To cut or not to cut....
89Batman replied to 89Batman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The shape is fine , just too long! I'll watch the movie again and see if I can pause some shots for a better look. -
I have an extremely nice set of TM armour which I love! I trooped it for the first time this weekend and on the whole, although a very different trooping experience to my old FX, I got the hang of it fairly easily. There are a few minor adjustments here and there but all the usual kind of things you would expect when fine tuning your armour for trooping. That is with the exception of one thing. It has been duly noted by those in the UKG that, although not the shortest, I am certainly not a tall trooper! I have trimmed the bottom of the calves as they were too long and think I may need to take a little more off, but I'm also considering cutting out a little behind the knee from the bottom of the thigh and the top of the calf armour as some troopers in ANH did have this mod. Basically I'm wondering what people think of this? Has anyone else done it, is there a correct way to do it as far as shape of the cut goes? I would assume they did this on the screen used ones for ease of movement so it seems it may be the answer for me. I figured I'd see what you guys thought- Thanks!

That would explain alot and does make rather alot of sense! -
Looking good but definitely agree on raising the belt- I have mine so it the top of the belt is just under the Ab buttons.

Doctor Martens boots?
89Batman replied to TK5144's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I have stitched industrial velcro on the top of the boot and on the inside of the shin armor and that stops that from happening, I also have a soft part of the velcro on the back to stop the armour rubbing on the boot. -

Presumably these are a fashion item, if that is the case it won't be long before someone else decides to produce similar to compete with luck. -

-------- It's in North London, if they don't have it it doesn't exist!!!! -
Looks fine to me too.

I would be more than happy to do this for you- I can even pick it up from him as he isn't a million miles away from me- I would advise you though that shipping something that size to the US is expensive. Have a look at the UK post office site and see if you can figure it out based on what you think the approximate dimensions would be. If you are still happy to go ahead with it then by all means I will do whatever it takes to make it happen for you- great time to buy from him as the exchange rate is very good- also worth mentioning that he does 501st discount although this may be UKG only. There is also alot of other stuff on there that may be of use to people. I actually substituted ABS tabs for polyproplene webbing as it is flexible and follows the shape of your armour better and used E6000 as it is far more forgiving if you make a mistake but just as solid when set- I know some people who have had a problem with the weld glues melting the armor where the back of the snap is so you should be careful.

Nice Bat-suit- I have an 89 suit, the Bat is alot of fun but a very different trooping experience to tk. Have you discovered Brotherhood of the Bat yet? Youu will get all the help you need over there and also please feel free to drop me a line if there is anything I can help you with. ---------------------- Great place for Bat reference pics BTW I'm also a big Elvis fan! I used to know Charlie Hodge real well when he lived in the UK in the early eighties! He told some great stories about his life with Elvis.

Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?

Wetokole that is one of the nicest looking jobs I have ever seen on an FX you really made it look great!!!! I am also only 5'5'' and have just up graded from my FX to TM which in my opinion is about the most acurate you can get and I didn't need anywhere near the trimming I thought I would! -
Contraversial belt question
89Batman replied to 89Batman's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Chaz- your first picture there actually looks like leather to me mate! As it is fairly curved and rigid unlike canvas which generally would conform more to the shape of the body. It is also considerably whiter than the clearly obvious canvas belt that Luke is wearing in your later shot, I'm a little confused as to the relevance of the rear shot of the three TD's unless you are trying to suggest we troop without lids and calf armour lol! -
Contraversial belt question
89Batman replied to 89Batman's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I'm not sure that the 'can you remeber...' is fair, we are talking about a wierd costume that no-one had seen before so it would be much more memorable. The only pics he had were poor polaroid continuity shots and I've been nagging him for a while to see them but he hasn't managed to find them and it is extremely possible they have been lost. As for the 'wear a Canvas belt to achieve status and then troop in a leather belt' that somewhat seems to defeat the object to me. I am happy knowing I have one of the best sets of armour you can get but I will continue to look into this as I think it is interesting eliminating or discovering new facts. Nothing is ever certain in these things. BTW Paul did you get my email? -
Contraversial belt question
89Batman replied to 89Batman's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
See I still believe that in the same way many found items were used and make do was definitely a way to go for them that they used more than one material. I still maintain this is still a matter for debate I have a leather belt with stitching on the edges like that. I guess we will never know as becaause it is 30 years ago everybody is suggesting that even people who were there could be wrong. -
Perhaps you could see if anyone has an RT kit that you could see or even try, or failing that measure your thighs and see what the RT guys say.

Contraversial belt question
89Batman replied to 89Batman's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I again state that I know a guy who was a TK in ANH and he says the belt was leather- now as you say his memory could be confused or your opinion could be overstated, it's all relative. I, too, aim for high standards hence upgrading to TM ( Now clearded)from my FX. Personally I choose to believe my friend as I see no reason not to. Also I would point out that Leather can also have that fraying effect, I think you are loosing members over what is essentially still debatable. -
Contraversial belt question

I guess if you guys are stuck on Canvas so be it, everyone has their own ideas on what works best. I myself will stick to leather as I think it looks much better. -
Contraversial belt question
89Batman replied to 89Batman's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
You see that's the thing I was actually talking to someone who was a TK in ANH and as far as he recollected the bellts were leather. Now I know for a fact he was in it and a TK so why would I disbelieve him? Looks like it's you and me against the world Simon lol!!! -
OK so I have been looking on here for a while, although I don't actually post very much. I have managed to learn alot and have tried to contribute where I feel I can, but most of the answers are posted long before I get a chance to answer them lol!! Anyway... I have just read and re-read the conditions for ANH elite and I'm very curios as to why there is such an insistence on a canvas belt? I know there were many used for the film but there were also leather ones used so why are they excluded? I tried the canvas belt when I first started trooping and unfortunately it wasn't strong enough to support my holster let alone my holster with the blaster in it. I also read that you are trying to increase your numbers and I thought that this limitation could be perceived as counter-productive. I find it hard to believe that if I add a canvas belt to my FX armour it would be accepted yet my new TM armour(just waiting for clearance) would be rejected. I'm sure you see the point I'm making and I wondered whether others had similar views. Hey I did say it was controversial lol!!!
