What has been your most memorable troop?

Until I get my armor early next year I need to live vicariously through all of you so I thought I would ask...What has been your most memorable trooping experience? I haven't actually been on a troop yet so I don't have any stories of my own :)

My most memorable troop?  Hmmm...there have been so many.  I guess the ones that really stick out are as follows:

The Force Unleashed video game release in SF (got to within 10 feet of maybe meeting George Lucas)

Dave Prowse signing at Pier 39 in SF. Got to meet him and have some things signed.

My first Wondercon in SF.  Got to do line duty for Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and met Ray Park (Darth Maul if you didn't know ;) )

Participated in one of the stops of the last leg for The Amazing Race.  That was held at the Presidio in SF.

Make a Wish event out at Skywalker Ranch.

The Clone Wars movie premier.

Event out at Rancho Obi Wan.  Got our own private tour of the museum with Steve Sansweet.

I guess that would be it for now.  I've done this for 7 years, there are just too many to recall.

I hope you first troop is a memorable one!

pretty hard to top that   My most memorable at the moment was escorting ray park at Albuquerque comic con :)

The looks on peoples faces when they see the guy who played darth maul being followed by a garrison of stormtroopers and other characters is just amazing!

My first troop was at a large comic con, first time it had been in Perth, the crowd was so big that they closed the doors for two hours as there were just too many people inside, a number of us went into the 4 deep line of people and entertained them until the doors opened again. This troop is still as clear to me as if I was there yesterday :D

That's a lot of trooping! It sounds like you have really enjoyed your experiences. I can't wait to get my armor finished so I can join in the fun.

My very first Star Wars Weekends, some weeks ago. There's nothing like marching with 169 of your closest friends, and then the Imperial March swells out of a Disney-grade sound system. ^_^

That would be so cool! I'm definitely going to do Star Wars weekends if I ever get a chance.

I've trooped with some of the actor's (Ray Park / Peter Mayhew), shared the stage with Weird Al, did ABC's Extreme Home Makeover, and don't get me wrong, those were AWESOME!!! and I'll NEVER forget them!! (And I would LOVE to do Star Wars Weekends and maybe even Celebration)

BUT!!

The most memorable for me wasn't just one Troop, but a series of Troops for our squad's first Wish Kid. I shared the following album on facebook:

If that doesn't work, here it is in a nutshell (added when Albin posted about Parker on his TK TwoTen FB Page):

"Parker was such an amazing kid; he always found the best in any situation.
That was a rough day, but we have many fond memories of our Troops with him...
He will always be an inspiration for us."

That's just amazing! It really shows why the 501st is such a great group. I raise money for Make-a-Wish with my running team and its such a great organization.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm in the process of getting the money together for my AP set, but reading all of this further convinces me that I'm making the right choice. I personally don't want kids when I get older, but making some kids smile, even as they're fighting for their life justifies the expense for me.

I've only done 1 event so far, The Walk for Children's Tumor Foundation, and it instantly made all the waiting and work totally worth it. Seeing all the kids smiling, waving, telling me about their action figures, even one little girl telling me she wasn't afraid of me because she knew my blaster wasn't real even adults happy to see us was beyond awesome! Helping the kids and the adults forget about their problems, even for a minute, is priceless! Good luck to you and hope you'll share your experience....

It's still the Rose Parade in 2007 at Pasadena. Being able to troop with hundreds of 501st members, practicing, that endless march. All one did for 5 days was breath the 501st.

I've seen that special on the Star Wars Blue Ray set multiple times now. It never gets old!
