  1. Well its been almost 6 years since the initial TK build and Ive explored pretty much all I wanted to with that. Im very proud of it but I need new challenges and things to work towards to avoid stagnating. I recently set a goal to have all the R1 kits designed and hopefully in kit form by next year for the 10th Anniversary. I have had some bits and pieces made for other kits so Im slowly going back and redoing stuff to build up the parts catalogue for the TK. A little about the timeline of what to expect: To start off with Ill show off the renders as well as WIP to ensure that the design is PERFECT. I want feedback from anyone and everyone. The OTTK kits are sort of locked in to how theyre produced as accuracy to form comes above all else but with this we can add some QOL things that will make building and trooping easier! Not having made new era costumes before I want to know pain points and what you feel is missing or is needed in a new kit! I am planning to do the kit as mixed media in terms of material. All simple forms will be vac formed however the intricate detail and things that require sharp edges will be done in flexible urethane. I would like to eventually mould the Vac bucks and do Polyurea casts in silicone moulds however I need to do more research as Im not sure if people would be willing to pay 2+ thousand just for a kit if thats what the cost will be. But its on the table. I need to ensure that there is no V2, and it gets done right the first time! The armour will be done first and then the helmet as I expect the helmet to take a very long time. Ive recently completed a Patrol helmet that I have stacked up against Sams original renders and the proportions are bang on so its a great starting point to mod the files back to a TK. Im aiming to start printing moulds by end of year as thats when the weather is good for resin printing. and I will have less on that will distract me! Looking forward to bringing my expertise and experience to this kit. I know I had to be ready rather than just pump and dump another kit and the time is now!

  2. Here is the Bicep. Please note I havent added the interior overlap and seam yet. I may make the inset recess on the cover strips thinner and smooth the hard corners a bit more buit Im just exploring the correct forms at the moment so just sussing if Im on the right track before I do nitty gritty. Im not 100% sure on the armpit cutout, should it be more pointy/less rounded?

  4. I was probably there in 2023! You can join the group and forum any time. No need to wait for approval, you can view & post on the armor questions and others. You look like you are just about there. If you had questions for the GML on approval, you can ask them in both places. Get to know your wacky band of misfits you will be joining.

  5. Thank you, Jim. That is actually my plan but I wanted to wait till I have my armor complete to the level I would like it to be. Or could I just submit now and keep working on it? I met a few of you guys, I guess, 2023 at DIA. That's when I started thinking it would be really fun to join you.

  6. Hi, @DohF4 If you are going for 501st approval for your kit and haven't already, please take a look and consider joining the Colorado Mountain Garrison. https://www.mg501.com/forum/ You can get involved here for troops and other fun local events. I am also a 40-years-later stormtrooper, so welcome to the club.

  7. Dave usually sends a flat sheet of ABS to make your outer cover strips with.

  8. The back. I havent added the very small detials yet including most of the small cut outs. If I cut them now I cant go back and edit the form as easy so want to get the shape right before doing final detail.

  9. Chest I had done a while ago when I did my R1 TIE. Im feeling a little more confident in it not being too thin and straight as a lot of other ones are but I cant tell if the ortho shots have squashed it too wide now. Toying with the idea of casting in the shoulder recepticals or casting them with the straps. Havent decided yet.

  10. First up is the shoulder. I noticed where the raised strip is on the bottom, it isnt a hard edge either side and is soft. hard to explain but I hope I got that right. Going off some images from celebration they dont seem to be completely symetrical and have a very slight wonkyness to it if Im not mistaken. Mainly in the curves on the right where it siits agianst the chest.

  11. You will find vac formed plastic is misshaped and thin from the process, I do however use these offcuts for inner cover strips (mainly shins as they are flexed a lot) Before you make any cuts do a trial fit, you don't want to cut too much off, hard to get back on Sizing of cover strips Forearms/Biceps @15mm Thighs 20mm Shins Front 20mm, Rear 25mm (for velcro) Yes you can go bigger with cover strips if you need too A few threads on cover strips Cover Strips threads: gazmosis, I'm Batman, sith_241, & Falciform13 ANH & ESB Cover Strip lengths and Ends by CableGuy Scribe technique for Cover Strips by chiefbonan
