  1. I'm pretty happy with my Skullworx Unit and the Triktoys board. Actually... very happy. The hyperdyne sounded great, but it was a lot harder to use.
  2. Very interesting Matt. I didn't realize there was anything in the frown holes (I always thought they were just holes and for "active" trooping people added the mesh so John Q Public didn't see them close up. I learn something new every day. Thanks. Any more detail? Did it cover the entire front of the face plate (eyes to nose). I want to add this to my TE bucket so I have that "authentic... this is how it looked" look.
  3. Man.. at least I'm not the only one... it's the kind when you look around.. think crap... stupid boots... (did anyone notice....) lol.
  4. I'm on for now. I'll take down the message if it continues. I think it was something like 504 Server could not be contacted? Contact the Administrator.
  5. I've been getting a rash of 504 Errors when accessing the forums. Is anyone else? Are there any issues with the board?
  6. Here you go. -------------
  7. I like the MR bucket, but I would never use it to troop with. The weight of the fiberglass and the fact that you can get "other" better buckets out there just doesn't seem like the MR would be the best choice. I like the look of it, and Jez basically said it best... How many pissed off customers would there be if they received a pulled plastic bucket??? I said this somewhere, but I was working on a TE HDPE bucket when I hosted a armor party. I also had a ANH v2 that wasn't finished. The comments on the TE bucket were... well not the best. Toy came up, cheap, came up, etc... People LOVED the ANH v2. It's just the weight, material, look... I LOVE my TE bucket. I love to talk about.. this is what they were like. If MR produced a screen accurate helmet out of plastic with paint runs... I would NOT want to be in their CS department... not everyone is like us here...
  8. No problem John. Let me know how it works out.
  9. the hand plates look very interesting. Any more shots of those? How are they worn?
  10. Have you tried to move the AMP around in the back? Do you have anything behind your aerators? Sometimes you just need to find "the sweet spot". I also try to put something to block the aerators (like fabric, additional plastic, rubber, etc...) Just to make sure there is a good barrier between the amp/speakers/fans
  11. it's sad, but it's everywhere. My city is pretty good, but we are not immune from it. Dayton (closest larger city) is actually rated one of the most violent in the county. It seems more often than not that there is mention of some shooting and/or vandalization occurring on the local news. It's pretty much just the norm now. I just don't get it Bernard... why so much hate??? I'm not that old, but I remember fist fights in shools... now kids bring guns to school or threaten to bring guns to schools or worse??? I just don't get it.
  12. Nice work Adrian. Fortunately you are NOT in the US... those kids probably would have had guns, and I would have preferred NOT to have read about that mess... It seems like that's been the current trend over here… sad as it is...I'm glad you came out ok and were able to help out a friend. It's unfortunate what today's youth is doing (albeit, it's not all the youth, just some - sorry for the general atatement about our kids today)
  13. I will keep the updates then. thanks guys. I removed the board and painted the front. We will see how it turns out. The wires will eventually be shorter (it's HUGE currently) and covered. I've not decided how to install everything in my bucket yet, but that's always fun!!! I love to mess with the inside of the bucket - yet that's another thread.
  14. MODIFIED EAR COVERS Remember, this is just a work in progress. The paint is rough so I could see my work. It will be corrected later. For these I only carved out the top of the "rank bar" Installed screen in the holes. My goal is to make them look as close to the part I removed from the "rank Bars" - For this I used stiff screen from the FX aerators. It fit perfect in the hole. I used a nail set to push it threw to the desired depth. - Glued them in place - Painted the screen black Pair Close up (FRONT) Close up (SIDE) Close up (BACK) I still have a lot of work to do on them, but if people are interested, I'll continue to update.
