  1. This thread is really rich <3 FISD
  2. You can also look at the pic in my previous post and try to have everything to spec: clips, control board, cap ends and pipe the exact same dimensions as seen. I may paraphrase myself but, try to be faithful to the screen appearance, and the measurements would be more relative than exact. Example: if you need to shorten your pipe, as well as overall length, so that the space between the cap fully placed and the edge of the board when perfectly centered, matches half the width of a metal clip to match the appearance in the movie, then do it. But try the exact measurements first, you can also look at this which gives some dimensions for the TD------------ Maybe this formula is good? Measure the pipe with the end caps on, measure your metal clips, measure your control board. Then: total length = end cap + (clip width)/2 + control board + (clip width)/2 + end cap <=> end cap = (total length - clip width - control board)/2
  3. There you go, sir! http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/gallery/image/2484-td/ The edges of the "board" don't need to be rounded.
  4. I... no, WE, choose ANH Stunt because the first seconds in Star Wars ever we see the ANH Stunt TK's for the very first time and it marked us for life. In ESB the TK's were no longer a big deal. In ROTJ... meh. People choose anything else than ANH stunt when they have feelings and thoughts, and let them control their decisions instead of just making the spontaneous choice.
  5. I padded with duct tape 1/3 of the inside of my end caps for extra safety. Anyway, in October you've finished the entire costume, right?
  6. I agree. TK's representn'. Eventually I'm gonna have to switch to TB as well, a TBelly for my beer belly
  7. Oui, bref! It is just the visible part that counts and you put something there it should be enough. I wanted to keep the cap removable so adding anything there would be impossible. Luckily there are many other details we can waste our lives perfecting
  8. Couldn't tell either, my damn work proxy blocks almost every weapon pics on google. Then I browsed for awhile and like I assumed the one side facing the rear shouldn't be visible as it looks like this when cap is off: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Tim_Orrock/media/Sterling%20Mk4/P1040832-1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=12 (and on: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Tim_Orrock/media/Sterling%20Mk4/P1040844.jpg.html?sort=3&o=17 )
  9. That's attention to details The fact that the pipe's outer diameter is slighter larger than the breach would be this detail is really tricky to recreate. I wouldn't have used a circular shaped object, even the thinest band flattened and taped right there would do the trick, you can add a tiny bit of shadow with a pen or paint afterwards. People tend forget this detail on the rear breach but they probably don't remember seeing a tiny cable either. Either way it be fine once painted and cool to look at. En tout cas, bon travail! ^^
  10. Aha, you also figured to late that the dremel tip is a lot wider when it starts spinning like nutjob? :P I used the superpointy one and it screwed mine up too a bit. That's why the depression will look a bit larger, nothing bothersome in the finished state of the blaster. Illustration:
  11. Yeah, a garrison sis did that too, and got one pair on its way.
  12. A garrison bro switched to hovi speakers and I must say it sounds okay, could understand him and he didn't get any feedback issues for what I noticed. However in crowds and noisy environment he wasn't loud enough. Had to kiss him, almost ^^. Some situations such as saying something to a group with helmets on their head or yelling kids around require a bit larger equipment.
  13. That's a very reasonable system you have to help your troopers keep up, so you basically require them to make modifications given a suitable time frame? For about how many troopers was this necessary and how was the reception?
  14. I agree with what was said, there are cinematographic techniques of getting things done within time and budget, and we aren't bound to it so we should take all our time to reach for the ending result. Now let's talk about the "screen used off white" color of some of our armors that are accurate to what was meant to be run through camera filters without blending with the blue/gray in the decor. We're not walking in front of such filters when we troop, do we? SO WZUPWITYELLOWTROOPERS
  15. It's not elitist until we refuse and make up excuses by calling others elitist. We could say the exact same thing about already approved members who are too "elite" and so modifications are beneath them. What many people on both sides of the issue don't understand is that within reason, it has nothing to do with the 501st status, it's all about showing up at events and convincing people that we are top notch costumers officially recognized by LFL when we barely have any routine other than keeping new people out of our closed circle based on nearly arbitrary criteria. Do we prefer not showing up at events at all and just whine on forums for another decade? No. It's not fair. We're supposed to be all including and a bunch of us in my city are tired of being the only 4-5 guys doing all the non-major local events. Partly because (according to "independent legion TK's") we have some stupid rules. If people finally recognized me as the ruler of the world (which I am, but I'm done convincing) I say we write a CRL for the most accurate costume, no Tier 1,2,3 make one and that's it. That means we stop misleading people into making build mistakes, and when it comes to status let people try to do as much as possible so the GML's (not one person) approve within reason so we can start trooping with new guys, and embrace them in our system of troopers helping troopers. Then we fix stuff at armor parties, workshops, instead of arguing bureaucratically like a college administration.
