  1. I'll post some additional pics after I finish more paint touchups!
  2. Still not 100% happy with my paint job, but I was in a hurry to get this finished/troopable by this coming weekend for the Run Disney Star Wars race troops! The kit goes together so easily, very nice!
  3. Thanks Tony! Could not have done this build without the excellent reference that was your build thread!
  4. Awesome, emailed him. Thanks for the tip!
  5. Thanks! I see a lot of the originals are canvas, does someone make leather ones?
  6. Are the MP40 pouches seen in the movie the same as the original sandroopers used? What's the best place to get some, if so?
  7. I would stick with Krylon if that worked well for you on the armor. I'm doing semi gloss black and glossy white. Clear coat on top (matching semi gloss and gloss)
  8. I guess I should update this build thread too! I don’t use my laptop as much, so it’s rough posting photos here. Here’s the super abbreviated version of my build, since it’s already done! If you want to see more detailed pics of anything, let me know. There was much bondoing, sanding, and tears: But it turned out nicely: Primer and paint: Epic painting failures included repainting the chest at least 3 times. It was a learning experience: It’s not all bad: Ab box attachments: Belt assembly: Inside the chest looks gross after all the mods and tape/fabric/velcro: I attached the shoulders to the back/yoke like so: I really couldn’t stand the rubber gaskets that came with the kit, so after several tries my wife and I came up with this set of gaskets using headliner and some super shiny/stretchy fabric we found at Jo-Ann: The back has two 2” strips of elastic sewn in, so you just put on the arms one at a time like a coat: Ready to try on for real now: And then, trooping!
  9. We should start calling them T5H-11Ds and T5H-44Cs They're so awesome, thanks so much for your efforts!
  10. Paint prep / testing. Everything got a coat of primer so I could see how it looked. Most of it was ready to go, but I did do some additional filling on the back of the grip and some other small areas. Then I put down some base paint coats, mostly black (which I really didn’t need to on a few pieces since they are mostly white). I started with a flat black, but will eventually put down a semi-gloss black. I’m using Tamiya paints with my airbrush, which is still somewhat new to me but I like the results so far. You’ll see some SE-44C parts in the mix, since I’m painting both at once. Scope masked, painting silver: Unmasked scope: More parts: Adding some white layers: Scope masked again for white this time: Unmasked scope: Main body masked: Unmasked with scope and end cap loosely fit: And here’s my current status, while I am waiting for some more glossy white to arrive: Eventually I'll paint over the black areas again with semi gloss. For the first go at this build, I'm trying to avoid the temptation to add in LEDs and the front flashlight.. but I think later I'll come back to add those.
  11. Here we go, my Phoenix Props / T5H build! First impressions out of the box are that the parts are extremely clean, there are only a few pour spouts to cut off and a small number of bubble areas to fill in. Parts before cleanup: Handle End Cap: Trigger: Charging thingy: Power cell thingy: Main Body, end cap to be cut down and area under the rail to be cleaned out: Underside: Grip: Everything roughly cleaned up:
  12. The first trooper Rey shoots at Maz's place has no TD
  13. TR8R on the ground, seems like a black stripe on the TD?
  14. How are you attaching the forearms, biceps, shins? They stay put without any Velcro?
  15. The yoke is the first thing I thought of as well, the rest is probably fine?
  16. I remember some of the troopers having the black stripe on their TD also. Not all of them, but some. For what it's worth, here's a photo of the Disney FO TKs walking around the park, they have the black stripe on their TD.
  17. Or even just run Windows on a MacBook Air? I don't know much about the current state of PCs, but I know apple hardware is really great
  18. Have you considered an iPad Pro with the pencil? I know you said non Mac, but I've read good things about the new pencil vs Wacom tablets
  19. Something about stormtroopers and accuracy...
  20. Updates from today! So I decided to go ahead and do the chest greeblie, cutting this out was painful. I used zap-a-gap to fill in the gaps, now I’m working on sanding and bondoing.. TD assembly I trimmed this part incorrectly at first.. Should be more like this Better! Forearm boxes Shin boxes Thigh holster part Getting more assembled parts in my armor bin, getting closer!
  21. I haven't started on the gaskets yet, but I guess it's inevitable soon enough More progress pics coming after I get back home
  22. Plugging along.. trying some pieces on for fun! The large pieces are assembled, minus the TD and all the many little boxes.
