stoic_af Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Hi all from Chico, CA. I figured after skulking various subreddits over the past ten years or so I’d finally take the first steps in being a part of this community. Honestly the kicker was my wife buying me someone’s vest she found at a thrift shop. That vest has a lot of history and I hoped to find the person it belongs to, or if they are no longer with us find out who they were. I don’t feel I have the right to wear it so I’d like to find another way to return it to use. The photos are too big to share here but I’ll gladly share with anyone wanting to see them. There are patches dated 2006 to 2011, marked FISD. Quote
Sithping[TK] Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Hi Matt, Welcome to Whitearmor! I'm based in Scotland, but I'm sure someone here will be able to help with your vest. 1 Quote
stoic_af Posted January 21 Author Report Posted January 21 You have some beautiful countryside! I would love to visit some day and see the highlands. 1 Quote

Hello and welcome, the forum has a limit on how big and how many images that can be posted, many of us use a free image host Imgur, upload there then copy and paste the "direct link" into your forum post. There are many other free image hosts if Imgur doesn't work for you 1 Quote

stoic_af Posted January 21 Author Report Posted January 21 That’s really cool. I don’t really know what to do with it. I might frame it or something. I’d feel weird wearing it, like stolen valor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

Nairy[Staff] Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 Hey Matt! Now that we have you here, have you heard about our Lord Vader? Can we persuade you into getting a Stormtrooper armor for the Emperors cause and become one of us? 1 1 Quote
stoic_af Posted January 22 Author Report Posted January 22 I’m actually in the market for a set of armor, I just need to find a cost effective way to acquire it. I don’t own any special DIY stuff other than a 3d printer. No vacuum forming equipment. So I’m hoping to find a vendor that will sell something pretty close to authorized armor so I don’t have to do much alterations to make it official. But yeah, I’m ready to join the empire. 1 Quote

You will find most armor is vac formed plastic as there was not 3D printing way back when. A great thread to start your research. Another great thread full of useful info You can also look at others builds, many have the name of the maker in the titles of their build threads Quote
stoic_af Posted January 24 Author Report Posted January 24 That first thread that's supposed to show recommended armor vendors is coming up on 16 years old. I have to imagine a lot has changed, some vendors have retired, there are new vendors out there. It would be helpful if there was an update, or a whole new thread of armor vendors. That said, it's very overwhelming. I have no idea where to start. If I try to save money and get untrimmed pieces what tools will I need? Quote

Altlhough the thread may have been started 16 years ago you may have missed that it is periodically updated, last in 2024 so it's pretty up to date, and that's in the first post. There is some research that goes into this hobby and yes it can be overwhelming, take your time, look through others build threads, you can see differences between makers, accuracy, durability, pricing is another thing to think about, as well as shipping. You will find information about tools, what other items are needed in the second thread I posted. 1 Quote
themaninthesuitcase[Admin] Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Welcome Matt! As Glen says that post is updated as often as it needs to be. The armour situation is pretty stable at the moment and it's been a while since it's change so 2024 is plenty up to date. Make sure you take your time and read up, we're always happy to help you. A little work up front can save expensive heart ache later. 1 Quote
Tzag[TK] Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 (edited) Hello and welcome to our forum!!! That is an excellent choice! You should definitely check the other forum threads, watch videos, check also the CRLs in the site and of course never feel shy to ask anything about that!! We are always here for help!! There are plenty of options to start if you are interested. You could for example buy a kit and built it yourself little by little so you will experience the full "trip" into that hobby. You could also buy a second hand armor (but first feel free to take advices from the already members), or a completely new, assembled one in your measurements. But never rush, take your time to research for everything involving vendors, and try to avoid recasters. In general , the best way is to get in contact with your local Garrison/Outpost!!! Welcome again! Edited February 7 by Tzag Quote
