Hey all, I was going through some of my favs on YouTube and I came across this video. It is the 1977 computer graphics of the plans for the Deathstar in the first Star Wars film and was created by Larry Cuba in the 1970s at the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) (at the time known as the Circle Graphics Habitat. I do some CG work with After Effects and a few other programs. But I just geek out on this. At the time this was sate of the art. This is how far computer graphics have come.... ENJOY! Tony's is a police officer out there, and it keeps him hopping. Deckard's will be ABS, so it should be a better match to your armor... PM sent with Deckard's email address. -

RogueTrooper replied to Femtrooper Julie's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Hey Julie, Whazzzzup? Are you looking for an ABS or a HIPS knee plate? If you are needing HIPS, just contact the man in Honolulu, HPDBlues, since he is near you. If you are needing an ABS that would have the right white color tone to your suit, contact Deckard. Both of them should be able to be reached by their PM's About anybody here that makes armor would sell you a knee plate with no problems. But, since Tony is so close to you, thought the S&H and time factor would be easier. Your armor is a derivative of FX which is now the new and improved AM. -

The Mystery of the Brown Boxes
RogueTrooper replied to RogueTrooper's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Hey All, Just wanted to check in and touch base with everyone. A few people have asked about updates and progress on my armor, I wanted to apologize for not responding any sooner. But, in the past several months I have had some major blows hit me. One of which was the death of my Aunt that I was very close to (almost like a second mom). She was diagnosed with COPD and had been suffering from this ailment for awhile. She had gotten progressively worse over several years, to the point that she was bedridden in February of this year. I took time to go and help take care of her. My Uncle is up in years and could not do all that had to be done for her. She passed away in June. Afterwards, my Uncle, who has always been a very strong person, (I always thought of him as the John Wayne type) took his wifeĆ¢ā¬ā¢s passing extremely badly. He recounted to me about he would count how many breaths my Aunt took in a minute, and kept recounting to me her last few moments on earth. His lack of rest and his state of mind throughout this landed him in the hospital with pneumonia. He has lost his will to live. I have been spending a lot of time with him, trying to get him back to being strong both mentally and physically. On top of all of this, I caught my girlfriend of 5 years, cheating on me and needless to say we are no longer together. The past few months my mind has not been on armor building. I got such a great suit from Tony and really wanted to spend time putting it together, but it has been sitting in the box since I took photographs of it when it arrived. I hope to start work on it in the near future. I wish everyone on the FISD the very best and hope to be back posting soon. Tom -

You are correct Michael,Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene is a form of styrene, but is more commonly called ABS. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS):Has a more rubber content than Polystyrene, but ABS is still tough with rigidity. And if you talk to plastic dealers, they call High-Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) Just styrene. -

The suit that you pulled up from Ebay is a recast of TE2, which is not condoned. Makerofthings uses 0.060g ga./15mm HIPS, which is very thin and will not stand up to many troopings. Not to mention, the helmet you get from him, I have heard, has major cracks and problems. This means that you would have to do some serious work to it. One of the other things that you need to look at, when trooping, is the thickness of the material. Most good suits of armor are made out of 0.080/2.0mm to 0.090/2.25mm material thickness. Any material thinner than the 0.080/2.0mm, will not stand a lot of trooping. I Pm'd you with two good connections for armor. Terrell, Deckerd and all of the other armor makers here, have good reputations and take care of their customers. -
Nice pix I like that you didn't go overboard with the weathering

To answer your question, the ATA armor is made of HIPS, also around here HIPS is commonly called styrene. It is a flexible plastic and when cast, tends to have sharp details. But, will need to be painted to have the proper finish of a TK. The AM armor is made from ABS, which is a shiny plastic that has the color through and through. It is a harder material than the HIPS, but can tend to lose some of the details when casting. The AM armor is the next generation of FX. The details are sharper than it's predecessor FX. Search through and find some of the builds under: AM/Tupperware and ATA, so you can see how they look. Here are a couple of builds to get you started: TKittell's AM/Tupperware build: --------- Darktooper's ATA build: --------- -

Hey Ben, The Rubies armor was made more in the style of the ROTJ armor and if you are going to try and mod it, you are going to have a lot of work to do o get it to the ANH style. The Rubies armor has a trim around certain areas of it and to get it to look like ANH you will have to sand down the trim molding that the suit has, to get it like the ANH. This means you will have to paint the suit, get new hand plates, helmet, etc. My suggestion is keep the suit or sell it and possibly (if your budget is tight) look into getting an ATA or maybe an AM kit. In the long run you are going to spend the same amount of money trying to mod the Rubies to get it up to snuff. Here are some of the links to some people who have already modified the Rubies, so you can kind of see what you are going to have to go through: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=5642&st=20'> -------------- -

The Mystery of the Brown Boxes
RogueTrooper replied to RogueTrooper's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Ahh!! Spectators...Spectacular!! To answer the question, that is not my door step, that is actually a wall in my house. This is my door that I built. I designed it with key elements from Star Wars. I made it to have the look of beaten, worn metal like the Jawa Sandcrawler, and Jabba's Palace door, and a couple of things from The Millennium Falcon. And to finish out the door, there are nine coin slots on the top and nine on the bottom. The nine coin slots represent the design elements from Darth Vader and R2D2. There are three coin slots on Darth Vader's chest plate and the six coin slots on R2D2's side panel, a total of nine. And, to round it out, I made a round switch plate, with blinking lights in the design of the ones in the Lars homestead and Ben's hut on Tatooine. The green and red lit buttons, represent the green and red greeblies on the ANH Darth Vaders's chest plate. Now, shall we continue with the mystery of the brown boxes? Ahh!!! a clue..