  16. As long as we say it's ok to rivet the shoulder bridges I say we should allow Mr No Stripes.
  17. Someone asked recently how I came up with the digits image I printed out and inserted in the counter. Well... good old Paint. Paint.net actually, a freeware you can use. Google gave me unsatisfying things to use for printing out, so I just used what I saw as inspiration while I just made my own number digits from scratch. Here's my original file with the top 2 layers being the text: ------------ Printed with lower contrast it looks like this: --------- Then I took some plastic packaging and cut a slightly longer but matching strip with the xacto to cover it up.
  18. TKboots are out of a shop currently so getting the right horseriding shoes and painting them white would be a better option.
  19. Ah c'est marrant, moi je refuse d'utiliser des gants avec le décapeur thermique. Parce que si ça me brule, c'est parce que je chauffe trop!
  20. This is gonna be fun.
  21. Ah, no it's not part of the CRL. Thanks for the correction. How I remember not even screen used had them. Haven't seen any have them actually. Just on our builds Wearer shall then ignore. Like they so often do.
  22. Personality contrasts and language barriers. I imagine some would like to be overconfident and affirm their supremacy by ignoring authority or 3rd party, rendering mistakes. Some will have an opinion against high standards placing more demands on newer costumers while seniors had to do less but had less available to work with, or because of the assumption that we're not quite sure how a stormtrooper looks like anyway - but all of that is a personal judgement thing and can be erreonous depending on how you look at it and from which perspective. Some future TK's would rather ask normal garrison members than the GML thinking they'll have a more relaxed answer with their being non-staff, so it's not always at the GML's reach. One thing adding up to another, the list of things that could have easily been made better, below or above requirements, will be rounded up to the basic minimal text on the 501st.com's CRL, or even less if it's to avoid upsetting the applicant too much. It's unfortunate when you make mistakes out of misinformation, that's why we should do much more than slight changes to the most commonly used tool for costume reference in the 501st, that is also translated in other languages. My GML made me do changes that weren't mandatory, and relayed enough TK-related information from her own experience, and referred to the FISD to backup many points, so it went beyond the CRL many times since it is far from enough to help troopers reach quality through minimum effort. The answer to why some GML's aren't doing their job would be that it's really a lot of work when a garrison is actively promoting itself and people apply frequently, meanwhile we're probably hundreds of people in each detachment debating about what not to write in the CRL worrying about the negative impact.
  23. I'm aware of that, but carrots and potatoes. I'm talking about ease of access to correct information, about the CRL as reference for new costumers. Not about troopers who are already set since years ago. And I know what EI and C reflect, and it's not about putting troopers on a higher pedestal than others in practical terms of trooping, both should still look good only one went the extra mile: a rivet right in the middle of the shoulder bridge is not the same thing as, say, a neck trim that isn't the right letter in the alphabet should you remove the helmet and look at it from the edges. Not everyone goes first to the 501st.com, detachment forum, and then Garrison forum. Some just go to the garrison, learn from people who haven't read the CRL for awhile, and then hop over to the CRL on the 501st.com only to see that it's ok to use rivets and velcro on all funny places. It's such a small detail to write "glue the thing".
  24. Back and kidney needs to be cut for A New Hope TK, yes. The helmet needs to be finished. Meshes on mike tips, behind frown. Your own boots that fit you if you're gonna troop. Paint the ear screws white. Make the O2 Canister/detonator correct according to CRL, or replace if needed. Glue shoulder straps/bridges on front to chest, and let float in back with 2 small elastic bands. Affix thigh ammo pack to correct location on right thigh. http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL
