what kind of blaster is this?
TrooperTim replied to vecspeed12's topic in General Weapons Discussion
It does share some characteristics of an e-11. No clue on origin. The back cap is VERY strange. -
Man, those are killer. The Frat-AT reminds me of the big bang theory when they were discussing penny's chinese tattoo. "It's not soup, it's courage. -- No it isn't. But I suppose it does take courage to demonstrate that kind of commitment to soup."

Building AP helmet - need advice about something[*AP]
TrooperTim replied to TK-7534's topic in ANH Build Threads
Use Novus Plastic Polish to make abs plastic shiny. I used #2 followed by #1. I went to my local harley davidson and picked up some bottles, but since you're in Norway maybe try getting it off the bay or other online retailer. Also keep in mind that some armor producers use different composites of plastic. They may be made out of the same material but have a different chemical composition, so the coloration may be slightly offset. Most noticeable is an HIPS helmet and ABS armor; or visa versa. The brow trim and neck trim are not glued on. The top brow is held in by pressure and the bottom just fits over the edge. Haven't had a problem with it falling off, but you can glue it if you want. *spelling edit -
The strips are optional but add more to the finished look I think. Personal preference, really. The thigh will only look too big if it's not sized correctly to your thigh. Looks like a good size to me.
-
Looks like you have a finishing strip on the thigh (or maybe its a shadow), so if you're going ANH I would do a butt joint and don't overlap anything. ROTJ overlaps them. Test fit with them taped up, mark the areas with the pencil, and cut. You can add foam inside of the pieces also to help hold them in place. I took about an inch of the thighs and mine are still a bit too large. Measure twice and make sure they fit well before you make the final cuts. When you trim the pieces to your body type, it can make all the difference in appearance.

possible new way to connect armor
TrooperTim replied to giric thren's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Dude, how long do you need? I have a pile of my abs scraps I can go through. I want to see how bad the split is. The for sale sign may actually work, remembering that youtube video of the for sale sign trooper. -
Well done! Quite an accomplishment.
-
Oh yeah, exactly the same for me. Blasted work. Boo. I'll be there next year.

Looks good! If you're looking to place a protective gloss over the decals, do that after they're positioned. I wouldn't know what you would use though, cause I didn't do that on mine. Looking into the long term it's probably a good idea. When you place the decals on first, spray a light coating of windex on the helmet. It'll allow you to position them where you want before they set. Have an x-acto knife handy. I did each stripe one at a time cause I could never get them all to come off as a group.

STORMTROOPER BOOTS
TrooperTim replied to RogueTrooper's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Style: Woodstock Jodhpur Size: Size 44 UK, I wear size 10 shoes They're a perfect fit. No need for insoles, they're padded well. I did have insoles in them at first but took them out because it raised my feet slightly and cramped my toes. Cost: Boots $50 - Color Preparer $5 - Nulife Spray (2 cans) $15 = Total $70 Dye Process: Take it to a professional to dye it unless you know what you're doing. Personally, I think the quality of the end result depends on the dye or spray you use. Initially I tried leather dye. Didn't work, in part because I didn't use a preparer and because I sanded the leather. Don't sand the leather. For the second try I used a leather preparer with Nulife spray. Fantastic results. Had to apply a few coats before it became completely white. I didn't spray a finishing sheen on them to help minimize the wear, which I should have and will be doing soon. So the process is... color preparer - nulife spray - finishing sheen/waterproofer - white shoe cream as needed. U Shaped Elastic: Used white fabric paint to make that part white. So far so good, no flaking. Durability: The boots themselves are made very well. After a couple outings the dye/paint has rubbed off/scuffed and on the bad boot (my failed first attempt) started to crack. Doesn't look too bad but it needs frequent touch ups to look prestine. Although, it's nice to have that worn "screen accurate" look. Purchase Again?: I would consider buying another set of jodhpur boots and dye them again now that I know what I'm doing, but I'm probably going to get a pair of TK Boots and keep my jodhpur for the worn look. ----------- -

TIP: A better way to fix butt pllates
TrooperTim replied to MiDri's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
I had this problem with the butt as well and I did the same thing; used velcro there. My belt is also positioned to where it covers the butt corners. Helps to keep it contained. If those tabs work, go for it. -
Do you run fans? No, but will soon If yes to fans, how many? Two, planning on Which Hovi do you use? Stomper's Regular Hovi Mic Tips? Yes, I'm assuming Hovi with the mini speakers built in? Yes Is your Brow and neck trim accurate? Yes on brow - No on neck I hand painted everything but the tube stripes, those were decals.

Building it should be tons of fun. I dig a good build thread. Not too knowledgeable on AM, but looks like a good kit. Good luck!

How do you survive a convention without pockets?
TrooperTim replied to SapaWanmdi's topic in Off Topic
You don't need to carry much. Get a neck wallet or modify you drop boxes. I'd say focus on building your armor at the moment, cause that's the main thing... and most fun part. Have a buddy be your eyes and ears. Have them carry your stuff. -
Man, hope I can get to this. Better start saving up. Will get my 501st application in next week so I'll be good to go. Fun on a bun.

I printed out reference images also. Research pays off big. Have fun dude! We all like to see progress pics.

HIGHLY recommend white Nu-Life spray. Use the color preparer before you apply it.
