Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advance to 1500 Advanced Tactics Awards Newsletter Editor Staff List 2025 Follow FISD Greetings Troopers, An eventful month for all things Star Wars, starting off with Celebration in Japan. For those of you who were able to attend I hope you had a great time. It looks like this was a good one. The next one returns to the USA, to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center I am sure the team over in California will put on a great event. We've also seen Andor return for Season 2. No spoilers from me for those of you who have not caught up yet. Just as a note for anyone looking to work on any new costumes that are featured in the show that LMO will not be taking any potential new costumes until the season is complete. This is to ensure that any costumes are fully understood before any decisions are made as to which detachment would be appropriate. This month also saw the Captain Enoch CRL submitted to LMO. This is a great step toward this CRL being completed. It's worth noting that this process takes some time, and we're not at the front of the queue. There is also a possibility that the LMO will want changes to the text, or images prior to approval. There is also another issue which will slow down the approval process. The old CRL system you are all aware of is being migrated to a new system. The old system has been struggling for a long time and is now in the process of being replaced. The FISD part of this process has been completed but there is still work to be completed before the new system can be launched. Until this new CRL system is in place no new CRLs will be being approved. The current estimates are this will be launching "soon" with the Web and LMO teams working hard on getting this done. With Unquestioned Loyalty Chris Pearson TK-10991 "themaninthesuitcase" Detachment Leader Greetings Troopers! Hope everyone survived SWCJ and the May the 4th Trooping extravaganza. This TK did 5 troops in 3 days, 32 hrs in Armor! It was fun as always. But on to the merch! Old Business "FISD EIB Coins" EI coins are still available. I'm down to 12 left. If you are eligible, please look into it. In order to buy one, you have to have an approved EI costume and you can not have ever bought an EIB coin from any pervious runs. EIB coins are a once and done coin. If you have this one and would prefer one of the older versions, I may have an option for you so please dm me. EIB v11 coin run is open "FISD Stepping Out Challenge Coin" There has been some issues with this coin. Updates can be found in the sales thread below. But long and short, All the international orders have shipped to the regional distributors. The North and South America coins (as well as a few that didn't fit in the regional distributors areas) are being held up while I work with the vendor to navigate the tariff charges from China to the US. The import duty DHL wanted to collect was more than we paid for all the coins, combined, so needless to say, they haven't shipped yet. Additional information about this run can be found here. Merch Poll for 2025 is still up. You can find the poll thread here. But the FISD/MEPD Dual Detachment Spinner coin run is closed, and the order has been placed. You can learn more about the run here New Business Staff is currently discussing the next merch run. We have a few options on the table and we plan on posting a poll in the very near future to get feedback from the membership on what they would like to see. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. More information can be found here Armorer Rocker Patches Rocker patches are now available for the Armorer Program, there is currently just the one patch, and members are eligible to receive two of them once they reach Level 2, "Armorer". More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. For those interested here is the original discussion on the creation of Fire teams here With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Keep in mind that no question is too small, and that your queries will only be seen by the D.O. Staff. We are here to help in any way we can, so please feel free to send us a message by clicking on this link: @Deployment Officer Team and we will get back to you A.S.A.P.! More info here This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy and obtained EIB or Centurion or both. Vendor list will need an update, the majority of Etsy links are no longer working, Etsy has been removing blaster/pistols/sidearms from their site so no doubt a lot of sellers are leaving Etsy. I've reached out to a few of the vendors to see if they have setup other sites for sale items. If you are a vendor of any of these items please post the information and the thread will be updated1 point

That weird flaring on the top right side of the kidney was bugging me, so I dealt with it today just so I could be done with it. I taped the side together and decided that I could get away with just dunking the top corner of the kidney into boiling water. I made sure to tape off a "submerge point" as a guide so I would know how deep to submerge the piece. I just needed that top corner to soften a bit so I could flatten it out. Here's what it looked like in the beginning. Well, hello there! After a few dips into the boiling water and shaping, I brought that kidney in line. It was better. But I still had some weird lumping going on at the end of the kidney's return edge. Can you see it? Looks so sloppy. To smooth out those extra lumps in the returns, I used a heat sealing iron. For super small areas like this, the heat sealing iron works well because it only heats up the areas that it is in contact with. I don't use a sock or anything on it, but just put the iron on the plastic. I don't use much pressure at all, but rather, wait patiently for the heat to soften the ABS just a little. I use my paint stick piece to smooth and cool things. Here's a before and after. The before shot is before the hot water bath and heat sealing iron. The after is, well... after it all. Before and after: Better, isn't it?1 point

I removed my brackets so I could countersink the screws, so I figured it would be a good time to attach the ab section to the kidney since everything was already taken apart. There's only one thing I dislike more than removing and reattaching bracket screws and nuts. Wanna know what it is? Attaching the kidney/ab split rivets! Just a reminder for you Vertically Challenged Troopers: if you're going for Centurion, be sure to line up the tops of the kidney and ab when you get to this phase of the build. How things are lined up at the bottoms of the kidney/ab won't matter because they're hidden by the belt. Now, with that out of the way, here's how I've lined my ab and kidney up! There's a little flaring going on at the top of the kidney in that photo, and I may still reshape it with some hot water. But everything else is fitting together as it should. Want to see how I've got this so nicely lined up securely like that? Well, first thing is that the split rivets were installed on the opposite side. Duh. I've got the areas around the holes reinforced with an extra strip of ABS for strength on the AB and kidney. Each strip is about 30mm wide and cut to fit the kidney and ab. This area takes a lot of stress and can be prone to cracking, so I want it to be strong from the start. Some people like to use nylon webbing for this connection, but I use elastic. The armor wants to stretch and move around when you wear it. If I use nylon strapping, then the holes take most of the stress and can result in cracks where the split rivets are installed. With elastic, the armor has a little 'give' to it, thus reducing the strain on the holes. I use 1" elastic, and it's doubled up- that is, I use two layers of elastic at these connections. I have never had a connection like this fail on my other set of armor. It's strong and flexible and has worked for me, so that's what I use. Now to the other side... Split rivets installed. I covered the rivets with tape on the outside when I hammered the legs down to prevent excess scratching to the rivet heads. Taping them down also helps keep the rivets in place when setting them. And you want to see how I keep the ab/kidney all nice and stable without a belt? Taaa-daaa! A tab! I can't remember who suggested this to me on my first build (I think it was Jorge?), but it helps keep the armor from shifting around on the right side connection and kind of 'locks' the ab/kidney together. Now I know we all have the Han snap and can use that, but why use that puny connection all by itself? I use both. I made two 1"x1" ABS squares and glued them to the ab: one was glued just below the Han snap, and the other was glued to the ridge above where the cod begins on the ab. Then I made a measurement of the length between the outer ends of both the squares, cut a 1" piece of ABS in that length, and glued it to the squares. That creates a slot for the tab. For the tab itself, I cut a piece of thin black styrene (black because I want it to blend in with my undersuit!) in a rectangle shape. I used .04 thick black styrene for this. I measured the width of the space within the slot and cut it to that size. You want enough length on it for it to have lots of surface to glue it to the kidney, and a few inches extra to go into the slot on the ab. Important! Use e6000 when gluing the tab to the kidney! I can't tell you how many times I've need to make adjustments once things were glued in there- which required removal and reattachment of that tab. You've been warned! And that's it for now. Next, time to channel my inner Thor, get out the hammer, and make some snap plates!1 point