  15. Here are some of my progress pics. Package (already opened) New Front New Back New Side removed (battery side) WORK IN PROGRESS: Parts removed (front, back, Sides, Belt Clip) New Wires added, Mic removed from main box (FRONT) - I've got making solution on the front, getting ready to paint. I don't want to see the "logo" New Wires added, Mic removed from main box (BACK)
  16. Those look like they will work. The logo should be covered up by the hand plate. I prefer Nomex Hatch, but really... there are a lot that work well.
  17. I'll get some pics ASAP. I was trying last night, but I didn't get to it. I've not started work on one, so I can show a 'Before" and I'll take pictures of where I am at. As I work on the second, I'll take additional pics. I'm doing a lot of mods (you don't have to do them all...) I have found that I "prefer" the listen up to the gossip gizmo. I've not seen a sonic ear yet, but I'm sure they are all about the same. I'm a "light" guy... the listen up has a led in it, which I think will add a nice little touch to the final product.
  18. Good eye Tony!!!! Surprised you saw that, I don't think too many people have noticced it was one. (well... not really surprised.. I know you have mad skills man... ) It's not a recast, it's a "Brad special". I never liked the seams (particularly on the back dome). So, I removed them.... It's just your standard, run of the mill FX, put together, seams filled and removed. Being a TD, I didn't have to not worry about the shiny ABS and not matching the rest of my armor issue.. I sanded everything down, painted, and weathered. I suppose you COULD do it with a TK using high gloss. It would just require a full repaint of the entire armor set. A lot of work for a FX set.
  19. does he not realize.... you are a cop???? If you find out who he is, you can pretty much put him in jail every other night and there is nothing the courts can really do (it's within your right as a police officer to detain and remove suspicious individuals)... if he's speeding... jail. J-walking... jail...spits.... jail. Sure, your supervisor might get a little pissed, but not until after a few times…. Sure, it get thrown out in court. He still spent the night in jail.
  20. yea, no problem. It's just a device called "Listen Up" or Gossip Gizmo. Both are pretty Cheap. It's a handheld device that amplifies noise. Here is a link to the "Listen Up" http://www.asseenontvnetwork.com/listenupv3/?cid=290879 To install them, you have to take them apart (like one or 2 screws... pretty simple), move the mic out, cut a small grove for the wire, put it back together, and put it where you want in the bucket (the frown, ears, whatever) I'm still working on my TD ones, so I'll try to put together a little step by step on the modification and installation of them. Like I said, I put one in my TK, but I'm going to try 2 (one on each side/ear) of my TD. 2 of them are a little more complicated and the ears are MUCH different than the frown. I've been moding the construction of the bucket so that it will accept the 2 devices (you need the mic exposed) I'm about finished up with the ear covers/rank bars where the mic will go. I can take pictures of them tonight. I have to finish the paint app since it's just rough painted so I could see the mod. Here is a picture of the TD bucket without the ear caps on, you can see the "hole" that will lead to the cap and allow the wire for the Listen up device to be installed to.
  21. You can hear pretty good with the bucket, but since I'm an electronics nerd... I did add listening devices to my buckets. My TK has a mic in the frown, and my TD (still in progress) will have 2 mics (once in each ear). It really helps add a little more ability to hear (particularly when another TK is talking to you)
  22. happy b-day man. I hope it's been a great day!!!
  23. interesting Tony. I didn't think of that. It would be good for those areas that take a lot of stress/movement. It then would basically make 2 pieces of ABS one... very interesting...
  24. Tom, great tip man!!! Regarding the color difference, perhaps add a little glossy model enamel paint now? Just to blend it in a bit? The ABS GOO is a great idea, and I'm sure I'll get my chance to play with it soon...
  25. I've got a couple of the Skullworx units. I love them. It's a great option if you don't want to take the time to build up your own, and they can be customized (add fans, buttons, whatever). These should NOT be confused with the FX ROM, Hyperdyne, Triktoys amp, etc... they are just the basic amp (no sound effects), fans, mic, and wire management system. In addition, Scot is a stand up guy and great to work with. I've worked (obviously, hence the multiple units...)with him a few times, and I could not be more impressed.
