TM's own personal 1 mm ANH weatherd Armour
RogueTrooper replied to SW1's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Sorry to hear about what has happened in your life, Rolf. But, it sounds like you have a good handle on it and the main thing is that you are able to take care of your son. I can tell that he means the world to you. You are one of the nicest guys that I have met through these forums and I hate to hear that you and your son have gone through so much. If you need anything or need to talk, just PM or email me. Take care Bro, Tom To Stephen, Sorry for hijacking / OT your topic But I just read what Rolf posted here.... -
Hell have no furry like a womans scorn for star wars
RogueTrooper replied to Defiance7x13's topic in Off Topic
Not good...thanks for posting, I am going to have to go to therapy now... More than likely this was one of those fake prank jokes. What woman would be crazy enough to film themselves doing this. Then again, I have known some crazy ones. -
I am not trying to be a nit picker, just trying to help out. I know everything that is new can have glitches in them. Here are some of the things that I found to be wrong in the 501st ROTJ CRL: link to the 501st ROTJ CRL:http://501st.com/crl/TK_CRL/127_Stormtrooper_ROTJ/index127.php 01. Helmet: White fiberglass, ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), or HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene). The ANH Stunt helmet is distinguished by the following details: The gray "ear" bars have four bumps, with a black outline. Some of the ROTJ lids had 3 bumps as well as 4 bumps on the ears. Original ROTJ lids pic: The belt info is incorrect. On an ROTJ belt there are no square buttons. That is only for ANH and ESB. As you can see the photo is showing an ANH/ESB style belt with the 3 square buttons. 14. Belt: The belt consists of three parts: Belt face is made of plastic (TK ammo belt). There should be three square buttons, one centered in the middle and one on each end. Photo of the belt in the 501st ROTJ CRL: The correct way for an ROTJ belt(without three square buttons): The section about the ROTJ blaster (23. Blaster Details: A screen accurate BlasTech E-11 blaster should have the following) is confusing and is somewhat missing information. There should not be any mention of a Hengstler, since that was only in ANH. There is no mention of a D ring being on the mag side at the muzzle. There should be no mention of T track because that was only in ANH and ESB. It should say U shaped channel or half circle channel, and there should be 7 total of those. There is major overlapping of information from other versions of the E11. This needs to be more precise.

HWT Pack for FISD Staff Member

Top notch pack, John I love that it has the two comparments, so you can hold all your swag in them. -
I think Hamill is up for talking and doing anything about Star Wars, right now. When I met him at C5, he seemed very energetic about the whole experience. But, he is also trying to promote his Black Pearl movie project and using the SW forum to boost it. As for Ford, SW does seem to be a litle bit beneath him. I have a video of him doing an interview from the set of Indy 3, where he states that he did not like the Solo character at all and he found the Indy character to be a more interesting and gratifying role to play. But, since Indy 4 bombed, he may need to get back in the good graces of loyal fans. So, you never know. As for the prequels, I think it would really be fun to hear Jake Lloyds unabridged commentary over the EP1 film. Since he doesn't seem to really care for the SW thing anymore. How could you blame him, he's gotten death threats and ridicule for the past 11 years. He seems to be a very bitter guy now. He knows that his acting was not up to par and people that have good taste, really didn't care for the way his character was portrayed. But, he still doesn't mind going to these events and making money off the people, that for some reason, want his autograph. Beleive me, I would not be in his autograph line...wait a minute...there would probably not be a line at all. Jake Lloyd: Ten Years After Star Wars Ep One Very awkward interview with Jake lloyd Unfortunately, I think the only way that you would get an unbiased commentary from most of the actors is for Lucas not to be involved in it. .

I agree with Brian,"better to go with one of the reputable vendors and build it out yourself to your individual specs". You never know what you are going to get when it comes to product on Ebay. 99.99% of the time, it is going to be inferior recast or someones broken/disgarded rubble of stuff. You have to also look at the fact if some shows only one pic and you barely can tell what's there, then they probably have something to hide. For $800USD you could purchase almost any one of the new kits from one of the reputable vendors here. Granted you do get some of the add-ons with this, but that doesn't out weigh the possible headaches that may occur from having to fix, replace and spend more money to get it right where you want it.

Congrats Jason! Take your time with your build. Measure four times, cut once. Take lots of pix and post them as often as you can Also: Basic tools needed for armour building Have Fun man!!! -
t Yeah, they barely had time and budget to paint the outside of the original screen used lids let alone the inside. A wise man once said, "There is a big difference between screen accurate and screen idealized". It's your kit Kirby, if you do want to paint the inside, go for it.

The AM kits have really large biceps. If you are cutting it down to fit a normal size bicep, there is going to be mis-alignment. To get them to line up, you are going to have to manipulate the ABS. I think the best solution would be to use the heat sealing iron method. But do some test first on scrap material to get the hang of the process. The method is easy to do and you can get excellent results. Just look at the link and the two videos below. You can purchase a heat sealing iron at most hobby shops that sell RC airplane kits. HOWTO: Make a return edge on armor using a heat sealing iron: ----

Basically it does help to keep down light/glare inside the helmet. Some of the Troopers like it just because it looks cool. As to the theory of temperature control, white reflects heat where as black or dark colors absorb heat. In theory this is the way it should react, but I don't think there is enough there to make any difference. I think the basic two reasons are, it looks cool and keeps down the light and glare inside the helmet so your eyes can focus better.

