  1. I don't see why it would be a problem cutting out the moulded seam. In fact, wouldn't it end up looking more correct in one way? The original armour didn't have a raised area. This is only in some replica kits because they are cast from original suits which had overlapping seams (ROTJ derived). So, if you cut out the raised area, you're left with a flat part. Then you put your finishing strip over the top of the join and you have an authentic-looking butt joint. Right?
  2. Shorten the straps connecting the back and kidney so that they are pulled tighter/flush.
  3. The original stormtrooper helmets (the ones from the first Star Wars movie) were hand-painted.
  4. What do you all want decals with your helmet kits for? You're not all building ESB surely?
  5. Despite being recast, the ATA looks a lot closer to the armour origins to my eyes. Compare the shape of the thighs on an AP, ATA and original armour and you'll see what I mean. If I had to chose between the two, ATA would be my choice because the moulds don't look like they've been tampered with unnecessarily. I also prefer the ATA helmet. The AP and ATA helmets which have passed through my hands have been of similar (quite small) size but the ATA (to my eyes) just looked a lot more like the Stunt helmets on screen.
  6. I wouldn't sweat it too much. I copied the way one particular set of thighs was built from the LFL archives photos and they fit me personally really snug. But I don't have particularly slim legs. There was a lot of variation on the way the originals fit. Just look at this guy in the promo shots ... ---------
  7. I found a reference which backs up my theory ... "Her nickname is not just because her favourite flowers are daisys, but also because daisys are called Marguerites, the french form of Margrethe" Her name certainly means daisy in several other languages.
  8. So, is her name a coloquial term for the flower (tusindfryd) in Danish too? It is in German (Margaritte) and in Spanish it's "Margarita". Our dog's name is daisy. I always tell the Spanish that her Spanish name would be Margarita In the UK though it's actually a typical name for a cow!
  9. Yes, can you get one of you and Queen Margrethe II please!
  10. I think you're OK with either cut, Morten. Best thing to do - instead of taking my word for it - is check the screen grabs and watch the movie again and copy what you see on screen. In general though, I think there is evidence of a rather rather rough approach to this kind of trimming. Plenty of random chunks hacked out of the back, U-shapes and slightly neater V-shapes.
  11. Don't remember any issues. Check with Mark whether that particular part is OK. I can't tell from the photo. You don't have much overlap on the arm seams though. If you're going Endor style and you find the bubble lenses are difficult to see through, don't be scared to change to flat lenses. They are just as (or possible more) appropriate/accurate for the Forest "stunt" troopers and make life a lot easier.
  12. Looks good to me so far. Are you going to keep it clean and shiny or are you going for a dirty Endor Forest weathering job?
  13. Can't add anything to what Paul said but, what an improvement! Well done, sir!
  14. Cheers, chaps. I guess I'm lucky with having a good stormtrooper build (although getting my weight down from 180 to 155 lbs and keeping it there has had very little to do with luck and a lot to do with discipline). Looking at the way armour fits me, I must have a similar build and heigth to the short trooper in the front row of this famous picture ...
  15. The belt you put together for me was excellent. You apologised for it so much in advance I didn't know what to expect. Turns out it was top notch.
  16. Quite clearly TE/AP/Gino lineage parts. Unless this seller has leginimately acquired the moulds, this is indeed recast.

    A Salute to TM

    Never heard of him.
  18. Well, yes! Plastic for canoes and fish ponds!
  19. I was trooping in Madrid (as a Gunner) once and one of my Garrison mates obviously forgot the whole back story/staying in character thing and mentioned to a young couple I was from England. They came over and asked if I was from England, to which I answered "No, I'm from Tatooine". "Ah", the girl replied, "Argentina! Your colleague said you were English!" The Rom-FX must've been set to a high level of distortion!
