  1. That what I was thinking but didn't say it very well What do you guys think about the glue v velcro solution? For blending in I think that glueing would be better, not much of a gap but do you guys think it would make much difference being at the back etc.
  2. I've tried the leg armour and to give me enough room for the fleshy bit the edges almost touch together so realistically I need only a cm gap to shim which is roughly the same with the thighs too. I was thinking of using the external shim method and basically adding a slightly wider strip of spare abs over the raised seam (FX), the under side of the over spill will have velcro on. The other side I will build up with another strip of abs then put velcro on that too so it will receive the velcro of the seam (hope that makes sense ) I was thinking of glueing the seam strip on then just securing it to the other side with velcro but a friend suggested I use velcro for both instead, so the alternative suggested would mean velcro on seam then on the other side of the calf, a strip of abs (to build up the other side to the same height) with velcro on as well the simply use another strip of abs with the velcro on the underside to stick on top of that. Are their any advantages of either way to attach the external shim or is it just personal preference. The only thing I can think of is that velcroing on the seam strip rather than glue will make it stand slightly prouder. But at the end of the day its at the back and out of sight to most people so it probably won't be noticed. Lol thats my over analyzing coming out again
  3. Thanks for the pic Agent RayBans. Anyone else have pics of any differnet ways they have shimmed, surely Agent RayBans isn't the only one
  4. I'm still deciding which way to shim my calves and thighs and have read up about all the different ways on how to do it and I gave almost decided which way. The trouble is, having one way on paper doesn't necessarily look the way I think it will so would be grateful if some of you could post pics of your shims so I can compare the picture in my head with an actual pic I still haven't made my decision on which way so pics of all different types of shims would be great. Thanks all Anne
  5. Yeah, I remember that although atttaching it to the belt is the loudest especially if you change the standard speaker that comes with the Rom and a lot of guys paint the black speaker white so it blends in more and in my experience most people are so surprised that you actually talk they don't realise that the sound isn't coming from the helmet. The problem with the hovi's in my experience so far is that they don't have much volume so its difficult for the general public to hear what's being said.
  6. I used to use shaving foam but now I use wet wipes, the secret is the glycerene. Trooped a full morning before re wiping at the lids of lunch break, then good to go for the rest of the afternoon
  7. Could be just you Why do kids get all the cool stuff <_< *Just read the article and they do talk about the adults version being more expensive so it looks like its not just the kids
  8. Whats the motivation men have to done the armour? I can't see its any different than mine, despite whats published men and women aren't from different planets . I've known some men (ok not very many) who have expressed an interested in costuming up as Boushh which is essentially known and Leia, so I could ask whats the motivation behind that? For me its not about being a male character its about being a stormtrooper. I've seen kids be amazed that there is a person underneath the armour when they see a non balaclaved chin If I really was the wrong shape and size for a trooper then I wouldnt have done it but there are lots of guys that are my height and weight. For instance, I'm definitely not thin enough to be slave leia so I don't event conemplate it As far as the reactions I get, can only speak for the Scout atm but in general I try to deepen my voice (the electronic gizmo helps), not walk in a feminine way etc but there are some signs that I can't change like my height (5'4") and small feet and yes I am recognized as female about 25% of the time and I feel it detracts from the character I am trying to project but I usually give the reply "The Empire is an equal opportunities employer"
  9. Thanks for that, thats exactly what I was looking for. I've been looking around the site but there is so much around I had real trouble finding the specific ones I need, with pics The thread is excellent and it confirms what I thought I needed to do and I nbever thought of using pliers lol Thanks again
  10. What did you use to bend it with? I have only very limited tools etc to use and it does seem to have some strength to it which I seem to be lacking at the moment
  11. I managed to get a pack of the table cloth holders really cheap. I think I know how to attach them but, silly question, the metal seems quite strong (I know, thats what metal is supposed to be ) and already has two bends in it but not quite the right way , just wondering if there were any pics/illustrations of how others have used/shaped them to fit to the belt and TD. And do most people then attatch them to the TD with rivets?
  12. I have a mate who owns a set of SDS but actually troops in FX lol
  13. Yeah, its FX So my logic may actually be working for this one?? (laughs hysterically). Also being short I will have to cut the arms down to fit. Is it better to cut it from the elbow/back (not seen again). As the wrist tapers wouldn't I just be widening the opening and therefore showing more of a gap at the wrist which wouldnt look as good. The only reason for asking is that there is a slight lip at the elbow which I would lose if I cut from there but if its less likely to be seen does this matter? And by the way if my logic is correct twice in a row I may have to have a rest
  14. I was hoping to be able to glue both side of my lower arm armour but I don't think this will be possible so I will have to glue one side and velcro the other. I've been looking around but can't seem to find out if there is a preference to which side should have the glue and which side should have the velcro. Logic (lol like that ever worked for me) says that the part that is seen more (upper?) should be glued and the velcro should be on lower part as this looks better. Saying that, velcroing the upper part seems to me as though it would be easier for me to fasten myself as I'd like to be able to dress myself on my own as much as possible lol Any advice is appreciated
