  1. Not sure but... The top of kidney plate and bottom of back plate?
  2. I think we need to enforce rubber/airtight undersuits on TK's now
  3. Uhh, says who? Oh yeah, just a bunch of people who got a bit excited about the new trailer and pics from celebration. I would search the old threads regarding that specific topic, the topic is so old. The question in this thread is if there are any ideas of making some TFA armors soon as fan kit.
  4. Their eyes are not closed, they have employees who work with fan communities, and they know what we do. Just a note: "recast" is not in topic. In a scenario without such agreement or understanding of a creative fanbase we wouldn't have been allowed to even draw the armor designs on two wood planks tied with threads over the shoulders. That would mean bye bye cosplayers. There's no distinction in replication methods when replicating a design. However inside the fan making hobby we talk about "recasts" as the frequent act of partly using someone else's workmanship and producing additional series further, by dipping a product considered final into silicone and branching out the production chain without care to ask if it's okay. Things get lost and there is harm in social definitions. But it has nothing to do with LFL until we start setting a shop, advertising and selling to the grand public to/from a country where copyrights are violated. If the ANOVOS suit is recast after they started selling the armor it's their own problem and they'll most likely see it on eBay with the usual "501st approved" bullshucks descriptions, but for us: a bunch of forum threads more to moderate. The agreement is that we stick to the hobby definitions and we don't have to worry.
  5. I think the millions we collect for charity using costumes, and the amount of free SW hyping puts us in the safest zone. Can't say the same about ANOVOS, if they for any reason lose the license, they're out.
  6. It means we can, without license, build replicas and exchange our fan-made products using our community boards, for the purpose of the fan costuming hobby.
  7. And for the same reason that there are several makers for TK, Boba, TS, etc. still popping up today, there will be several more for the First Order costumes.
  8. I feel the same way, I have so many wants, so many needs, right now! And I haven't even watched the trailer. #spoilerfree #yeswecan I gotta do something with my hands ASAP but I don't feel like paying 2000 USD for a pre-assembled "get your own shoes" costume and then not feel any builder's pride. I think the old TK's still look gorgeous, so I seriously want to start Ralph McQuarrie TK because I need a project
  9. The problem is that if one person breaks the NDA, it's the entire 501st that gets skipped next time and paid entertainers will be hired because "volunteers are no longer considered reliable". They can afford skipping us.
  10. ...Are they called "First Order Stormtroopers" now btw? Can we speculate and say it's no longer Empire vs Rebellion but First Order vs Resistance?
  11. I miss the boobs also. The TK have awesome boobs and only now we recognise their power. Like for any other costume I remind myself to give importance to the character. We are costumers and we forgot what it's like maybe, and this urge to get the looks right might not alone be motivating enough to truly appreciate a design. Imagine if darth vader was a douchebag with attitude problems at the workplace, we wouldn't have been so in love with his big bubble eyes and triangle mouth would we? I will wait to see the movie I think, the TKs were badass in the old trilogy, if the tfa ones don't do anything cool, then I'll just skip that costume like I skipped the clones.
  12. I'd say both but I have only seen a pic from the trailer. If you think about the Tk armor being able to suit body types between a certain range through proper fitting, it seems less possible to get elegant results with the tfa tk because it's not very " human " to begin with, more droidy. We might need to be a more in the middle body type to look good in it.
  13. Who else thinks the body armor looks disproportionate and unfitted? The geometry is off to me.
  14. Nothing will ever mean that.
  15. Hey, two years ago I did that blaster pose before "before it was cool" ^^
  16. If you look for reasons to allow you to wear extra adornment you will find them eventually, and others will find reasons for you not to, in the end always someone disapproving. But consider that stormtroopers look good in numbers, alone it looks like one cosplayer was richer than the others. If you have other stormtroopers with you, think about the overall look in group, why do anything to stick out from the lot? Get a bounty hunter if you want to be pimped up.

Maybe this could help... I quit smoking after my immune system together with a violent pollen allergy decided to go oversensitive to everything I put in my body. At the same time as I quit smoking, I struck about 80% of the dairy, sugary, fatty, carby shucks off my diet. The whole transition to eating very safely was a huge change and it was a healthy change, but it did make me angry, frustrated, when I couldn't eat this or that, or couldn't give in to urges, then I got a bit depressed but I found ways to make my food very tastey and yet safe. So it ended well. I was very addicted to nicotine, I used no alternative after I quit, and the effects of withdrawal were making me jumpy but I went through two brutal changes at once, my behavior and my subconscious got them two mixed up. That way when I was urging for a smoke, it felt like I was urging for pizza, burgers, soda, cake, etc. and since my allergies caused mean rashes to my face it was out of the question to relapse. I haven't had a smoke in half a year and it would be very dumb to start again because I don't even feel like smoking at all. However, if the world was about to end: I'd eat pizza with extra cheese, cream cheese on top, and... NO. No. So yeah, my advice: don't just quit smoking alone, change something else at the same time, eat healthier, work out. Make sure your body doesn't ONLY miss cigarettes because there will be that one time of vulnerability and it's less harmful to cheat on a diet thing instead and whatever "occasional emptiness" felt will be filled.
  18. I read the GML threads over at the Legion and it seems the LMO required a helmet for approval of the Jes TK.
  19. Re-painting a TK with correct colors takes about 30 minutes + drying time...
  20. I've been reading and watching the reactions and craze on Facebook and I gotta say this: Scamming Star Wars fans is easier than scamming old people. And seeing how legion members rush to buy the TFA TK helmets sculpted using ONE photo as a source, and present the finished product from ONE angle, shows that the costuming hobby isn't dumbass proof. Believe me, anything you see with one photo or two, from one angle, will look bad out of the box. It could look like Donald Duck from a 0 degree angle it won't show elsewhere. They're selling you exactly what they show you so it's not a scam, but don't think you'll be happier. Regarding the "original undersuit", you all already have undersuits. Just make ribbing layers and sew that on where the gaps will be once you can fit an armor to begin with. Like Ron Swanson would say: "People who buy things are suckers." See you in 2016.
  21. Don't know if this was mentioned but... Has anyone thought of maybe contacting LFL/Disney to get photos of front, side, back, inside, everything? They know what we do and that we need to review our costumes before we clear them, at least for high profile trooping events. We can't represent the new movies in time for their release if we don't know how to build and approve a costume correctly, right?
  22. Nice holster though.
  23. I agree with Mathias. If we tolerate recasts even when the original source is inaccessible, in the long run the creativity loses. Delays and missed troops can be the consequence, but that's okay as it encourages you to get a second costume or to be careful with your mic tips. If things are created from scratch out of necessity instead of sheer enthusiasm, then more things are created. Inconvenience is good for progress. Convenience is good for laziness. Now when we're talking about getting old Volvo dashboards to make a Solo in carbonite, or a saucer-shaped spaceship made out of 8 lambda class shuttle wings, then of course, recast the one that you have. But parts for a costume that has plenty of resources? No.
