Rich17nwc1
Received my kit yesterday and I am starting my build tonight. First thing I will tackle is the sniper plate, I will be marking it and posting pictures before I do my first cut. Since this is my first build I want to make sure I am marking correctly. Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice. Rich
matt black
Hi Richard, good to have you here. It's a very exciting time, the start of a build. Remember to take your time and ask any questions that you have. What armour do you have
Rich17nwc1
I have an ATA Stunt. Getting ready to post first pictures... been reading and reviewing tons of threads and pictures, and hopefully what I have envisioning is correct... I do have my first question... how do I determine the width of the cover strip for my shins?
Locitus[Admin]
Shins are best joind with ~20 mm cover strips. You can stray from this measure if you need to but if you use 20mm for the legs and 15 mm for the arms you get the right proportions. Good luck and keep posting! SCTrooper[TK]
Richard, the standard is 20mm for the front of the shins and 25mm or larger if needed for the back of the shins. Enjoy your build. edit: Mathias beat me to it! Edited April 26, 2012 by SCTrooper
RS Prop Masters
Its 20mm, but in reality 21 or 22 is fine, the originals are not even too square and vary along the length by a mm here and there. Thats the front, 24-25 for the back. All the strips on the legs are 20(ish) except the rear shins. Rob.
Rich17nwc1
Here are the photos of my planned snipe plate cuts, do they look like they are in the right place? Thanks Rich
darksideemt
looks ok. you will probably have to get rid of a little more of the return edge on the bottom. After you cut see how it lines up with the shin and then you will see if it needs to be trimmed more.
SCTrooper[TK]
This will give you a good idea of how to trim it, looks like you have it pretty close http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=13900&hl=knee+plate&fromsearch=
Rich17nwc1
Here is my first cut, looks good, needs sanded... more difficult than I thought to snap off. decided to cut outside the line and sand it up to the desired size. Tonight I also marked one shin for trimming, but I will trim it tomorrow... unless it is a nice sunny day tomorrow and then I will be staining the fence and deck (Oh, what fun!) darksideemt
score and snapping works best on long straight pieces. you can do it on shorter, curved areas but you need to cut relief cuts every inch or so. what you said you did is always good practice as well. LadyInWhite[TK]
Yep, sounds like you're making the right decisions and doing well... the first few cuts are always the hardest (emotionally) until you get the hang of it. Sniper plate looks good to me
anphrax[TK]
Check out Ingrid's AP build link in her signature... stuff is great. Good luck
Rich17nwc1
Didn't get anything completed today, it was too nice out so I spent my day off staining the deck and fence.... now I am spending my evening reading Ingrid's build.
