That's very true, maybe I should head off and do some research! But my point is, I didn't start using number 14 because somebody else told me to, I starting using it as when I used the number 15 as was the done thing back in the day it didn't look right. So I looked at all my ref pictures and decided that the dark blue was just that, too dark. I looked for another better blue matching the real costumes and then I started using number 14. That's how progress is made, read as much as you can, then try things out for yourself. If it works great, pass it on, if it doesn't try something else...

I would have thought if this was your original cleared costume that clearence still would be fine, but buying it expecting clearence - no, not really upto standard any more I'm afraid. When it is radiculously easy to get accurate armour nowadays...

Looking at the pictures you have posed I would say 5 and 8 are both good contenders. You need a taller boot so that your shins do not pop out about your boots. 8 being the top of my list I think..

I've owned over 40 lids over the last 9 or so years, usually with around 10 in possession at one time. I'm a little thin on the ground as of late: I think I currently have 3.. Something like that anyway.

There should only ever be one piece of Velcro in a stormtrooper armour build, one piece; and it's not holding the butt to the kidney plate..

Foam, green lens and chin strap - oh and occasionally my head...

The trick to get boot scuffing just right is.. 1. Take a pair of good quality English Chelsea boots. 2. Paint white. 3. Wear a lot. 4. Nicely scuffed..

This is not the most accurate build and I have riveted the sniper knee plate on along with the thigh ammo pack.

Here's a look at some of the finished parts with the completed cover strips.

Next is to fit the cover join strips, these go an the front and back of the arms and legs. When you are happy with them simply glue and tape down and wait to dry. Here you can see how they cover the two parts of the clamshell.

Next is making the parts fit you. You will need to offer the parts up and see how much they need to be trimmed for a good fit. This is where the time will soon add up for your build. If the two parts do not met up 100% that's ok as these armour parts will be butt jointed and a joining strip added over the join as the originals were. So you will not see the ugly join. I use blue tape to check fit and hold the parts together while glueing. This shin the parts do not join up that neatly but you will not see this later.

The same methods are applicable to all the armour parts so I will not be showing me working on them all.
