting my cache, clicking it from the "forum" section, it still doesn't show me any new content. Any other suggestions?
  16. Thanks Lucas! I really appreciate it when the vets give a compliment!
  17. Hey Oso, I sprayed probably 3 coats on it. I ended up using 1 1/2 cans on it. I just kept spraying in light coats until it was covered. It took a while and initially looked too thick, but after finishing I think it came out fine. The rustoleum will come out looking really glossy at first so you will definitely have to hit it with some clear matt paint. I used Floquil model train paint to finish it. Oh, and I airbrushed the matt coat so it wouldn't cover so thickly. Good luck my brother!
  18. YES!........OH YES!!!!!!!!
  19. I'm voting for the epoxy, mine feels incredibly solid. I'm absolutely sure it could probably crack with a decent drop, but for just playing around with it (and I've been doing a LOT of that with it!), holstering it quickly, etc. it feels totally solid. I'm also absolutely sure if it did break it wouldn't be where the epoxy was! LOL! I tried E6000 first and after 2 days of waiting for it to cure it still pulled apart easily. I started a thread just for this topic: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=18341&hl=&fromsearch=1 and I was the only one who had trouble but a few said they used epoxy or two part superglue as well. The other thing is the cure time. I was able to assemble just about everything in one evening with the epoxy. And, it created some nice looking "weld" points on some sections. Such as the front sight seams: --------- And the rear sight and the shoulder bracket clip (kinda hard to see the clip but it made a nice weld-looking point): -------- You just have to be really careful with the application because it's obviously a bit harder to work with, but if you go relatively sparing with it and try to be creative, I'm sure you can get it to look awesome and like I said above, it'll be the strongest parts of the blaster! A billion times stronger that the resin it's cast with! AND, I figured what a better way to glue a resin but with another resin! Well, good luck and I hope my little epoxy infomercial helped. No, I don't work for the epoxy industry...
  20. Very interesting mod! Nice work so far!
