  1. LOL no dude, he's a real chap. Famed for this wrist. Joe Johnston I believe?
  2. Really? Flipping bollocks! I'm lloking forward to reading that, but not if it's all lies! LOL YEah I'm confused by that scene too dude. Seems like a lot of work for just a few seconds. But hey, that's whay it's an ace film
  3. God knows. I heard that rumour over on therpf and it says so in that book too! See if you make this text out ----------- I'm as spun out as you dude, but get the book and check it out. That shot is made up of a superimposed falcon, gun, death star and 2 troopers! The paragraph is all about how much detail goes into such a tiny scene. The words are somewhere along the lines of the trooper being Joe Johnston tiwce.
  4. Ok, one last go... The undercuts and taking them off the mould. Was it maybe he cut them to get them off and then stuck them back together, hence the bumps showing under the paint? One thing I will say is this. The sharing of information is GREAT thing. Great thing! Some of us like Jez have spend hours of their lives scouring the web, books, newspapers, chatting to people etc and he's put ALL that, ALL that onto a website for anyone who may also be interested to pop in and have a look at. Everyone who costumes today would not be able to do that if others hadn't helped them in some small way (website - hosting a photo - answering a topic post) on their journey. We all have a common love here and that's of the Star Wars world. This one thing unites us from all over the world and total strangers, some you'll never meet all come on here to learn stuff and better their hobby. A hobby that people like us help to enrich with little titbits of information. So we all owe each other a pat on the back and SHOULD share something if someone knows it. Now, after posting my heart stirring post, I'm off to have a little cry Come on lads! Share it!
  5. Na I've got this book. It's not very helpful to be honest. But it's interesting cos that shot is massivley composed and layered. Did you know there was only ONE trooper in that shot 8-)
  6. Thanks guys. I didn't have time to take this further this weekend. Something called a Zam Wessel costume got in the way. The circular bit needs to be cut in more oval line rather than filed flat. As the lid curves away the straight line causes the problem. I'll crack it
  7. Cheers Ian. I just ordered one from ebay and Becky is also on the case. These look spot on for what I need. Aren't humans clever
  8. No problem Scott. That's what sites like this are for dude
  9. Well my GML will be the dude getting the 2nd set so I'm sure he'll help get this allowed. He hasn't mentioned anything so far anyway, so sssshhh. If he does get spooked I'll use Kenner blasters as my defense. If they're allowed in, so should the spacepack
  10. Holy cow, that's AWESOME dude. What will earth poeple think of next. Thanks mate.............I'm off to search the web.
  11. yeah you look at some of the auction shots at Chrisites and some of the stunts have 5 teeth FORMED but not all cut Look at Jez real stormtrooper section as well. There's a picture of 26 helmets all lined up. Some do actually have 5 cut out If Jez doesn't mind this......? Here you go As we all know heros had 3. I was shocked myself to see them but yeah, they are there right where the tube part meets the front face
  12. RE: Bounty Hunter.... I dunno. I guess it was one of the first games I 'completed' and didn't get bored with. A very patient boy Mind you I did have a load of cheats for my gamecube. Umlimited jet pack/ammo. So that helped. I just loved the different characters you come across and scanning the crowd for your bounty. The crazy red eyed folk that scream in that dark 'churchlike' level blew me away. No I thought it was pretty cool.
