I know that T*E had some issue with the ears (according to him). It's why he used ANH ears molds since it's the same shape as this ROTJ lid, which seems to be a mix between style 1 ad 2: ANH ears but machined mic tips. That will be great when we will be able to compare it with your own replica Joe! You talk about rivets...I always thought that ROTJ helmets (faceplate and cap and back) were just glued.... According to some pictures of original helmets with missing ear, there is no rivet
-
Ok! According to JoeR, a friend of T*E made some fiberglass copies of the original ROTJ helmet. It's one thing that I didn't know (always a pleasure to learn new parts of the story). So I can say that the original helmet exposed by The Prop Store of London is the one that T*E has owned. Thus we can say that this fiberglass replica and T*E's ROTJ helmets came from this original ROTJ helmet. On the top, picture taken when T*E had the original helmet. On the bottom, picture of the ROTJ helmet from The Prop Store of London. -----------

If you take a look on the tears and cap and back notches (trapezoid), you can guess the marks of the decals. ----------- I can't pretend that I'm sure it's a copy of this original...but both are close!
-
I remember this topic started by Trap Joe. If you take a look at the helmets, you can see he made two styles. One made with the Cameron Oakley shape, and the other one which is damn close to a TE ROTJ.
-
No doubt about the ears! For the faceplate and the cap and back, it's more difficult to see the diffrences. According to me, the vocoder is more sharp on the first style. Same thing for the eyes area.
-
Probably a recast of a TE2. Same defects on the cap and back and under the teeth. I really like this sentence at the end of the auction: The Helmet is an free bonus and not part of this auction and should not be considered when leaving feedback. Thus, if the helmet is a piece of sh!t, you can't say nothing!!!

You're right!!! It's funny to see that before, many of us thought that Star Wars offered to us, 5 stormtrooper helmets styles (Sandtrooper, Stunt, Hero, ESB, ROTJ). And today we know that we have Hero (reworked) and Stunt ABS in ESB and two styles in ROTJ.
-
So the moulds are ready???? Why don't you start a thread about this project??? (please please please )
-
Thanks for these informations Doug! One thing that I noticed when I worked on my Hero helmet (ANH). It was a VT ABS kit. I deformed a little the faceplate and it reminded me the ROTJ look. Thus I thought that LFL used a Hero helmet in order to create the ROTJ molds (and maybe an explanation on why there is just one Hero helmet which survived!) I know, I have a lot of imagination.

And the wonderful giant ROTS poster (Vader) on the wall. But it's a funny movie. -
ANH special edition sandtroopers / Fanboys armor?

New suits made with existing parts (essentially ROTJ armor) -
Thanks Jez. And do you know what AA use actually for his helmets lenses??? I observed the bubble lenses of the Hero helmet of a friend and it seems that it's not the same material as the green acrylic that I bought! It looks less thick (maybe 2mm)
-
I have a question about the bubbles lenses of the ROTJ helmets (and same question for Hero and TIE pilot helmets). According to Jez website, the lenses were made out of green acrylic. But I'm really curious to know how it's possible to vacuum form acrylic sheet The less thick green acrylic that I was able to find (for my ROTJ helmet) was 3mm of thickness. And it's impossible to vacuum form, it's too thick. It's possible to heat and deform, but it's not also easy as with plastic like ABS or HIPS. I never found less thick acrylic. Clear acrylic can be find in 2mm and less....but colored acrylic is in 3mm for the less thick. So anybody knows the thickness of the original lenses and if it was really acrylic? (sorry Jez, it's not against what you wrote )

Intertesting to learn that one style was made with haircell ABS and the other with a full smooth ABS. Thanks!
-
Great informations Jez! So they made new molds with plaster. That can probably explain the two types of shapes for ROTJ helmets. According to my thin experience of vacuum forming, the plaster doesn't like to receive many pulls, especially with ABS. So we can suppose that the molds were damaged and that LFL have made new molds. What gave the warped style helmets..... again, it's a supposition.

And it's really curious to see the ROTJ helmet exposed at Comic Con. Looks like the second style (with machined mic) but with ANH/ESB ears. So we certainly have two helmet styles (shape) but mixed, assembled differently. It's maybe why I see four helmet styles (but clearly made with two differents shapes) I know, I'm not really clear.
-
Great news jez. I would be very curious to see more photos of the helmets with squared frown that we know (the two first helmets I showed) Because they appears different to me (but it's probably because of the lighting, angle, etc...)

HDPE posted this insteresting pictures of a Hero ESB stormtrooper on PorpDen One thing that is strange on the first pictures, according to me, is how the tube is pinched. We can see this detail on some ROTJ helmets and of course the ANH made out of HDPE (with the flexibility of this plastic). But I never noticed it on Hero helmets
-
I would love to see the pictures of the biker scout
-
Wow, David, what a nice photo!!! This helmet looks like a ANH helmet (very sharp). According to me (but need more photos) it looks like a Hero helmet which was repainted (especially the teeth area)
-
And the HDPE seems to be hard to form (according to T*E) and I'm sure it's difficult to have the same result between two helmets than if you use ABS or HIPS.
-
Very nice paint job!
-
I agree with Paul about the helmet. It look like a ROTJ helmet and not the Hero ANH. The tube is rounder on this one. The Hero ANH have a more pinched tube and narrow. But the frown painted in grey is really strange.
-
Thanks guys! Well see Paul I never noticed this helmet in ESB but you're right, it looks close to the first style of ROTJ helmet!
-
Ok guys, I know there is no many people who like the ROTJ helmet. So for the fan, I need your help. I watched my photos library of ROTJ helmet (in order to know how I will assemble my TE ROTJ). And after many hours of comparison, it appears there is 4 styles of helmets in ROTJ. JoeR advanced 3 styles, so I'm really not sure. Here's the first style: It looks very close to an ANH helmet but made out of ABS (I always thought that LFL recasted a Hero helmet, but it's my opinion) The eyes areas looks to be thinner and sharper than the other styles Second style: Close to the first style (ANH ears, mic tips, etc...) but with a different face plate (the ROTJ face plate with the area under the left eye which seems to be thicker and less sharp vocoder) Third style: The helmet from the Comic Con. ROTJ faceplate, ANH ears, new mic tips (machined) and what appear to be a new cap and back (it looks rounder on the top) Fourth style: The best representative of the "wonky look". Machined tips, ROTJ face plate, ugly ears (especially the left ear). I can't say for the cap and back but according to me there is different shape (and not because of the assembly or the cut) I also can't say which have ESB decals and which have new decals. Now I need to know what you think because it's really possible that I make a mistake.
