The Star Wars Saga, how do you rank the episodes?
JSmails replied to RogueTrooper's topic in Off Topic
Episode V: Empire. Best of the movies. A perfect Act 2. Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. Brought everything together, ended in tragedy and the birth of the Vader costume. A little bit slow in the middle with Palpatine and Anakin talking at the circus, but other than those 30-40 minutes, a great film. Episode 4: A New Hope. I could go into the few incongruencies of this film, but I'm too afraid of the flaming and possible ban if I did. Episode 6: Jedi: I like everything about this film except the ewoks. Speeder bikes, awesome. Battle with Vader, awesome. Sail Barge and freeing Solo, awesome. Killing the emperor and bringing the OT to a close, awesome also. It may rank higher if it didn't have ewoks and if George hadn't inserted Hayden at the end in the SE. I think that soured me a bit. Not the film's fault, I know. Episode 1: Menace: I have no idea why so few like this film. I like everything about the film except the 30 minute podracing scene. That could have been 5 minutes. Darth Maul is awesome. People only hate Jar-Jar because they grew up with the OT. Ask anyone that is 18 or younger what they thought of Jar-Jar when they saw EP 1 for the first time. To a person, I haven't found anyone that dislikes him. He's a lot less annoying than those GD ewoks. Episode 2: Clones. I hated this film. The instant I came out of that film with my dad he said, "Less kissy, more fighty." Exactly how I felt. And the CGI was terrible. Like when Anakin was riding that, what, mole? Awful. I concur that Portman was hot as hell, but that alone doesn't make this move decent. I actually like the movie Clone Wars better than Ep2 even with Ahsoka being the most annoying Star Wars Universe creation to hit the big screen yet. -
Jason, You are absolutely correct in the placement of the belt in ROTJ. Almost every one of the TK's cover the blue buttons. Which is a shame, as they are so pretty. But for accuracy sake, it is best I believe. Great caps with the TK's holding Luke. No buttons at all. There are PLENTY of exceptions in ROTJ as I think they were just trying to get the series finished. Do you have a link of some sort for the webbing? Amazon or something? If anyone is any good with photoshop, and judging sizes etc. with a "known size" for the belt boxes, finding the belt size shouldn't be hard. Or if someone were to contact John and ask him to measure his belt, that'd be easiest I think. LOL! I think I have a few screen caps of the sides where one could measure the belt box, then the belt in photoshop. Will it yield an accuracy closer than the .5" discrepancy we have now? I don't know.

Where do you get Poly Webbing for the belt? I have been hoping to find this for quite some time. GREAT BUILD BTW! The bottom blue buttons come from Bernard's exchanges with John who owns the actual suit you can see on StarWarsHelmets. I have been through every frame of ROTJ and there simply isn't a frame that shows the color scheme clearly. There are frames of TK's with no colors on the buttons at all, but they are the exception. WORSE, the TK's lined up on the Death Star have their belts so high they are COVERING the bottom buttons. I have VaderDave's buttons on mine and they are simply too nice to cover up IMO. Most of the Endor TK's you can see all the buttons, but there is never a good closeup that I can find. Again, great build!

I would appreciate a signed copy as well! Thanks!

Pualdrons? When, where?
JSmails replied to Amptrooper's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
In ROTJ, the Endor scenes, these are ROTJ TK's with no pauldrons. Thus the "spaceship/groundtroops" theory of pauldrons isn't totally correct. -
If only I had my screen grabs..... There is a frame in the battle on Endor that I have grabbed where the TK boot goes by the camera, he's being flipped or somesuch, and does indeed have a traditional boot bottom. It was yellow, not white, as I recall. When they were wrestling around in the forest, I'm sure a lot of the TK's wore actual work-like boots. Background and such. The TK's on the Death Star though seem to have the traditional flat-bottomed boot. And as I said in another thread, I couldn't find a single frame that definitively showed actual Jodhpur-style in ROTJ. I'd like to see some on the set photos if I could find them or if someone has them. The only "real TK" shots I've seen are with Elvis style zip-down-the-side boots. Tour suits etc. I just can't frame-grab a single Jod-style in ROTJ. When is LFL coming out with these in Blue-Ray? That'll make it much, much easier.

