1. Here's what your teeth should look like.
2. I like to cut the teeth and eyes from the back. I use a utility knife because I can control it better than a dremel. I begin by shaving a slice off until I break through. Go slow, you just want to cut enough out so that you can later do a final trim while you look at it from the front. Once you have all the teeth cut, turn the faceplate over and slowly slice away at each tooth from behind until its square. Notice that I didnt really get all the way to my reference lines, but that I have a nice uniform cut. If you mess up a little dont sweat it. These helmets were cut badly originally so you cant really mess it up, its just MORE screen accurate
3. Now we need to work on the faceplate. Take a pencil and trace around the eyes as I have. As a reference draw the teeth as well. Make the teeth square and use screenshots from http://www.starwarshelmets.com as references. That site has alot of screen used helmets that will give you a good idea how to trim the eyes and teeth. If you follow my lines here you will be pretty close. Just make sure to make your teeth deep not shallow. AND DO NOT DRAW OR CUT THAT FIFTH TOOTH!
4. Here's what we should have so far
5. Now we need to cut off the extra flash and sand them smooth.....Dont go crazy, just make them smooth and burr free
6. Remember that this is just the pre-trim. We will be fitting the ears more later on, but this will get you very close. Ok after you have scored each ear you are going to make break lines or "legs" as I call em'. The ears will kinda look like ants when viewed from above. Basically you are going to score a line from the lines around the ears in 8 to 10 spots. Then when we have all the "legs" done we can start snapping the parts off gently but firmly.
7. Take a utility knife and lightly score the lines you just drew with the pencil. Attention to detail, patience and safety here. Notice that I am wearing a glove? Thats because I just got 7 stitches a few months back.....From not being careful or paying attention.... Anyway... Score around each ear three times until a nice score is visible. Be really careful to NOT go off course here, if you do the next few steps may be effected.
8. The first thing we are going to do is pre-trim the ears. If you look carefully at them you will see a faint outline. Take a pencil and lightly draw a line around the ears following the lines....
9. Ok.... As you know the TE2 Bumpy Cap n' Back is just about the best helmet there is as far as accuracy goes. The original lines of the helmet and faceplate are virtually unaltered from the original. I have been fortunate enough to be able to acquire a helmet from Guns. For the next few days I will assemble, and paint the helmet, and try to explain as best I can how you can do it too! Here's the full helmet kit as I received it. I was lucky to get the Keith mic tips, acetate lens material, stickers, screws, and imported rubber molding....SLOBBER!!! Thanks Guns you ARE the man
10. I was fortunate enough to get a New TE2 helmet from my buddy Guns. In the following days I will be posting a step by step tutorial on how to properly cut, assemble and paint a TE2 bumpy cap n back helmet. So check back in soon. Its gonna be in depth and informative for sure. If you are interested in obtaining a fine helmet from TE2, PM me and I will pass his info along. Tell him TK-4510 sent you
11. Check this out. http://www.TK2441.co.uk/ I believe that she wears an AP Quite nicely too.
12. Dont mask it, hand paint it. What kind of helmet is it?
13. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, lets bring on the meat and potatoes!!!!
14. Wha?? You havent seen the original "Sculpt"........ Where did you see them?? If anyone had the original sculpts why did they recast the armor for ROTJ and why would they hold onto the sculpts for almost 30 years if they never used them?
15. I was at the mall today and saw one of those life size stormtrooper standee's. I noticed that the center button plate part looks nothing like the ones used on the TE or AP sets. Of course that makes sense seeing as how AP and TE remade theirs. It almost looks like the "ribs" are thicker and stick out much less than the ones we know today. I also noticed many other interesting things about the armor. The placement of rivets and how the legs are assembled. Its really cool to see it up so close. I almost forked out the $29 for it as a reference, but I am too cheap. I do recommend getting one if you have the spare cash. Thats about as close as you can get to the real thing as a reference.
16. Ah, I knew you would look!! LOL OK, well I was wondering if anyone actually has one. Can you post pics of it here for all of us to admire??
17. How much is AP going for these days??? Someone PM me.
18. Show a pic dude. Try goo gone maybe? or heck WD-40 does everything, maybe that? ABS glue actually melts the ABS so you may be "escrewed"....
19. Cut it like this in back and push the bottom out. Redrill a new hole and it shoud look a bit better. First cut it and then see how it fits...
20. Who is he? COL SANDURZ He's an a very impolite person, sir. DARK HELMET I know that. What's his name? COL SANDURZ That is his name, sir. a very impolite person, Major a very impolite person. DARK HELMET And his cousin? COL SANDURZ He's an a very impolite person, too, sir. Gunner's-mate, 1st Class, Philip a very impolite person. DARK HELMET How many Assholes we got on this ship, anyhow? ALL Yo! DARK HELMET I knew it. I'm surrounded by Assholes. (pulls down mask) Keep firing, Assholes.
21. the clips used for the little mirrors that hang over the sun shades in your car will work as well. Most stores carry those "make up" mirrors.
22. I used pop rivets. They are your best friend. I pop riveted the "TD" right to my belt. It looks great and never EVER comes off. Just make sure its centered
23. I agree with butah fett to a point. We shouldnt be getting elitist. That usually tears a club apart in the end. Some people cant spend anymore on the armor and helmets they have. Its an option as far as I can see. I hate the FX and I think it looks just plain silly on a trooper, but hey, if you like it then keep it. Who are we to get all high and mighty about it. I say for now FISD need to stay put. Dont push new members away. This forum still has a long way to go.
24. Thats funny I have assembled many helmets with 150 and never had a problem. I think the rumor mill is running overtime....Maybe thats why I think they never ran out!!!! Maybe they do only ship 150, but really its not that different.
