Combined July and August's Newsletter as we missed July and halfway through August. http://i.imgur.com/G3ninZq.png http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/inthisissue.png In Memoriam From the DL Around the Detachment Notable Troops Advanced Tactics Awards Follow FISD http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/fromthedetachmentleader.png From the DL August is certainly the time us Americans as well as Europeans take off for vacation. There are no major holidays (US at least), the kids are out of school, and everyone seems to be outdoors. For the 501st that means a very busy trooping calendar, and for your FISD staff we are no exception. This month's newsletter is pretty light and there hasn't been much progress on our initiatives. With the cooler weather returning in the Autumn and the return of regular schedules, here is what to expect for the fall quarter on FISD: CRL Updates Magma, HWTv2, and the R1 deployed troopers are all moving to MEPD. We'll help them get those to done as best we can, as they started here and want to assist our dirty brothers. HWTv1: I went through it and we'll probably change some wording to ensure it's clear this CRL is only for the original game, not the new ones. R1 TK: We'll get this done on a big push. All we are waiting on now is photos and someone to submit their fully built suit. TFA TK & Phasma: We'll get EI & Centurion standards squared away. Merch A SpecOps/FISD joint coin design should be complete, and also watch for a new regular coin run as we are out of EI coins. Forum updates The goal is to fix the EI/Centurion list page and also provide a real-time list of Attaches. Honestly, I think that will keep everyone busy for the fall but we are always looking for good ideas. What do you think the staff should be working on the rest of the year? With unquestioned loyalty, Paul “Daetrin” TK-8020 FISD Detachment Leader http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/aroundthedetachment.png COMPETITIONS 2 New Contests! We have 2 new contests open... One for those who already have their 501st TK approval, and one for those who are in the process of building their first set of armor. Entering is easy, and there is some cool swag to be given away. Both contests end at the end of August, and the winners will be selected by our Imperial Attache team. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal, we only have 5 months left to successfully reach it. The amount of approved submissions is increasing (almost 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program, there is a link below** that will help. You can also contact myself or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! ** https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35371-eib-and-centurion-what-do-these-terms-mean/ With Unquestioned Loyalty, Joseph Pedigo TK-10963 "justjoseph63" FISD Amabassador http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/followfisd.png Don't Forget We're on Facebook and Twitter! Hello. Newbie builder here...I'm more comfortable behind the sewing machine instead of the plastic...but here goes. I'll post (to the best of my ability) my TK Stunt build here for anyone interested. Kit by: Walt's Trooper Factory / Stunt TK I'm on the short side for a trooper (yes I've heard the joke)...5'4" So I plan on making a lot of trimming mods. Here goes!1 point

I stated to prep the cylinder to hold the sounds cards. I originally were gonna place them in the Hengslter (easy fit, hard to hide wires). I realized the sound card was too "tall". To remedy I removed the speaker jst connector and soldered directly to the pins. Them bent them at an angle. next I encased the cards in heat shrink. Made sure I labeled which was stun and blast. To make it fit better I dremeled flat spaces on the barrel. This will make it easy to mount and slide in the barrel.1 point

Thanks man! Feels so awesome! I will make Kylo super proud. Driving over to TK-50501's place to take pictures later today, he takes great pictures.1 point

Hi Sergio, congratulations to your armor. RS is making great quality. Though adjustments are needed if you buy a fully commissioned armor that is not made to your individual size. For a basic approval a small gap should be no problem. But if you want a more accurate look close it. Installing shims is the solution... or reducing your size.1 point

Thanks I know very little about electronics. Lots of google and burned electronics.1 point

Wow, when you get down to the end it all just comes together at once. Thursday's shop night was the cherry on the top of this Sunday. I have submitted my pics to the garrison. I have tweaks to make before I even think about Expert Infantryman or Centurion, but I wanted to get done in time to troop at DragonCon this year.1 point

I next started on routing the power to the sounds boards and lights. I made another cast of the barrel chamber and started carving. I made space for two 3 wire junction boxes. Ones is power in from the pistol grip and the other is power out. I also installed a RGB LED next I poured resin on top of it to sealed and secure the components. Make sure you cover the bulb and connections with mold making compound. Otherwise you have a solid brick attached to 10mm aluminium "barrel" and connect to wires from pistol grip.1 point

The Novus system is great, and will serve you well in the future for small jobs but it may not get out that deep of a scratch. As mentioned, the wet sanding will probably be your best bet and then follow that up with the car compound.1 point

From my experience, you can ship parts as long as there are no pieces of the firing mechanism involved. I've ordered pistol grips, scopes, scope mounts, etc. from the US to EU with no problem. Complete replicas are a different story. According to a TSA agent I spoke with, they are treated like real firearms for the purposes of shipping and travel. But even with parts and kits, things are not always cut and dry. Here's a little situation I had recently... I work at the USG facility overseas. Ordering firearms or replicas through our diplomatic/military mail system is a no go as they would be stopped Stateside but local mail is fair game because local (EU and German) laws are in effect. So, I ordered a DoopyDoos DL-44 kit ("kit", as in solid, cream colored resin... in pieces, is the operative word here) and had it shipped from England to Germany. There were no customs issues as it was within the EU but our own security had a conniption fit when it arrived at Post. A buddy of mine in the mailroom called me and said, "You need to get out to the mail screening room NOW. You got a package and security is flipping out." I, of course, knew exactly what it was so I wasn't the slightest bit concerned. I walk into the room and there are two armed local guards and a federal agent, all looking very nervous and waiting to question me about the package. Undaunted, I said, "So, I hear I have a package?" At that moment I saw it and walked over to examine it. One of the guards stammers, "Do you know what's in this?" "I do indeed. It's a resin replica kit of a blaster prop used in Star Wars." I noticed by this point that the package is open, so they've not only x-rayed it, but opened and examined it as well. I'm grinning and trying not to laugh. I open the box and pull the ziplock bags containing the resin parts out of the box. "The pieces are SOLID resin. See? No moving parts." The guard says, "But... but... it has a firing pin." "Nope. No firing pin. No springs. No bolt. No ammunition. Solid plastic. The metal parts are just screws and couple of decorative pieces." They looked at the pieces carefully and became very apologetic. I scooped up my box and was on my way. The point of this story is that these are people who carry weapons all day, every day and yet they couldn't determine that these were hunks of plastic after examining them so it's easy to see that postal workers or customs officials may also err on the side of caution and reject the package.1 point