  13. I used to work 5 minutes from Andrew's workshop in Twickenham and have popped in to buy stuff, either I or my friend, many, many times. Another friend has even been in touch with him regarding automated CNC production and 3D laser scanning of his stuff to allow him to make different sized moulds. Plus he's even tipped a pint of beer over my girlfriend in the past (accidental) as he's been to some our charity balls and gives UKG members a discount. What I'm trying to get across here without sounding pompous, is I'm not phased by him at all. So talk to him like I'd talk to anyone. I'm very open with the chap and let him chat away. Anyone who has spoken to him knows he does this with ease. LOL Just 2 minutes ago I came off the phone from Andrew and wrote this down as I was speaking to him. Here goes................ At the time of production, Feb/March he was also making fishponds from HDPE! (A boom industry at the time) He made a few SAMPLE I repeat SAMPLE lids/suits to send off to Lucasfilm to look at. Lucasfilm were so tight they actually used these SAMPLES later in the film! They were meant to be thrown away. He knows that at the time there would have been contamination from the fishpond stones. The stones were used to help KEY the material to the stones. Otherwise it crimps as it cools. So perfect for buzzing fishponds, not so ideal for smooth high gloss stormtroopers. Hence the introducion of ABS later for the close ups. Find a bump on a ABS hero and I'll give you my house! (my words not his ) ALSO! HDPE forms at a very narrow temperature window and can web terribly when not done correctly. Plus it would not stick very well to the SMOOTH mould of the stormtrooper lid. So it shrinks as it comes off the mould and cools. Natural physical charaterisctics of this cheap and very buzzing material. Hence the bumps. He says EVERY single one of the those early stormtrooper lids were different. No bumps were intentional and no lid was the same. Different curves. He also adds, after he stopped laughing at how idiotic and anal we all are, that he cannot believe natural bumps in the forming process and nature of the HDPE are being discussed at such length 30 years on. He also added he'd love to meet someone who knows something he doesn't when he was the one who pulled them Right then....nest dead horse please
  14. No update but there are pictures of him in the book that's due out sooooon I've build this get up so far I'm going to use that Braun shaver thing as a base to vac form the sides
  15. No that makes sense dude. It'll follow the contour of the lid. Cheers!
  16. I plan on pulling some of these this weekend so I'll let you all know how I get on
  17. Lego Star Wars, 1&2 are so charming and the figures they make are fab! I never got sucked into KOTOR as time never allowed it. Jedi Knight II was ace as was Bounty Hunter. Playing as Jango Fett leading up EP2. Great insight into underworld scum
  18. I want to say belt but SDS makes his suits using a popper attached to the ab plate, so I dunno?
  19. When adding the face plate and back plate together, you fiddle about trying to get the attitude right. Hero or stunt. I use paper clips to do mine. These are great as they are flexiable but strong enough to hold whern bent back. Plus....I think this is what was used in the films Here's a protoype -------
  20. Yep, I realise that. Although it does look ace when it's spot on I guess it's just trial and error. If I crack it I'll let you know
  21. Righto, sorry dude. PM going his way Delete mine if you want? That's cool
  22. Of course it's because the mould has imperfecions in it. You try pulling around 50 suits in one night after a fire has wrecked your business and see how clean your flipping pulls come out!!! I'm currently doing a tutorial for Andrew's website as we speak (how to make his lids more troopable) so I'll ask him this very question tomorrow. He's the chap who made them, I'm sure he'll know This is how you post and answer a trivia questiojn......... Does anyone know what T.I.E fighter stands for? Twin Ion Engine. Next!
  23. Ah come on lads. You can't drink whilst in armour. What if a little kiddie sees you? You'll totally wreck his world. Taking helmets off in public is a no no in my books too but who am I eh? In the UKG you get killed if you take your lid off in public. I remeber one little lad creeping into our changing room. His face, initially one of glee cos he was about see lots of stormtroopers turned into total sadness when he realised we were just normal people. You've got to keep it real for the kids dudes
  24. I'm Welsh and very proud of it. I hate English people who give me really original sheep sh?%$$ng jokes or comments about my accent. Which most love by the way. LOL I love making things or solving something complicated or making something better somehow:) I'm a self employed comouter programmer. Geek boy! Cool as I'm self employed so take holidays when I like (project manager permitting) Bad side of that is if I don't work I don't get paid. I like to take long breaks from work to train on my bike and to vac form loads of thinsg that I've promised loads of people I'll do. LOL I absolutely LOVE Road racing cycling. I belong to a team and used race with elites but was 1 level lower then them. So it used to hurt LOL! I did ok though. I used to race 2/3 times a week, race week long stage races etc and race in France but now I'm self employed I don't have time to race at that level anymore. Shame cos that DOES make me tick! I like playing the guitar. I own a vac former so try to make stormie bits cooler than they are. Ear switches in our lids etc. That kind of thing. I'm single but my girlfriend has a little rascal who's star wars mad. SO that's cool!
  25. We're doomed! Even Andrew Ainsworth doesn't have a quick fix for this. He says after you've made a few 100 it just comes with practice! Great