I took a few screen caps from ESB with the E-11 in backwards. I'm not anywhere near them at the moment though. The TK's have them holstered in a few scenes on Cloud City if you want to pop the DVD in. They are clear that the E11 was put in "backwards" with the handle facing forward and the magazine pointing out away from the right leg.

I second this completely. NEVER EVER read an email from Paypal. Maybe, only, when you first sign up in order to verify your email initially. But after that, if you see in you inbox, "Paypal wants to contact you" for something or other, if you are worried about it, login at PAYPAL.COM directly. I have had Paypal since before Ebay bought it and I haven't had any problems.

This is exactly what I want to do to mine! Where do you get the parts? Radio Shark? Any part numbers off-hand? Great mod!

Thank AT, I'll give that a try tomorrow. Working hands neoprene. -
Where to buy black rubber gloves (canon)?
JSmails replied to JSmails's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Thanks for that Terrell! But, do those, if you can tell, have the "dimpling" on the fingertips as seen in the movies? I can't tell from the pic but they look smooth. Great price on them! Where is that pic of the TK's holding Leia? I think the "dimpling" can be seen in that pic. -
Hello, I'm sure this is a dumb question, but where do I buy the long black rubber gloves seen in all the screencaps etc? Maybe I'm not looking in the right areas at Menards, Wal-Mart and Home Depot. I'm stumped. If anyone has seen them, let me know where to look for them and which store/stores. I have seen yellow, pink, red, etc. etc. but I can't find black. Thanks.

If you have Wal-Mart in Canada you should be able to get E-6000 there in the craft section in the glues. It's almost $2 cheaper per tube than Michaels. (US dollars)

I used E6000, white 1" ribbon from Wal-Mart (drop boxes), and Tandy Snaps to put a bunch of snaps on my suit last weekend. Use a lot of E6000 to "soak" the ribbon and let it dry for about 8 hours or so. Works great. Especially on odd surfaces like the underside of the shoulder straps.

I hate to say this, but I just went frame-by-frame through ROTJ and I can't find a single frame with anything that definitively looks like a Jodhpur boot. Granted, it is still DVD quality on the computer, but nothing I've seen says, "That's definitely a Jod!" I've ordered my Caboots, and I'll probably call it good, but I am starting to believe the "Elvis Style" long boot with a zipper is actually the boot they used, mostly, and not just on a tour suit. Now, not all the boots are the long, zippered, elvis style with the tan bottoms. Lots of them are for sure. But some of the TK's sides of their soles were painted white, while some were black. I have a screen cap of the bottom of a TK foot that looks like an actual BOOT bottom. I imagine what the Doc's will look like on the bottom. Only in yellow, not white. That screen cap was definitely not the tan Elvis Boot bottom which is pretty smooth with a heel. Someday we'll figure this all out.

Amplifier for Hasbro E11?
JSmails replied to TomBangkok's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I bet a respirator amp would fit in there just lovely. ----------- And it has a pot to turn it on/off and adjust volume. How one would actually solder it to make it work, I haven't much of an idea. Spkr-out from the Hasbro board to the mic-in on the amp? Maybe not solder at all. It sounds like a cool, worthwhile mod. Take some pics if you do it! -
I am going to snaps and elastic instead of velcro in the next few days. I have to get it fitting and sweet for Halloween. The Tandy snaps and tool. Is that available as a kit or something at Jo-Ann? I have tried Michaels with no luck. Wal-mart has some sort of snap tool and snaps, but not as a kit. At least not in heavy-duty snap-kit form. Is Jo-Ann's the place to get that? ABS squares. Where do I buy a sheet of ABS for this or is there a better way? I had thought putting the snaps through some thick elastic then E-6000-ing the elastic to the suit would be a way to go. Is a "For Sale" plastic sign at Wal-mart good enough to just cut out squares? Any help is greatly appreciated. I picked up a tube of E-6000 at Wal-Mart today. It has a nice tip on it it looks like. My tube from Michaels has a big hole on the end and is a pain to work with. I hope the smaller tip is better. If anyone needs E-6000, it is in the craft section at Wal-Mart, over a couple aisles from the fabrics. There is a small "Glue" section and the E-6000 is hanging on one of the high bars if anyone is interested. I will have to take a look at some tutorials, but since CBP just got done doing this, a fresh insight is quite helpful. Thanks.