Don't ya just love it when you are in a Home improvement/hardware store, trying to see if you might run across that little greeblie for whatever you are working on, when an associate ask ya if they can help you, and ask "what is your project".... I joke with them and say, It's either going to be some prop thing or a weapon of mass destruction. You can see the look on the face when I say that to them Then I tell them I am joking...maybe.... They either help me with what I am doing OR leave me alone... Either way, it is loads of fun.

Yeah there are 6 different versions, five from ANH '77 and one from ANH '97 SE You can check it out over on the MEPD. Also look at the =====

TM helmet all finished!
RogueTrooper replied to TKTrev's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Top notch TM lid...all around a very nice helmet collection Patrick, I know that your expertise is in knowing about Clone Troopers. Other than some battle weathering/scarring in some of the paint jobs, the Clones are usually painted evenly, unlike the original screen used TK and TD lids where they were painted extremely hastily. But, I think that gives them a charm. I think Karin/Sonnenschein was trying to show you in her post, but I don't think the pic that she posted of the original screen used lid had the correct angle so you could see the wonky frown paint job that well. So here are some better pix of a few of the original lids. You can see how gnarly and imperfect the frowns are. Ain't they beautiful? -
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like the technical side of the commentary from the SW DVD's. My only problem is that you are hearing the same thing from Lucas, Muren, Burtt, and Fisher. God love Carrie, maybe after all her alcohol and drug escapades, that is all she could remember. Then again, they might have had to reign her in because I remember at the Main Event at C5 she was making comments after they showed the deleted scene from Jedi, that there was another deleted scene from from the film. Carrie with her sharp tongued wit, made an off hand joke about them taking out the porno scene between her and Jabba. You could tell George was extremely taken a back and was worried because there were five year olds in the audience. I just felt the stuff in the commentary was redundant and had been said time and time again in a lot of other videos, articles and interviews. But, I guess if you haven't seen or read about this prior to the DVD's coming out, then it would be news to you. I truly would love to see them lay commentary tracks out for the blu-rays like this: Separate track with the principle actors. Separate track with the secondary cast. Separate track with the ILM staff. Separate track with makeup, wardrobe, and set design/production. Separate track with the editors. Separate track with the stunt department. Separate track with the writer, director, and producer. I think with this format you would get the war stories and the technical side and it would be a great balance. I also think they need to do it quickly, because some have already passed away and the rest aren't spring chickens either.

Need some advice for forearm fitting
RogueTrooper replied to bm459's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I think you could do the heat sealing iron method. It's very quick and you can get a great finish to it. But do some test first on scrap material to get the hang of the process. If you want to achieve a more accurate look to the screen TKs, then add the finishing/cover strips. And just remember, the original screen used armor wasn't assembled perfectly either.( a lot of wonkiness to them) So, do your best Here's the link to "using a heat sealing iron": ---- Also, here's Terrys' HOW TO videos, They're great: -
Unfortunately it is more of a trick <_< BTW, anybody want to buy some ocean front property in Kansas

I love DVD commentary. A lot of my friends hate coming over and watching a new DVD because usually one of the first things that I do is, to watch the movie with the commentary on, especially if I have already seen the movie in the theatre. This drives my friends nuts. I do think that the commentary for the SW 6 film saga was heavily done with the technical aspects of the movie. Pretty much each person that was in the SW commentary was involved in mainly the technical aspects, from each facet eg. production, sound department, special effects department, director, writer, actor and in the prequels they had stunts and model making. If you look at all of those, there are not many that would not be involved in the technical side of the movie other than the actors point of view and the writers point of view. I think George looks more toward the technical side of the films, instead of the spirit of the movie. Just look at the prequels, no character development and no great story, just a lot of CG and special effects. For the commentaries throughout all 6 movies, it seemed to me at least, it was a Q & A session and then they took the best parts of it and edited it to fit over sections of the movie. In other words rehearsed/scripted, rather than someone actually sitting there watching the movie and commenting on it. I will say one of my favorite commentaries was Kirshners. I thought he did give something of an insight into the story line and character development and not so much about the technical aspects. He also had some funny anecdotes. One of my favorite movie commentaries is the LOTR extended Trilogy. If you look at them, you will see where they did have everyone from all different departments, but they were on separate tracks and it wasn't cut and spliced like the SW DVD's. I think in a way LOTR extended DVD commentaries spoiled future commentaries for everyone else. You could tell they were not scripted and were sitting there and were watching the film as they spoke. This commentary was not just about the technical side of the movies but stories of what they went through and what happened while filming. Such as, Viggo Mortensen breaking his big toe while kicking one of the Uruks helmets, and when he screams in the film, he is actually screaming from the pain from his toe and when the film was edited that cut was left in. Or, John Rhys-Davies having a skin allergy to his make-up, which made him self-conscious about going out with any of the other people on the set afterwards for dinner or drinks. But it made him keep to himself in his hotel room. Or Ian McKellen turning around in Bilbos home, and accidentally hitting his head on a door way. McKellen kept in character, and they used the scene in the movie... What I think George had in mind was to only give you what you need and not what you want when they made the commentaries, because he knew that the SW saga was going to come out on blu-ray with all new commentary, trivia, pop ups, etc. If you think about it, if they had already used up something great for the standard disc, then you wouldn't be overwhelmed with the next evolution of disc media. The blu-rays will probably not have everything that SW fans are looking for, because that is how it is done when it comes to SW. George knows how to market things. Always keep you wanting for more....
