  1. HA HA. The helmets Tray's selling are recasts too. LOL.... Nothing against Tray, but I dont wanna steer this guy in the wrong direction. Plus Tray's helmets are soft pulls. Listen. PM me for TE2 or AP or RT-MOD or TM. All others are recasts. ALL OTHERS. At the very least buy the MR CE helmet. Its cheap and it looks OK. Its also approved for 501st.
  2. rain x wipes?
  3. Thats a recast and although it may seem nice to you, to most everyone else it will be soft and unusable. Stay away from that one for sure.
  4. There is no exact amount, but on the TE or other ANH style helmets a pencil width is usually a good amount.
  5. You guys are the greatest!!!!! I bet Paul had an absolute blast
  6. Awesome, thanks for sharing guys!!
  7. I saw it with the wife and kids tonight. I didnt like the use of the word "Damn" with all the kids watching, but it went over their heads anyway. I thought the story line was weak, but the animation and battle scenes were cool. The last half of the movie seemed slow to me and I found myself wondering when it would be over. The theatre room was pretty empty too. Like maybe 1/3 full. Overall, -OK-. My kids enjoyed it.
  8. Sure fire way to gain weight.......Get married and have kids.
  9. The ammo belt would be full of all kinds of cool wicked stuff like an eloborate shielding system that extended out in a glowing fashing during intense battles to protect each trooper. ` The ears of the helmet have sensors to adjust oxygen levels and adjust lenses for UV. This is fun
  10. driving 230 miles to see the in-laws... <_<
  11. Yes big words should not be tossed around so lightly True, nice try is what it means to "me"...
  12. Screen accurate is terminology that has been used for exactness in the prop community. As long as it is. Its very black and white. While I see your point, I have to agree with Gino. I have never heard of the prop accurate terminology. If such a thing exists it would have to be the same. To me idealized means.....Nice try. Better luck next time And since I know what may be coming after that from you guys. Let me be the first to say that my stuff is not screen accurate. I pride myself on how my stuff looks, but compared to some of the other stuff I have seen...Nice try, better luck next time. Even Gino does not claim that his helmets are accurate. He only claims that his are "the MOST screen accurate". Even he sees the inaccuracies in his work. For me though, thats what makes it fun. I keep striving for something better and better and better. I know that most people could care less. But it means alot to me. In addition, nothing I have made that is extremely close to screen accurate will ever be trooped in. Its just too much work and a bit too fragile for man handling. From a trooping standpoint you guys can do what you want and call it what you want. I am with you to a great degree. You have to understand that Gino (as far as I know) does not troop and has not trooped. His primary interest in this hobby is the replica angle. There are lots of guys like him in the replica community. I am amazed at the level of detail they can achieve and I strive to match it. Screen accuracy, that is
  13. Yeah, I have to agree with Gino. I absolutely hate the idealized look. But as was mentioned, you start out that way and head toward screen used look. Its a natural progression. In an attempt to look better and better you just start studying more and more to get the right look.
  14. I still believe that the bubble in the tears is nothing more than a cooling line. Similar to the ones in the cap in backs when they are formed cold. They are not consistent in the film and always appear to me to be only half shaped not a full "weenie" if you will The laws helmet is over emphasized.
  15. Well I think there is definitely two lines of thought here. Some people come from the "what if it was real and this is what it would probably look like camp". Others come from the "its a movie and I am trying to match every nuance, every detail for better or worse that happened in 1976 during filming." Personally I dont go for the "what if" because I am more into the actual prop side. I love the fact that its wonky, drippy with runs, taped together, etc. I think it only adds to the look. I feel that cleaning up the armor and helmet to make it balanced ruins it. Lets use a beautiful woman as an example. She is no more symmetrical than anything else in nature. If you were to mirror her you make an ugly woman for sure. The beauty lies in the asymmetry! It also adds a bit of an organic feel to the armor. The film itself is very organic and campy. I like it that way. Now I dont go slapping duct tape on my armor or wear my stuff backwards just cause it was in the movie. I do however, make sure that my armor looks used even if its the standard white stuff. I put scuffs on it and leave small marks as they come up. I keep it looking clean and used. The helmets I wear are almost always imperfect. I dont sweat a run here or there or paint chipping off a screw. My canvas belt has some fraying that I just keep clipping short. By boots look scuffed a bit. I never wanna look like a TK going to a class A inspection. Unless of course that is what I was really doing. Like say a film premier escorting George down the red carpet. I'd probably repaint the whole get up and rebuild it just for that night
  16. You could always try using craft foam from Michael's or another art supply store. Its very inexpensive. Armed with the craft foam and a hot glue gun and some velcro, you can make a pretty cool costume. Here is a pic of my daughters costume that we put together in about 3 days. You could do a much more realistic version. Its much lighter than cardboard too. You could make the whole costume for about $20 and pic up a helmet on ebay for $15-$200 depending upon how nice you want it.
  17. Nice job dude!
  18. I am done with this issue. I have defended my friends property, there is nothing more I can do. I am not going to comment any further.
