Knockerbot large AP build
Knockerbot replied to Knockerbot's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
2/3rds finished my blaster updates and painting. This is the scope and finishing the painting on the blaster. The counter still needs to be rebuilt and the glass from a monocular added to the scope. I painted the scope copper since I couldn't find a brass. Sorry no paint process pics. Also you need to watch out to cut straight if you do hack up your scope like this and use high grit paper on your dremal or else you'll make some marks that just can't be fixed. See, don't spin the piece while using the hack saw. this will happen. I gut it using some forsner bits and small drill bits. This seems to be a doopys recast and is full of air pickets to explode as you go. Then I put it back together using some epoxy putty and sanded with TOO low of a grit and accidentally dug in. Ended up looking like extra dents and wear but I'm not impressed with myself on that one Now we jump to fully painted. I did a white primer, then the copper, and then the black. I used a little 400 grit sandpaper on the edges and a few spots in the middle. I then sealed it with acrylic matte finish. Then I finally painted the E-11 black and used 400 grit paper and an exacto knife to damage the edges. Good part of the matte finish. It covers up small sandngin marks and makes them look like chips. -

Yeah the price on Amazon Canada is around 100 CDN. I tried to order the cheap ones from the US site but it wouldnt let me. There's a site called shoeme I believe that has them for 109 cdn with shipping after a sale discount of 20% so that's the best I think. -

Shipping to Canada is $30 USD or so.

You're right though, the elastic is putting me off these ones. The loop can always be added so I'm not worried about it not being there. The Bass Amsterdams that a lot of guys here buy and paint are $100 CDN on Amazon Canada and I hear the quality on those is proven to be good.

Thank you for the second set of eyes -

Actually looking at ANH reference photos the toes on these ones seem to fit the style that were screen used. I was a little worried they were too flat and pointy. Now I'm wondering about the elastics, they look a tiny bit wide. I wish I had them in hand so I could know for sure the look of them. Edit: Side stitching is too far off, the search continues. May just go with Bass. -
I'm going to be stripping, painting, and scuffing them. They don't have the front loop (CRL doesn't actually say that's needed) and look slightly different that the ones in the CRL but it seems to fit in what they state. I really like the look of them and I refuse to pay the $120 USD Imperial Boots wants when I can get comparable boots for $90 CDN or less with shipping included that will actually ship quickly. Opinions? ----------

Also I'm going to make mounts of 2mm ABS when I can. Put some spacers on them so the one side of blowers can breath then paint the brackets red. Also need to make some sort of weights that make each side of the fans weight exactly half of the battery pack and the project box. Think a small pipe with nuts and cotton balls inside to keep them quite. -

Time for the fans to get built. Got here from Hong Kong last Friday and I've been dying to build. I changed my plans to include a project box, switch, and fuse at the last minute. It was going to be a straight up fan to power supply set up but that's just boring I started by measuring around my head from middle of my jaw to middle of my jaw on the other side and adding a few inches to compensate for the helmet. I'm not too worried about it not being prefect because it will take just a few minutes it I need to lengthen or shorten the wires. Each side right now is 13 inches middle to end. 5 fans so one spare, none were DOA so that's a great start. Testing and proof of concept. Never wired before so I was working a little blind but I've had help from a few great guys on here and IRL. Gutted a broken battery box for the project box. I'm a little mad that this is broken. Unlike the fans it was DOA. Did anyone else know you needed 4 hands to solder a USB male connector? Yeah I didn't know until I was doing it. lol So I missed taking photos of the process of actually wiring the fans but that's simple as all hell. Connect all the positives to the positives and the negatives to the negatives. Then wire the positive in and out of the switch from the USB you made and bam it works Only burned myself 5 times today **What isn't there** The fuse isn't there because I didn't go to princess auto to buy the holder today but I didn't solder the negatives under the cap so it'll be quick to get it in there. -

That's best if you're confused at all. No need to buy things twice it'll be a short list though. Bunch of small nitpicky things mostly. Like the lenses needing to be darker so you need new lenses kind of thing but also like boots, blaster, undersuit, neck seal, audio equipment, big stuff like that. -

So when I started his kits weren't as full as they are now, he just changed them and actually now a lot of that stuff is coming from Mark.

The paints are because I want to instantly aim for centurion and I want paint not decals for my helmet, same with the s trim. The one that AP sends isn't good enough for centurion unless he's changed that too. He made huge leaps the past few weeks.

The garter is to hold the thighs up. Super simple to make and I can walk you through it myself if you need or you can order it on here from the sales page from another person.

If you're going this route with AP make sure Mark know you want everything he has. -

I am rebuilding the counter and scope so I haven't started those yet I'm thinking of gutting the scope this week. I don't have the lenses yet but I know the sizes and I want something else to do. I'm just going to slice it in 3 and use some small forsner bits to empty it out. I also may try to turn a piece of acrylic on my lath to the size needed for the window of the counter and then sand off three sides to make it square leaving one side rounded. Won't be hard to do if I can find a good piece of acrylic. -

I was going to do more finishing on my E-11 but I got most of what I cared about so I'm getting onto painting. I realized I'm too much of a stickler to buy premade so I'll be building my own E-11s from here on out. I also got my replacement mic tips in the mail so I decided to paint them too after forming the screens over a highlighter and pushing them up and in from the back using a dental pick. Used to work in a truck plant in paint. Overkill but I don't like spray painting without it. They aren't fully built there. I do have the centre pieces as well. There's a tiny crack in the left one that I didn't see until paint was on it. -

Also what is the best type of paint for a blaster? I see a lot of guys using Krylon spraypaint. Is it that simple or should I use model paint with an airbrush?
