  1. Congrats TK 9674! Your armor build has already helped lots of soon to be troopers. We feel safe knowing you are at your post, even though you're by yourself for now. We'll be looking for the Centurion build thread.
  2. Thanks, Darth - same to you, too.
  3. Woo hoo! You are doing great!
  4. Thankya, sir. One guy at work said I "looked like a guy" in my armor. He thought he was dishing me out some crap, until I told him "Yahhhhhh, I'm supposed to look like a dude." I think he was just mad coz he didn't have any armor!!!! Well, in my mind, I'll keep thinking that. haaaa!
  5. Hey LadyInWhite! How is it going? I think you will do an awesome job. I was worried for the longest time until I decided that if I messed up a part, I'd get another replacement. Expensive, but it made me feel better about cutting. Also, I came across this hidden gem... how to make abs paste. Although, you might already know how to make it?.. I used this a few times. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=2041 From TI 3844: Here it is, repaired. The smudge is all that's left of the gouge... either the beaker in which I mixed the acetone soup or the stick I used for stirring is cause of the discolourisation. I really don't have pics of the process itself - it was something I came up with in desperation for ruining my new helmet, so I kinda acted fast. I didn't really write down the process either, so the below stuff is from the top of my head. Essentially, it goes down like this: 1) Cut thin, short strips of matching ABS into a (clean) cup or similar. A glass vessel is preferred! Don't go pouring acetone into a plastic cup... 2) Carefully pour acetone so the fluid covers the ABS shards. Go easy on the acetone - add a little at a lime instead of drowning the ABS shards. We're talking really small amounts of the stuff here - a couple of thimbles worth of shards and acetone. 3) Wait. Depending on the thickness of the ABS pieces, acetone dissolvation time might vary. Check progress every now and then, stir a little with a (clean) rod or stick. Apply more acetone if plastic won't dissolve in a satisfactory way. Go easy on the acetone though - you want a runny, but not watery substance 4) When the acetone/ABS concoction is a bit on the runny side, begin applying to damaged area on armour or helmet. Easy does it - make sure you fill the gouge properly. 5) When happy with the results, leave alone and let the acetone dissolve fully. ABS hardens and fuses with your armor/helmet. Regarding drying time, it depends on amount of ABS goo used and size of damaged area. YMMW. If your ABS milk is runny enough, it will just fill the damaged area - no need to sand. Still, if you get a bump, sand it down with fine-grit sandpaper, buff out the rest with Novus, and you're done! What else... oh - one must remember that acetone starts dissolving right away, so one must keep an eye on the process all the time, and when the mixture is done, use it right away to repair the armour/helmet. And, as Smitty pointed out, this stuff is really flammable and generally unhealthy. Be careful! Hope this helps, guys.
  6. Wow! Looks really good. Wish I could have built mine more like your armor. There's hardly any black showing at all. You did an awesome job.
  7. Looking good there! I know what you mean about sore hands... and it seems to just get worse. But, it's a labor of love, so you won't mind the sore thumbs! You might have cuts and magnet related blisters in your near future, too. Looking forward to more pics.
  8. Hi Diana, Congrats on your armor! I cut my cod, too. http://www.whitearmor.net/fisd/Tutorial-abkidneybutt [it helps if you stuff it with a pair of rolled up socks or something when you are figuring out your strapping. Also, I can walk around with more comfort when I have mine stuffed. I know it sounds weird, but that's what works for me.] I also got AP and went for the ANH - Stunt build. I'm happy with it. Stock up on lots of plastic clamps and rare earth magnets... the higher the N rating, the better, but N52's were too strong for me to get apart. I think I ended up with N42's. Can't wait to see your progress. Have fun with your build! Jenny
  9. Congratulations TK 8298!!! :leia:
  10. Hi Alan, I didn't have my belt attached to the butt plate in the burgandy pics, and I noticed that, too and added velcro the next day. Then, I re-did pictures outside. I lifted up the chest piece in the outside pics, too. I might have to cut off some of the ab / kidney plates, or push them down more. Thanks for the help!

  12. Same goes for your group! Course, I live in the middle of corn and bean fields... not much to do where I am.
  13. You owe her a nice dinner! I think your armor is looking good. That's a funny screen name!
  14. Hey Patrick! Welcome to the FISD. There is alot of info here, so you'll probably need to keep reading. I know, I know.. there's SO MUCH! But, you'll be happy you researched more in the long run. The bad news is that the ebay armor still needs glued / strapped together, which takes just as much time as one of the approved armour makers. Maybe you can find a person with your similar height and weight that is selling a completed suit of armor. You know there's a "but" coming. haaa haaa BUT, IMO it's way better to get your armor and fit it to your body than buy a completed set. You can do this!!! I don't have building skills, but the glue I used was forgiving and I learned as I went. Keep checking here for people selling a completed set of armor-------- Check here if you are considering which armor would best suit your needs--------- It's good to keep asking questions. The motto they have here is "Troopers helping Troopers." And, you are right, EBAY BAD! haaa haaaa Take care, keep us posted with your plans! Jenny
  15. Good plan! I can be a dain bramaged trooper.
  16. You guys/girls did an AWESOME job. I'd love to hop a plane and join in the fun!!!!! Very cool pics.
  17. I haven't worn my nomex, yet. Glad you mentioned this, though. I think I'll try washing mine a few times. I looked this up, and it's way more complicated than I would have thought. http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/settingdye.shtml And, this site says vinegar doesn't help. I learned something new.
  18. Dang, that stinks. Mike from Trooperbay does alot of painting.... Maybe he will chime in. Did you get ahold of a crappy can of paint? Might be a combo of sandpaper / no-good paint?
  19. I'll go with what you said since I noticed a HUGE gouge on my bucket from my adventures at work. I wanna cry in agony, but instead I'll say "It was deliberate." I have the Novus #1, and it hasn't shined up where I filled in gaps with my home-made abs plastic goo. I need to try out the Novus #2. [Number 2, make it so.] Good luck Ryan! Let us know what you ended up doing,
  20. Hey Reza! I'm no expert, so you'll have to wait for the others to chime in, but it looks to me like you have an awesome build goin' on. No need to feel nervous here. These guys/girls are the awesomest - nicest - coolest - peeps ever. [Course, I'm biased!] Rock on!
  21. Wow! Looks good! Holy crap ... that's a BIG GUN there! haaa haaa Love it! Were you able to armor-up for Halloween?
  22. From this day I am incorporated into the Imperial army. Now I stand under command of the Emperor and have been permitted the privilege of wearing the white armor of the Imperial Stormtrooper. I wear it with honor. I wear it with pride. I think on our Empire's glorious history. I think also that the Imperial army must be armed against the inner foe as well as the foreign. More than ever unbelief and discontent raise their head in the Empire, and so I vow to seal my loyalty with the offering up of my heart's blood.
  23. I'll drink to that!