I had VaderDave paint the 3 buttons blue for me. Just worked it out with him through email. They couldn't be easier to put on the ab plate. Those photos were the main photos I was looking at. The shadowing makes it seem different than it actually is. The outdoor photo is a bit easier to see the colors. Better, I got verification from Bernard who was corresponding with John who actually has the suit to find out what the colors are and where. You almost need to see an actual ROTJ suit as I haven't found a single frame in the entire DVD that I could definitively see the color of the bottom buttons.
-
No problem. I have pics of my VaderDave buttons on my Rubies Mod post lower down the forum. The next thing for me to tackle is a solid snap system to keep everything tight. Work, work, work.
-
From all my research when I was putting my ab plate together it goes, from the bottom up: Blue, Blue, Black, Black, Black. Then on the side with only 4 of them, bottom to top it goes: Blue, Black, Black, Black. This I finally figured on from PM's with Bernard (the only EIB ROTJ I believe) who was in email contact with John who owns and ROTJ suit. From all my frame-by-framing ROTJ, I could never come up with anything definitive that you could actually "see" in the movie. Most ROTJ TK's wear their belt so high it covers the bottom 2 buttons on the Ab middle and the bottom button on the "4" buttons. So all you see in the movie is the black buttons. I hope that helps a bit.

Dr Martens Boots for Trooping?
JSmails replied to Turpulus's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Zappos had my size (13US) as of my writing above. When I went to buy them today, gonzo. So, yes, these Doc's did come in big foot sizes too. I'm sure they've been discontinued, thus the closeout prices at Zappos etc. Saddened by this, someone is reselling what look to be Caboots on Ebay for $60 + $8 shipping. Being it's a buy-it-now, I hopped on my Live/Bing.com cashback account, searched Stormtrooper boots, then hit the auction on Ebay getting 8% cashback ($4.80) and $1.20 in ebay bucks. Caboots delivered for about $62 all told? Sweet. Now I'll just have to wait for them to arrive and figure out a GOOD way to whiten the black side sole. I'm sure spray-painting will be the most screen-accurate way to do it. Anyone have an idea what paint would stick well to the side of a Caboot sole? Thanks. -

JSmails replied to Turpulus's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I am still interested in this and Zappos has my size for $85 delivered. You know Doc boots are going to last. I will have to post some ROTJ screen caps when I get home. -
The ROTJ holster is on the right side. The E-11 has to go in backwards so that the cartrage sticks out away from your leg. I have gone over ROTJ frame by frame countless times and I have yet to see a TK with a holstered E-11.

I'm in, let me know when/where/who to paypal. Will these fit MRCE pretty easily? Just asking as the MRCE is a pretty common "decent" starter helmet. Is ATA going to become the goto entry-level helmet now? Anyway, count me in.

Dr Martens Boots for Trooping?
JSmails replied to Turpulus's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Those boots I've never seen in any of my screen caps. Is that a tour suit? I have seen the boots that look like the standard "stormtrooper boots". i.e. Jodphur etc. Just like the above Docs. In the Endor scene when they are dragging Solo out of the bunker, the TK's on the left are definitely wearing the Jods with white soles. At least on the side. Not black sole-sides like those ANH TK's.
