  1. Well, I'm almost finished so I thought I'd post a continuation to the build. I left out how I made the spring on this particular thread so here's what I did. First I scraped off all of the paint on a regular coat hanger then used a 5A drumstick to form the coil. I'll double check the size of the stick but it was perfect for fitting the spring into the inner pipe of the blaster: Installed: After the filling, sanding and priming I finally got to paint the black base coat. I used Rustoleum hammered finish spray paint from Sprawlmart. It went on pretty glossy, but as you'll see in the end with the flat clear coat it all worked out.: I eventually hung it to spray: It looked pretty glossy after drying: After the clear mat coat: I painted the spring Citadel bolt gun metal, I think it looks pretty good: I taped off the handle before the matt coat so it stayed glossy: Texture's pretty cool: I like the imperfections, think it'll add character. All that's left now are the metal details and screws. Then one more clear mat coat to protect it! Yay! Then.......on to the armor!
  2. This is by no means a definitive list but this is what I've put together for my ATA build by reading a ton of tutorials and getting recommendations. It's taken about 4 months to get it all together and it seems pretty complete (just missing the strapping components). I'm sure something else will come up, but this may help give you an idea of the items you will most likely need. --------- Good luck!
  3. Little progress last night painting the base color on the scope. It's not technically brass (it's Citadel Dwarf Bronze acrylic) but I think it'll work under the black. I intend to do only light weathering so I don't think the slight darker metallic color will be all that bad. If anyone thinks it'll not work in the end, I may repaint it with a closer brass enamel, but that will mean another trip to the Hobby Shop (which I actually never mind at all, more paint is better! ) Opinions (as usual) are welcome!! That's all for now! SOON the final black coat and mat clear coat!! Almost there!!
  4. Just don't do it!!!!! Read more here, do research, be more patient and you'll save yourself a bunch of money, have a great time, connect with an amazing community and be satisfied in knowing you made the right decision!! We've all felt the impatience, my motto is if you're going to do it, just do it right in the first place! Everyone is here to help!!
  5. Tried it, didn't work. I clicked all of the options on the left and nothing but one of the threads I'm following. I'm using Safari, could that be the problem? I don't have another browser on this mac but can get another one if I need to.
  6. When I click on "view new content" it says there are no new posts. I'm not sure what happened, it used to work.
  7. The priming really binds the whole thing together! I'm dying to get rolling on the final paint job and weathering! Any suggestions on what kind of black spray paint to use?
  8. Progress on the build last night! I've decided to not go with a detailed bolt (forgive me Martin and Vern!) I'm general happy with it as is and I'm just itching to get to the armor. I was able to fill sand and prime all of the parts. Now, to base coat the colors tonight, then spray everything black later this week when I get some time!
  9. It's looking awesome and you're working so fast! Excellent! I really got to get on started on my build! You've inspired me!! Darned E-11 taking up all of my attention!
  10. It's looking great Steve! Really nice work! I'm following and getting a little scared to begin mine!
  11. Stainless, brass or aluminum? How many do I need for assembly? And where are we using them in the builds? I'd hate to buy too many or the wrong metal.
  12. I'm seeing many folks using these for different sections of their armor and just wanted to know what the size is and type of the ones that are being used. Also, where are they used generally on the armor. I've seen them mentioned in posts many times but never tallied up where they're being used the most. Like Holsters, belts, ammo belts, etc. I have found a website that specializes in them and would like to order some but am not sure about sizes or the kind of metal I should get. (aluminum/brass/stainless/etc.) or how many I'd need. http://www.chicagoscrews.com/ Thanks for the help
  13. Yeah, I read that and it looked like a whole other project to copy what you did. I've been basically following your thread for my build anyway. I was kinda trying to avoid going there, as well as I'm not too concerned that it is a working bolt anyway like yours. I like the look but mine doesn't have to function. Hmmmm........what to do, what to do.........I just wanna finish and paint this bad boy, and now it looks like I'm opening another can of worms here! btw.....Martin's my hero! I Love your build! Whenever I work on my build I always ask myself "WWMD?" What would Martin do?
  14. Thanks, I chucked the idea because it ended up being too late. Thanks tho, I'm gonna hit Home Depot later tonight to get a 22mm (or as close as I can get it) PVC tube for the bolt. I'll double check the measurements before I go. Once again thanks for the help guys!
  15. I'm out running some errands and was going to grab what I needed for the rear bolt on the Doopy. Does anyone have the interior dimensions of the PVC pipe Doopy's uses. I don't have mine handy to check. Thanks all
  16. Well I suppose that is the million dollar question. So far I've gone through enough work making the front bolts/sight pin/rail/bracket as accurate as I can, would it be unforgivable to not make the rear part of the bolt? I've seen the tutorials but it seems like it'll be another project in itself to fabricate it. I know it'll look cool, but I kind of just want to get it painted and move on to the armor. Of the posts I've read it really runs the gamut of folks making it look really accurate vs. looking like I have it, without the rear part of the bolt. As I said above, I will do it if you guys think it's absolutely necessary, but if I can get away with it, I'd like to just get to painting and moving on with my armor build.
  17. Got it! Thanks Vern! It'll be good to go! Just have to putty and sand it.
  18. Thanks Vern! Now THAT means something to me! So I shouldn't paint it black? Do you think it's good to finish up at this point?
