Also said he had a " stack of helmets in hand". Was quite surreal as it was the first time we had ever spoken. Did seem like a nice bloke tho'.

Could not agree more. If there were not enough prop makers unwilling to sell to the 501st members before there will certaoinly be more now once this area becomes known about.

I cannot see the 501st clearing slots cut into the helmet in the manner you describe. Why not fit a set of squirell fans and fit your lenses with slight gaps top and bottom to allow for air flow?
